Indianapolis has signed free agent defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin and is bringing back offensive guard Joe Reitz.

The Colts made the announcements Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin, who is 6-foot-1, 315 pounds, is a 10-year veteran who played most recently with San Diego last year. He made nine starts for the Chargers and finished with 23 tackles. He was originally drafted by Baltimore in 2003, has four career sacks and is the eighth free agent Indy has signed from another team.

Reitz started eight games at guard for Indy last season and was an exclusive rights free agent. The Colts said he signed his tender Wednesday.

Chargers Open To Re-Signing NT Aubrayo Franklin

The Chargers have expressed interest in re-signing veteran nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin, a league source said Monday. Where contract negotiations stand is not known, but Franklin will become an unrestricted free agent if no deal is signed before Tuesday at 1 p.m. PT.

Franklin, 32, spent 2011 in the Saints' 4-3 scheme.

The style didn't play to the run stopper's strengths, and he looked more comfortable absorbing double teams under Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano's 3-4 system.

Franklin started nine of 12 games, finishing with 20 tackles.

Chargers lose two more players to injuries

Defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin and safety Brandon Taylor joined a long list of San Diego players on injured reserve Wednesday. Franklin has missed three of the Chargers' past six games because of a knee injury. He started eight of the team's first nine games this season. Taylor, a rookie, suffered a knee injury in his first career start last Sunday in the win over the New York Jets. The Chargers now have have 17 players on injured reserve. Assigned to the active roster from the practice squad were rookie safety Sean Cattouse and rookie cornerback Greg Gatson for the final regular-season game Sunday against Oakland. The Chargers also added rookie cornerback Arthur Hobbs and rookie tight end Anthony Miller to the practice squad after losing fullback Jamie McCoy, who was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' active roster.

A Thanksgiving Day practice gave the Chargers reason to be thankful

It was hardly all good news, though.

Chargers NT Aubrayo Franklin Expected To Miss Multiple Games

The Chargers may be without their starting nose tackle for a while.
Aubrayo Franklin (knee) suffered a bone bruise late in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. He is "probably going to be out for a couple weeks," coach Norv Turner said Monday afternoon, adding he is still being evaluated.
Franklin, 32, signed a one-year contract with San Diego before training camp, making the switch back to a 3-4 scheme after spending a season in New Orleans' 4-3.
Nose tackle has proven a better fit for the 6-foot-1, 315-pound run stopper, who's been a cog to a Chargers defense that ranks second in the NFL with 82.9 rushing yards allowed a game and tied for second with 3.6 yards allowed per carry. Source: San Diego Union Tribune Attached Thumbnails

Chargers sign Jackie Battle, Aubrayo Franklin

The Chargers signed two of the biggest name remaining free agents out there this week and, while they won’t have big impacts, as is the case with almost anyone available in July, they will see some playing time. Franklin’s signing allowed the Chargers to cut Luis Castillo, an oft injured player. Franklin will pair with potential breakout star Cam Thomas at nose tackle, allowing the veteran Antonio Garay to play more defensive end, Castillo’s old position. Garay will rotate some with Vaughn Martin, Corey Liuget, and 2nd round rookie Kendall Reyes at defensive end, and also play some nose tackle. Thomas will see the bulk of the snaps at nose tackle, while Franklin, two years removed from being San Francisco’s franchise player, will see limited snaps.
At the other hand, Battle will provide some more depth behind clear feature back Ryan Mathews. Battle will likely be the 3rd back behind Mathews, another breakout candidate, and veteran Ronnie Brown, who was terrible in Philadelphia last ...

Jackie Battle / Aubrayo Franklin agree to one-year deals

The Chargers have reached one year agreements with free agents Jackie Battle (RB) and Aubrayo Franklin (DT).

Jackie Battle spent his 2011 season with division rival Kansas City Chiefs. after recording 597 yards with two touchdowns in 149 carries in a breakout season for Battle. Due to injuries, the undrafted free agent was asked to contribute and so he did. Battle is a 6-2 238 lbs back that will be a big presence on third down and special teams. He will also add depth to the run game should they have injury problems further into the season.

Aubrayo Franklin comes off somewhat of an off year with the New Orleans Saints, starting 9 games and recording just 17 tackles. Franklin will look to find a new beginning in San Diego. With so much talent on the Chargers line already, Franklin won't be looked at to do too much and make more specialized contributions. Franklin is entering his 11th year with the Chargers, he is a whoping 6-1 317 lbs. He has recorded 204 career tackles an...

Chargers sign DT Franklin

Defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin signed a one-year deal with the Chargers, who continue to tinker with their defensive line after releasing Luis Castillo on Thursday. A 10-year veteran who has excelled as a run-blocker primarily in 3-4 schemes, Franklin spent last season with the Saints and started nine games. Franklin was a fifth-round pick by Baltimore in 2003 and spent four seasons with the Ravens before signing with the 49ers. Franklin was one of the few remaining unsigned big names on the market, which didn't produce many large contracts for interior defenders this offseason. A deep group of interior defensive linemen in the draft also helped fill the needs of many teams. "(The market) just hasn't been there at all," Franklin told The Sports Xchange's Len Pasquarelli back in April. "The reason? I don't know, honestly. ... But it's definitely slow." It took him another three months to find work with San Diego. He started 60 game...

Falcons Host DT Aubrayo Franklin

Free agent defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin is visiting the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports. Franklin, 31, has 204 tackles, four sacks and an interception during his 114-game career with the Baltimore Ravens (2003-06), San Francisco 49ers (2007-10) and New Orleans Saints, where he started nine of 16 games last season. Jonathan Babineaux and Corey Peters are entrenched as the Falcons' starting defensive tackles, with 2009 first round pick Peria Jerry and restricted free agent Vance Walker backing them up. Should Franklin join the Falcons, he'd be reunited with Mike Nolan, who was the Ravens' defensive coordinator in 2003-04 and the 49ers head coach from 2005-08. Nolan became the Falcons defensive coordinator on January 17. Source: Mac's Football Blog Attached Thumbnails

Aubrayo Franklin visiting Seattle Tuesday

First reported on twitter by both ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network is the latest FREE AGENT visit into the VMAC facility (home of the Seahawks.

Free-agent defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin is visiting the team today.

Franklin made 17 tackles in 16 games for the Saints last season. He had spent the previous four seasons with the 49ers, who named him their franchise player in 2010. From 2007-2010, Franklin averaged more than 36 tackles and made 60 starts.

At 31, Franklin hasn't missed a game since 2007.

	Quote:

Bill Williamson - Espn's AFC west blogger recently wrote that Franklin is a solid 3-4 nose tackle who can be a solid rotational player.

He was reporting on the Chiefs interest in Franklin at the time. Maybe this is a leverage visit for him? One only knows. Not sure with the addition of Jason Jones if a Franklin signing makes sense for Seattle?!

Saints Free Agent DT Aubrayo Franklin Drawing Interest From Chiefs

Bill Williamson of ESPN reports, that the Chiefs are showing interest in former New Orleans Saints DT Aubrayo Franklin. Having a player that can rotate into the line up such as Franklin would be an upgrade to a defense that ranked 26th against the run last season. However, Franklin only played in 296 snaps last season which could cause some concern of how effective he will be since he is going to turn 32 in August. The Chiefs are have been actively looking to replace the aging DT Kelly Gregg who did little to help the Chiefs defense last season. The addition of Franklin along with another player would certainly sure up the NT position in the Chiefs defense. Source: NFL Trade Rumors Attached Thumbnails
