Boston Celtics, Maine Red Claws enter hybrid affiliation

The Boston Celtics today announced a hybrid affiliation with the D-League’s Maine Red Claws, a nice step toward maximizing the D-League’s impact. From WEEI, a brief rundown of hybrid affiliations:This partnership, also referred to as a “hybrid affiliation,” is the fifth of its kind in the NBA D-League. It allows for NBA teams to secure control of and cover the expenses related to the basketball operations of an NBA D-League team while partnering with existing local ownership, which maintains responsibility for the team’s off-the-court business operations.During the past season I spent some time covering the Springfield Armor, who have a hybrid affiliation with the New Jersey Nets. The Nets hired Springfield’s head coach. They appointed its general manager. They controlled everything on the basketball side of operations, made decisions on which players to keep, which players to trade, etc. When the Nets held training camp, the Armor coaching staff were involved in the meetings and fo...

The New Jersey Nets have signed guard Armon Johnson to a 10-day contract.

Nets general manager Billy King announced the signing Monday, a day after the team did not renew a 10-day contract for forward Dennis Horner.

Jerry Smith Called Up By The Nets

Former Cardinal Jerry Smith finally received the call he had been waiting for. Smith was called up from the NBDL by the New Jersey Nets following a 2-for-1 trade that opened up a roster spot.
Smith is averaging 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 32 games for the Springfield Armor. He was named D-League Player of the Month for February and Player of the Week for the first week of that month. In February, he led Springfield to a perfect 8-0 record, averaging 22.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists. He was chosen to the D-League All-Star Team.
Jerry is the fifth D-Leaguer called up by the Nets this year, following Dennis Horner, Larry Owens, Andre Emmett and Gerald Green. Since Green has been called-up, Smith has been regarded as the NBDL’s top prospect.

The Nets shot 50 percent from the floor, 37 percent from 3-point range, 87 percent from the free throw line and had a 44-24 advantage in rebounding.

For the first time in five home games, the Nets didn't fall behind early. In fact, they

Game 3 Nets @ Magic 29.12

Everyone keeps saying that after the Magic beat the Nets last night, Dwight’s chances to join the Brooklyn squad have slimmed down. I actually don’t think that’s the case. Not by a long shot. What you could see last night in Dwight Howard was sheer determination. Even if he was slim on points, he ripped through 24 boards, even made a fantastic save that led to Reddick’s 3.
The Magic were clearly the dominant presence last night, and not even our man from Providence (now also known as KobeShon Broverson) could hold them at bay, although it was by his effort that the Nets came back to a 3 point difference.
I’m not even going to pretend that I cared about a win. Everything was about Howard, as I tried to picture the jerseys overlapping, and him blocking Ryan Anderson instead of Damion James. He and Williams have had dinner together most of the times that D-Will was in Orlando, and, according to Howard, they’ve been “friends since the Olympics”. Also –and I may be both biased and wrong here- I
