Browns sign OL Rashad Butler

The Cleveland Browns today added some insurance to their offensive line by signing veteran Rashad Butler-
“The Cleveland Browns today signed offensive lineman Rashad Butler to a one-year contract, the club announced. Butler was previously as an unrestricted free agent from Houston.
Originally drafted by Carolina in the third round (89th overall) of the 2006 draft, Butler has appeared in 41 career games with four starts. He was waived by the Panthers on September 3, 2007 and spent the next six seasons with the Texans after being claimed off waivers. He spent all of 2012 on injured reserve with a triceps injury. In 2010, he played in all 16 contests with four starts at left tackle.
A four-year letterman at the University of Miami, Fla. (2002-05), Butler started 23 of the 38 games in which he appeared at both right and left tackle. Born February 10, 1983, the 6-4, 310-pound Butler is a native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he attended Dwyer High School.”

Which Browns veteran is most likely to be replaced?

Here today, gone tomorrow. No, I’m not talking about Ezequiel Carrera or the pipeline of stating pitchers that goes from Columbus to Cleveland. In the NFL, players aren’t guaranteed next year. Every year plenty of veterans around the league sweat through roster cuts before, during and after training camp. Those wearing the Orange and Brown are no different.
We’ve also seen this movie before. New coaching staff comes in and wants to find their own guys. New general manager comes in and has no ties to anyone on the roster. It is a recipe for change and uncertainty. Just ask Chris Gocong. After trading Gocong out of Philadelphia, and then cutting him this off-season, safe to say Joe Banner isn’t on Gocong’s Christmas card list.
Many decisions have already been made. Gocong is gone. Sheldon Brown was not offered a new deal. Frostee Rucker was released. Usama young, Colt McCoy and Emmanuel Acho- all gone.
But if history is right, there will be a few more veterans cut before the season be...

2013 NFL Draft Grades: Day 1

Gridiron Experts Draft Grades: Day 1
There has been some strange and unpredictable NFL drafts over the years, but this may have been the weirdest. These NFL Draft grades are based on player talent, value of the spot the team selected the prospect, and fantasy value towards the 2013 season.

Fantasy Factor: High- Eric Fisher will help the offensive line for years to come. As much as fans want the sexy pick, drafting an elite offensive lineman improves everything from pass protection to helping those must-have short yardage downs and distances. Mike Rodriguez Andy Reid has being doing this for years, Reid strongly believes in building through the big uglies on the offensive and defensive lines. Chiefs can trust Andy to set the building blocks in place for his new tenure, more of this should come day 2 & 3

Money Where Your Mouth Is: Week 8

Money Where Your Mouth Is
Last week Gridiron Experts debuted Money Where Your Mouth Is with a successful 3-0 start. Ryan Miller is on a definite hot streak that many are hoping he continues on his path of terror. All three games came down to the wire, much as most of the games in week seven, yet last week’s article predicted Indianapolis Colts-2 or the Browns, Dallas Cowboys-2.5 on the road beating the Panthers and the New Orleans Saints-2 getting by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. -Who by the way, look like a powerhouse all of a sudden after Thursday’s night win.
While Gridiron Experts is a fantasy football site first and foremost, we are featuring this weekly article throughout the rest of the season to cater to those who love Pigskin picks. If you like to see all the Gridiron Experts picks check out our weekly NFL picks for your pick’em pools.

Back from the dead is our weekly sports betting article ”Money Where Your Mouth Is” Fantasy owners can stick their noises up all they want, but our demographics tell us that many fantasy owners are also betting on the odd game here and there.
Browns' offensive line determined to be better

BEREA, Ohio For a long time, Browns fans have wanted the team to address the offensive line through the draft.
Tom Heckert has done so in his three years as GM with the drafting of Shawn Lauvao, Todd Pinkston, Mitchell Schwartz and Ryan Miller in that time span. Prior to Heckerts arrival, Phil Savage used the third pick overall in 2007 to select left tackle Joe Thomas. Eric Mangini used a first-round pick to take center Alex Mack in 2009.
In summary, the Browns this year, are expecting to start two players selected in the first-round, one each from the second-, third- and fifth-roundsall drafted by the Browns. If the personnel evaluators were right on those players, the Browns could have a good line for a long time.
Last week, against the Eagles, the line looked anything but good or cohesive as the Eagles sacked Browns quarterbacks five times.
The good news is was the preseason.
The bad news is the Browns play the Eagles in the first regular season game on Sept.9. The Eagles led the NFL with 50 sacks last se

Browns '12 offensive line could be a strength

As the Browns prepare to embark upon their second season under Pat Shurmur there are many questions that remain. With training camp opening Sat. July 28, were going to take a position-by-position analysis of the current roster as the team heads to camp over the next few weeks.
Part five we look at the offensive line.
Candidates: Joe Thomas, Shawn Lauvao, Alex Mack, Jason Pinkston, Mitchell Schwartz, Oniel Cousins, John Greco, Garth Gerhart, Ryan Miller, Matt Cleveland, Jake Anderson, Stanley Daniels, Jeff Shugarts, Jarrod Shaw and Dominic Alford.
For many years the Browns didnt spend many draft choices on their offensive lineand the results showed.
The current regime led by Tom Heckert has made it a priority to draft offensive lineman. His first year he drafted Lauvao in the third-round and in 2011 he drafted Pinkston in the fifth-round. In 2012, Heckert used the second-round pick (37th overall) to draft the presumable starting right tackle in Schwartz. He also used a fifth-round pick to take the versatile Mi

A Closer Look At The Browns

The AFC North is always tough, and 2011 was no exception. All four teams were in the top 10 in overall defense. They made up half of the AFC playoff teams, going a combined 25-15 outside the division. Even the Browns were an almost respectable 4-6 outside the AFC North.
2012 should be similar. So getting a better look at the rest of the division to see what should be coming our way this year is wise. Let’s begin an examination of the division by looking at the team at the other end of I-71.

Browns sign 8 of 11 draft picks

The Cleveland Browns have signed eight of their 11 draft picks.

The club announced Saturday that they've signed offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz, defensive lineman John Hughes, wide receiver Travis Benjamin, linebacker James-Michael Johnson, offensive lineman Ryan Miller, defensive lineman Billy Winn, defensive back Trevin Wade and fullback Brad Smelley.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Running back Trent Richardson and quarterback Brandon Weeden, the club's two first-round picks, remain unsigned. Also, linebacker Emmanuel Acho, a sixth-round selection, has not yet signed.

Schwartz, a third-round pick from California, is expected to start at right tackle as a rookie.

Smelley has been impressive during the team's three-day rookie minicamp. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder, a seventh-round pick from Alabama, was more of a tight end than traditional fullback for the Crimson Tide. Smelley has shown nice hands in snagging some of Weeden's throws.

Cleveland Browns Ryan Miller:“Bad-boy” offensive lineman

Does anyone remember the good old days of football when it was more about leaving your blood and guts on the field rather than your best TD celebration? Or how a player would go out and compete with broken bones or bruised ribs? Now-a-days a player may miss a game with an ingrown nail or residual flu like symptoms from “strep throat” (yes that’s a knock on former #40).
Who better to get the inside info on the Browns’ new draft class than the bloggers that followed them in college? We asked The Ralphie Report for some insight on Colorado OL Ryan Miller. David Gerhardt was happy to assist.
How would you characterize his college career?
He was a 4+ year starter who was a leader on offense for a group of guys that played through some tough times here at CU. He’s a guy that believes in himself and though he never quite lived up to the expectations we had for him coming out of high school (Parade HS All-American), he still was a consistent and solid force who occasionally had standout performances. He had a number of offensive line coaches at CU and played in a couple of offenses that didn’t necessarily work to his strengths.
What are the Browns getting with Miller?
Ryan Miller is a high-character guy that absolutely loves the game of football. He’s a huge man who gives huge effort. His technique would disappear at times, but he has a pretty solid floor...
