Pats shaking things up after embarassing loss

Doug Gabriel out, defensive back Justin Phinisee and safety Guss Scott in. I guess when you lose to the lowly Dolphins, something's gotta give.

Here's hoping we don't have a repeat performance this week against another weak footballl team, the Houstan Texans.

With the division pretty much locked up, wins now equal more home games come playoff time. Here's to seeing a fourth title in six years come to New England. Keep the faith!!!

Patriots Sign Jabar Gaffney

Big News? Not really, unless you're a team that was only carrying three receivers. New England might have the worst receiving corps in the history of the NFL. Gaffney will fight for time over an aging Troy Brown and castoffs Doug Gabriel and Reche Caldwell. None of those three WR are on pace to finish the season with over 600 yards. Currently the team's leading receiver is TE Ben Watson.

The Patriots also tried out Charles Rogers and Kevin Johnson, but decided to go with the 25 year old Gaffney. Gross.

The Patriots are going to have trouble against teams that can defend against the run.

Patriots Add Receiver

As receiver Deion Branch continues his holdout, the Patriots decided to find another receiver. They picked up Doug Gabriel from the Raiders for a fifth round draft choice. The 26-year old has 71 career catches for 1,122 yards and five touchdowns. Gabriel should help the Patriots outside passing game. This move should make the Patriots more willing to trade Branch, who has received offers from the Seahawks and Jets.

Pats acquire Gabriel from Raiders

With the Deion Branch situation seemingly not coming to a resolution any time in the near future, the New England Patriots acquired wide receiver Doug Gabriel from the Oakland Raiders today for an undisclosed draft pick. As of now, Gabriel looks to be the top WR on the New England roster.

This move has a ton of fantasy fallout. First, Gabriel's value increases exponentially. The first week or two may not produce tremendous results, but once Gabriel learns the system, being Tom Brady's number one receiver is never a bad thing. Second, owners must now be wary of Deion Branch if he's not traded by the time your drafts are held. He has already stated that he will sit out till week 10 if needed, and neither he nor the organization appear to be ready to be the amicable half of the negotiations. Even if he is dealt to the Seahawks, he will be competing for balls with Darrell Jackson, Nate Burleson and Bobby Engram. On the Raiders side of things, both Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry are on the fantasy radar again. Porter figures to be the early favorite to start opposite Randy Moss, a position that typically carries significant fantasy value. Keep an eye on this situation.

Pats Acquire WR Gabriel from Raiders

Very interesting. He was a starter last year, and probably still has some upside. Seems more and more likely that Branch is on his way out...
