Knicks looking to add back-up for Amar'e Stoudemire, maybe Birdman?

Shawne Williams wanted to play in New York next season. The Knicks don't appear to want him though. While he's been able to step out and stretch defenses some from his post playing position in the NBA, New York is looking for more of a traditional big to bring off the bench in support of Stoudemire.

Traditional in the sense that those bigs are looking to bang, rebound, and defend the basket first. According to ESPNNewYork, that list includes the following:

The top candidates are Kenyon Martin and Louis Amundson, but both players want at least the mini mid-level exception of $3 million or higher. Martin played with the Clippers last season, but he will not be back because the team has 15 guys on contract, and they would have to dip into the luxury tax to sign him.

Other fours likely on the Knicks' radar include D.J. White, Chris Andersen, who played with Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith in Denver, and Jordan Williams, who played for the Nets last ...

Breaking Down the Atlanta Hakws’ Off-Season/Summer

Breaking Down the Atlanta Hawks Off-Season

Added: Kyle Korver, Lou Williams, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow, Devin Harris, Jordan Williams, DeShawn Stevenson
Lost: Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Vladimir Radmanovic, Jason Collins, Kirk Hinrich, Jerry Stackhouse
Draft: John Jenkins (SG, Vanderbilt, 1st Round 23rd Overall), Mike Scott (PF, Virginia, 2nd Round 43rd Overall)
Free Agency Analysis: On paper, the Hawks lost more talent then they brought in, but that does not change the fact that they had an absolutely brilliant off-season. Bringing in new GM Danny Ferry may have been the best move, as within just a few weeks, he completely changed the Hawks roster. For starters he traded the worst contract in the NBA, Joe Johnson’s 4 year and 90 million dollar deal, which was previously believed impossible. Even though they ended up with scraps, Ferry gave the team the opportunity to be able to rebuild. He also traded two years of overpaying Marvin Williams for one year of overpaying Devin H...

Williams, who has played his entire seven-year career with Philadelphia, grew up 25 miles northeast of Atlanta in Snellville, Ga.

Financial terms of Williams' deal were not announced by the Hawks.

Williams, 25, has career averages of 11.3 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in 455 games.

Atlanta's busy offseason has included trading Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams and acquiring guards Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar and DeShawn Stevenson and forwards Jordan Williams and Johan Petro.

Williams led the Sixers in scoring last season with a career-best 14.9 average as the sixth man.

The Hawks were waiting for the NBA to approve the signing before they announced the trade.

D-Will Likely to Sign with Reloaded Nets

A decision on where Deron Williams will sign could come as early as today.
Unrestricted free agent Deron Williams more than likely will sign with the Brooklyn Nets after they retool by resigning swingman Gerald Wallace and acquiring Atlanta Hawk forward Joe Johnson. Williams, who has narrowed his choices down to the Nets and the Dallas Mavericks, is said to be making his decision as to where he will sign in the coming days, possibly as early as this afternoon.
The Nets are likely Williams’ top choice because they have been relentless in composing a strong roster for the upcoming season. Management has committed to building a championship roster and has shown this in this week’s trades and acquisitions.
The Brooklyn Nets first reached a verbal agreement with Wallace, who played for the team most of last season. After the season was over, Wallace opted out of his $9.5 million contract that he was to earn next season in order to test free agency. According to sources close to the ...

Report: Joe Johnson Dealt to Brooklyn Nets in Hopes of Joining Forces With Deron Williams

The Brooklyn Nets may be taking an alternate approach to the Dwight Howard sweepstakes. On Monday, the Nets agreed in principle to a trade with the Atlanta Hawks to acquire guard Joe Johnson, according to ESPN. In return, the Hawks will receive a bevy of expiring contracts and role players as well as a future first-round pick. The deal, as it was arranged of Monday afternoon, would send the expiring deals of Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams along with Deshawn Stevenson and a first-round draft pick (lottery protected in 2013 via Houston) to Atlanta. The current...

Brooklyn Nets #1 off-season priority; re-sign Deron Williams

The New Jersey Nets… err… Brooklyn Nets will have a new home next season, moving across the Hudson River to their new home at the Barclays Center. As the franchise enters a new era, they have plenty of question marks regarding their roster. Priority number one this off-season for the Nets will be re-signing their star point guard, Deron Williams.

Brooklyn Nets (22-44 last year)
2011-12 Season Summary:
The New Jersey Nets once again struggled this past season to become a relevant team in the Eastern Conference. When they landed Deron Williams last season via trade, the franchise thought that they finally landed their bonafide superstar to lead them to the next level. Williams was still missing a running mate though and rumors were rampant about the Nets trying to acquire Dwight Howard to pair with Williams. That never happened though and Williams was unable to single-handedly lead New Jersey to the postseason.
With the dream of landing Howard evaporating, the Nets instead acqu...

Williams' double-double leads Nets over Wizards

Deron Williams had 19 points and 13 assists in fighting off the lingering effects of the flu, leading the New Jersey Nets to a 110-98 victory over the fading Washington Wizards on Friday night.

Gerald Wallace added 19 points and reserve Anthony Morrow had 17 as the Nets (20-37) won for the fourth time in six games to keep their microscopic playoff hopes alive with nine games left in the season.

Before the game, the Nets said starting center Brook Lopez would be sidelined for the rest of the season because of injuries to his right foot and ankle. He played in five games.

John Wall had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Wizards (12-44), who have dropped five straight and 10 of 11.

Kris Humphries added eight points and 12 rebounds, and rookie Jordan Williams scored 14 points.

Kevin Seraphin had 15 points and nine rebounds for Washington, whose futility showed when Chris Singleton missed a breakaway dunk early in the second half.

The Nets never trailed. They built a 15-point lead in the first

Deron Williams leads depleted Nets over Pacers

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Deron Williams had 30 points and nine assists and injury-ravaged New Jersey beat the Indiana Pacers 100-84 Wednesday night in a game the Nets finished with eight healthy players.

Rookie MarShon Brooks added 17 points and Gerald Green had 14 as the woeful Nets won for the second time in eight games and handed the Pacers their second loss in six. The 16-point margin of victory was the largest of the season for New Jersey (17-35).

The Nets started the game with only 10 healthy players and lost starting center Shelden Williams with an injury to his right eye in the second quarter and backup center Jordan Williams with concussion-type symptoms in the third.

Paul George had 22 points to lead Indiana.

The Nets, who have been notorious for giving away games in the fourth quarter, instead expanded their lead in the final 12 minutes, turning a two-point lead into a 21-point advantage.

Deron Williams had 13 points in the fourth quarter and the Nets hit 9 of their first 14 shots in the period. G
