Chris Lofton: The Soul of a Legend

After his performance on the court over the past 4 years, I hardly needed anything to make me consider Chris Lofton to be one of the great players to wear the orange and white. however, now he has entered the realm of legend...

Tennessee Stud had Cancer

It was discoverd in 2007 during the NCAA tournament that Chris Lofton, Senior Guard(then Junior) from Tennesse was diagnosised with Testicular Cancer. But the way he found out, was the hard part. After taking a drug test and failing it he was told by the doctor that he has a tumor that may be cancerous. Coach Bruce Pearl was on the Jim Rome Is Burning Radio Show today talking about this with Jim. He said they looked at the Lance Armstrong story and said that Chris just wasn't ready for that kind of pressure. Chris Lofton did have the cancerous tumor removed, just less than one week after the season-ending loss to Ohio State in 2007. To have played with this illness and still have the Senior seson Chris had is remarkable. Chris is projected to be drafted into the NBA in the incoming draft. Let's just hope that the cancer stays away.

Chris Lofton

Today it was reported that Chris Lofton, a point guard for the Tennessee Volunteers, had a testicular cancer scare before this last season. I don't know the whole story so I'm not going to act like I know what I'm talking about but this is a great story. Lofton and his coach, Bruce Pearl, decided that they would wait until after the season to reveal that this happened. Apparently Lofton was not ready to deal with the issue like Lance Armstrong did, and that's to be expected. Lofton and Pearl made the right decision, especially since he plays in a game where the crowds of other home teams will ridicule you for anything, no matter how serious the situation. This is definitely a testement to how hard Lofton works and how tough he really is. Nobody knows what kind of pro he's going to be, but I can confidentally say that this will definitely help his draft status. Every team could use a player like Lofton. He's a tough kid who plays with all of his heart every night. Kudos to Chris Lofton. This is a great story.

Former Tennessee guard fails drug test, finds out he has a tumor

Former Tennessee guard Chris Lofton failed a drug test during the 2007 NCAA Tournament. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The test revealed that he had a tumor and he underwent testicular cancer treatment, having surgery in March 2007 and radiation surgery for four weeks in May. He is now cancer-free. The information was kept private during the 2007-08 college basketball season.

1st team AP All-America's lacking a senior for first time in history

This is a season of firsts for the world of college basketball. The Final Four includes all four #1 seeds for the first time ever, and now today with the announcement of the AP's 1st Team All Americans another record has been broken. For the first time ever, ZERO seniors made the first team. Instead, the 1st team was headed by two unanimous picks in UNC's Tyler Hansbrough (junior) and KSU's Michael Beasley (freshman), and followed by Texas' DJ Augustin (sophomore), Memphis' Chris Douglas-Roberts (junior), and UCLA's Kevin Love (freshman). The preseason All-America team was comprised of Hansbrough, Georgetown's Roy Hibbert, Michigan State's Drew Neitzel, Tennessee's Chris Lofton, UCLA's Darren Collison. Hibbert was on the second team, while Lofton and Collison were part of the 3rd team.

BasketVols: The Joy of Disappointment

In the end, a win by Tennessee against Louisville would have helped the BasketVols take one more step forward, but the loss isn't a step backward. Coach Pearl summed it up best when he recounted what he told the players after the game: "Tonight could have added to this season, but in no way did it didn't detract from it."

Sports Illustrated's regional covers leave out North Carolina!

That's ok though, because it's like the Madden jinx to be placed on something like this. The regional covers include Georgetown's DaJuan Summers, Connecticut's Jeff Adrien, Xavier's Drew Lavender, Tennessee's Chris Lofton, Kansas's Brandon Rush and UCLA's Kevin Love. Luckily I guess, Carolina and Tyler Hansbrough were left off of this list, maybe SI is making them their pick for the Tourney victory!

Whew! The BasketVols Somehow Hang on to Beat the Gamecocks

Chris Lofton hit a 3-point basket with 12 seconds remaining in the game to barely defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks 87-89 in the quarterfinals of the SEC Basketball Tournament this afternoon at the Georgia Dome. The Vols were sluggish throughout the game, despite the fact that four Vols scored in double figures.

The BasketVols capped off a truly amazing regular season with a resounding 89 - 56 victory against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Chris Lofton led Tennessee with 28 points as he and fellow seniors JaJuan Smith and Jordan Howell said farewell to Thompson-Boling Arena. After the game, the team cut down the nets used for the entirety of the 2007 - 08 season, and raised the 2008 SEC Champions Banner...

When you are an 18 or 19 year-old college student, you don't have a lot of "pull" in the world, you don't have a lot of money, you don't have the ability to bring huge resources to the table.

#18 Vandy Upends #1 Vols

Well it was fun while it lasted. The day after Tennessee celebrated its first #1 ranking in school history, Bruce Pearl's squad was beat by another in state rival, Vanderbilt. Does this loss put the Vols on the outside looking in for a #1 seed?

Bruce Pearl Scares Erin Andrews

At halftime of last night's Tennessee-Memphis thriller, Vols coach Bruce Pearl did his closest Joe Willie impersonation on reporter Erin Andrews. You got to give Pearl credit for seeing his opportunity and jumping all over it....literally.

Tennessee beats Memphis: Bruce Pearl is quite the ladies man [Video]

In what was a very good game tonight, #2 Tennessee beat #1 Memphis on the road tonight in a close 66-62 game. Chris Lofton played pretty bad the whole night going 2-11 from the floor but he hit 2 field goals with 2 seconds to go to put the game away.

Bruce Pearl being the go getter that he is, took the opportunity of being on the big stage to feel up Erin Andrews. I can't blame him, I probably would've done the same thing. I feel sorry for her though because Bruce was sweating so much that he looked like a glazed donut.

Beware of Gold Teeth…

Once during the class the professor asked everyone in the room to identify some stereotypes that society often makes, and people who defy those stereotypes. CJ Black responded by yelling at the top of his lungs: "Everybody from Memphis got gold teeth! And it's the truth!!!"
