111-Day New York Jets Warning – Underrated Jeremy Kerley

Here at Turn On The Jets, we decided to take a page out of Robert Mays book over at Grantland (a polite way of saying rip his article idea off) by counting down the 115 days until the New York Jets kick off, with a daily reason to get excited about their return. Mays has the whole NFL to work with, we only have the Goddamn Jets…now there is a challenge, step your game up Mays!
We continue today with underrated Jeremy Kerley (Note, you can track this entire series right here)

Despite the festering sewage hole that was the New York Jets offense in 2012, wide receiver Jeremy Kerley managed to have an impressive season. 56 receptions for 827 yards and 2 touchdowns may not turn heads at first glance but to have those numbers with the worst quarterback situation in the NFL, no supporting wide receivers or tight ends and a mediocre running game? Those numbers speak to how talented Kerley is and how he should never, ever be clumsily clumped together with the Jets wide receiver mess last s...

WR Hill will breakout in 2013

The Jets have a lot of young, talented players. They could all have good '13 season, but there is one player in particular that I think will have a breakout season and that's Stephen Hill.

Hill hails from Georgia Tech, where their offensive scheme was an option offense. If you aren't familiar with an option offense, it is basically a team running the football as much as possible with 3 or 4 players and there is very little passing. So, if you aren't the quarterback or a running back then you don't get the ball.

Hill had just 49 receptions for his college career---that number is very low! Most starting receivers get that or more in 1 season. The lack of touches has resulted in receiving skills that appeared to be lackluster, coming into the league.

His physical attributes are what give me hope. Hill is a stunning athlete with great speed, size, and can jump out of the building. He needs to work on route running and catching the ball. He had some dropp...

Stephen Hill explains last year’s struggles

Stephen Hill believes he had a hard time learning the game last year (Credit: AP Photo)
After a fast start to the 2012 NFL season, one in which Stephen Hill had two touchdowns and 89 yards on five receptions, the rest of his rookie season was a disappointment. Hill finished the year with just 21 receptions for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also only played eleven games during his rookie campaign and had zero receptions in five of those games.
While the lack of a quarterback could explain Hill’s struggles, he believes he was having a hard time learning the game, while dealing with nagging injuries and the constant New York media.
“It’s not hard, it’s just annoying,” Hill said. “We’re always on ESPN for something, and it was just a lot. It put pressure on learning, and then having to explain if I messed up, so that’s where most of the pressure was. It probably did throw me off during games, you’re just out there running. That’s what it felt like. I was out there running but I didn’t und

Turn On The Jets Film Room – Stephen Hill – Hope For 2013?

Throughout the off-season we will step into the film room and provide a closer look at various players on the New York Jets roster. If there is a player in particular you’d like to see a review on, leave a note in the comment section or shoot us a Tweet with the hashtag #TOJFilmRoom
The New York Jets spent a 2nd round pick on wide receiver Stephen Hill in the 2012 NFL Draft. Possessing an elite combination of size (6-4, 215 pounds) and speed (4.36 forty time), Hill has immense physical potential as a NFL wide receiver but there were a few concerning things about him coming out of Georgia Tech.

Hill played in a triple option offense and was asked to run a limited number of routes in college. There was very little evidence of him being able to successfully convert his route-running to the next level, as it lacked precision and physicality. He also showed inconsistency catching the football. When speaking with a current NFL GM last off-season about Hill, he said “the physical talents ...

Jets Injury Report: Stephen Hill Placed on IR

The New York Jets have placed rookie wide receiver Stephen
Hill on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury, reports the
Associated Press.

The New York Jets have placed rookie wide receiver
Stephen Hill on injured reserve, ending his season because of a knee
injury.

The Jets selected Hill in the second round of the 2012 NFL
Draft out of Georgia Tech. The wide receiver sustained a sprained lateral
collateral ligament in his right knee during a Dec. 9 contest against the
Jacksonville Jaguars. He did not travel with the team for last Monday’s loss to
the Tennessee Titans.

While he was able to get off to a quick start, catching five
passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets’ season opener against the
Buffalo Bills, Hill was hampered by injuries throughout the season and wouldn’t
record another reception until Week 6. On the year the rookie finished with 21
catches for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

Jets' Hill day-to-day with knee injury

New York Jets wide receiver Stephen Hill, who has been slowed by hamstring and knee injuries this season, must overcome another knee ailment. Hill underwent an MRI exam Monday that revealed a strained lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. The team lists his status as day-to-day, and ESPN.com reported that he won't need surgery. The injury occurred when Hill slipped while trying to make a catch in the second quarter of the Jets' 17-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. In 11 games (eight starts) this season, Hill has 21 catches for 252 yards and three touchdowns. The rookie out of Georgia Tech was a second-round draft pick last spring. The Jets also announced that linebacker Bryan Thomas is day-to-day due to a strained pectoral muscle. Both players will have an extra day to heal, as the Jets play Monday night at the Tennessee Titans.

Stephen Hill a big part of the Jets winning this week

Stephen Hill (hamstring) played just 18 snaps in the Jets’ Week 6 win over the Colts, but they were huge. Seeing his first action since Week 3, Hill rotated with Chaz Schilens and ended up with a 3/23/1 line on three targets. His touchdown came from five yards out when he broke off a route and fought his way open for a scrambling Mark Sanchez. Hill is certainly the most talented wideout on the Jets, but will need to get on the field more than just 18 snaps. Sanchez will need to get Hill the ball more if they want to win more games in New York, but Hill is a big reason the team is in a four way tie in the AFC East.

Stephen Hill has strong debut for Jets

New York Jets 2nd-round pick Stephen Hill turned in a strong debut, catching five passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets win over the Bills.

Hill made an immediate impact for the Jets

He’s first Jets rookie with two touchdown receptions in a game since Keyshawn Johnson in 1996.
Even in this performance it was clear that Hill is still developing as a receiver, but it was also clear that his speed and athleticism makes him an immediate threat.
Hill caught five of the six balls thrown his direction, and that type of consistently should only lead to a larger role in the Jets offense as the season progresses.

King of the Hill: Stephen Hill living up to the hype

Stephen Hill of the New York Jets was one of my top five rookie wide receivers to watch in 2012 and he didn’t disappoint this last Sunday with 5 catches for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns is proving the critics wrong. It was fitting for Hill to put up such a big performance, because the entire offseason, he was getting booed and was even becoming part of the blame for the woes of the Jets’ offense in preseason.

New York Jets: How To Get The Most Out Of Stephen Hill

It is impossible not to be excited about the potential of rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill. You don’t see an endless line of receivers who stand 6 foot 4, 215 pounds and still manage to run a 4.31 forty. The guy averaged over 29 yards per catch last season and is coming to an offense that couldn’t buy a 20 yard play last year. Yet, as the recent history of second round receivers shows, it might be wise to temper that excitement, especially when combined with the reality that Hill played in a triple-option offense and only caught 49 passes in 3 years at Georgia Tech.
Considering where he was selected, Hill is going to enter training camp as the de facto starter opposite Santonio Holmes at wide receiver. His size and speed has to be respected, despite being an unproven player and that will open up things underneath for Holmes and Dustin Keller.
But how can the Jets get the most out of him in his rookie season?
First off, despite being a “starter” don’t expect Hill to immediately pla...

The upcoming season – What I’M looking forward to.

Stephen Hill will be doing work as a rookie, mark my words.

First off, forgive me for not posting in awhile. I’ve had Lyme’s Disease, which comes along with pretty severe brain fog, which comes along with some bad writers’ block.
Now, onto the topic. While many Jets fans tend to be pretty pessimistic (especially the older ones), I pride myself as being somewhat of an optimist. Naturally, I’m actually pretty excited about the up-coming season.
Here’s why. There’s the draft. Our defense and Wide Receiver corps looks vastly improved. So much, in fact, that we may actually have a chance at the division this year. The key to beating Brady is, and always has been, pressure up the middle and disrupting the timing between him and his receivers. I think we drafted Coples for that exact reason. Coples had far and away his most productive college season rushing from the defensive tackle spot. This, along with the Karl Dunbar signing (former DL coach of the Vikings) almost definitely mea...

Stephen Hill to the Jets: Fantasy Analysis

Stephen Hill was drafted by the New York Jets.
Hill wowed onlookers at the NFL scouting combine and propelled his stock into the second round despite coming from Georgia Tech and their option offense where he managed only 28 receptions in 2011.
With that said he did manage 29.3 yards per reception for a total of 820 yards which is quite impressive. What is even more impressive is his 2012 NFL combine best 4.36 40-time coupled with the explosiveness he showed in his receiver combine best broad jump.
And he did all of this at 6’4.
The Jets are hoping he will follow former Georgia Tech receivers Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas in being able to make a successful transition to the NFL despite not having the benefit of playing in a pro-style offense in college.
Hill has the chance to become something special in the NFL with a receivers coach working with him throughout the season.
Once Hill can get his route running down, Hill is bound to cause major problems for opposing defenses wit...

New York Jets get the valuable WR Stephen Hill under contract.

NEW YORK—The Jets showed their love for WR Stephen Hill by getting their second round pick under contract quickly.
His four year $5 million dollar deal may not sound like blockbuster numbers, but that is thanks to the rookie salary cap.
With $2.8 million dollars guaranteed, Hill has plenty of reasons to get on the field and make a difference immediately.
He shot up the boards and became the receiver de jour by the start of the draft. He was the crucial component that was brought in to complement Tim Tebow.

Stephen Hill Falls To Jets

Wide receiver Stephen Hill fell to the New York Jets with the No. 43 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Spin:
Hill dropped further than he should have due to concerns regarding his route running and inconsistent hands after playing in a triple-option offense at Georgia Tech - but there is stud potential here, as Hill has great size and blazing speed and will be a matchup nightmare for defenses. Will provide the Jets with the big and dangerous target that they failed to get out of Braylon Edwards, and makes an excellent complement for Santonio Holmes. Strong scoring potential here, especially going by what he brings to the table as a red zone weapon.
