Redskins Training Camp Battles: Running Backs

Alfred Morris is locked in as the go to guy in the backfield. The question on Redskins fans minds is who is coming with him? The Camp Battles series rolls on with a look at the running backs corp. If you missed the earlier posts, they are below: Redskins Training Camp Battles: Defensive Backs Redskins Training Camp Battles: Defensive Line There is no question after the season that Alfred Morris had for the Redskins that he is the primary workhorse in this backfield. But behind Morris, there will be a lot of competition for two or three running back roster spots. Health will play a major role in who makes the final cut. If Roy Helu can get — and stay — healthy, he is almost guaranteed to have the spot as Morris’ main back up. As we saw in his rookie year, when healthy, Helu can be an electric change of pace running back who brings speed, power and versatility to the Redskins backfield. Helu is also a good receiver as he totaled 49 receptions as a rookie. There is the potential fo...

Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris Loves His PB&J Minus the Carbs

Twitter is just great. With access at your fingertips the world is so willing to share almost anything. Often times it's something pretty cool; a lot of folks get pretty personal; other times it's dull and boring.

Sometimes its a little bit odd like a recent tweet by the Washington Redskins. For some reason they decided to share with the world what running back Alfred Morris likes to eat after he works out-- peanut butter and jelly.

Not the sandwich--just the peanut butter and jelly.

#Redskins RB @trey_deuces eating PB&J no bread for post-workout snack. Says even as a kid he never wanted the bread. twitter.com/Redskins/statu…

Okay so it's not real odd; just a little.

The man is playing in the NFL and kicking *ss so there must be something to it.

Alfred Morris’ brother gets a tryout with the Redskins

The Washington Redskins gave Alfred Morris’ younger brother, Shawn Morris a try out this weekend. Morris played college football at division III Birmingham-Southern.
“Same personality, for sure,” said Redskins head coach Mike Shanhan on Sunday, via ProFootballTalk.com. “I’m not sure they both run the same. But what a quality young man.”
Over 40 guys tried out for the Redskins this past weekend.
“What we do is have our scouts look at these players and if they think somebody has an attribute where it gives them a chance to make our football team, then we bring them in,” Shanahan said. “We brought in, like I mentioned, I believe it was 47 guys and either a scout or a coach saw something that they thought they should be in our camp and have a chance to make our football team.”

Rambo could be steal of Redskins 2013 Draft

Bacarri Rambo could turn out to be the defensive Alfred Morris that the Redskins so desperately have been wanting. The 2013 NFL Draft has come and gone for the Washington Redskins and where last year was all about Robert Griffin III, and the sixth round acquisition of Alfred Morris, this year was all about the defense. Alfred Morris was an unknown running back out of Florida Atlantic University when the Redskins selected him in the sixth round in 2012 and that late round pick paid off as Morris was able to rush for over 1,600 yards...
"With the 173rd pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select Alfred Morris, running back from Florida Atlantic."It's one of those late draft choices that few fans notice.1,613 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 259 fantasy points later, few NFL fans DON'T know who Alfred Morris is.It's one of those late-round home runs that GMs and scouts dream about. Some team is going to take a chance on Marcus Lattimore despite his leg turning to rubber while playing against Tennessee, hoping to hit one of those home runs. However, Lattimore is not an Alfred Morris. Lattimore is a known elite athlete who has terrible luck with his knees. An Alfred Morris is a small school player who only the most hardcore college football fans (or fans of the specific small school) will have a chance of hearing about. An Alfred Morris must be picked on day three of the NFL Draft (that's rounds four, five, six, and seven). So with this in mind, let's walk together dow...

Redskins working to get under the salary cap, need to trim $3 million to get under

The 2013 salary cap is set at $123 million and the Washington Redskins need to comply by March 12th.

After being slammed by penalties for spending too much in an uncapped year (2010), the Redskins are scrambling to find the loose change.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Redskins have one week to make it happen.

‘The NFL notified its 32 teams Thursday night that the salary cap for the 2013 season is set at $123 million.

For the Redskins, the figure is expected to be reduced by $18 million, the amount docked by the league as the second half of a two-year, $36 million penalty for how the team structured contracts during the uncapped 2010 season.

After factoring in the penalty, Washington is believed to be $3 million over the cap.’

Alfred Morris drives a $1,300 dollar car everyday to Redskins practice

Amid a sea of big-rimmed Escalades and decked-out BMWs, the NFL’s leading rookie rusher rolls into Redskins Park on 14s. Alfred Morris, the sixth-round draft pick who was anointed the Washington Redskins surprise starter and is currently tied for first in the NFC in rushing touchdowns, is still driving his 1991 Mazda 626 to work. It’s got all the amenities: cloth seats, power steering, tape deck, AM and FM radio and has the added bonus of being made the same year the Redskins last won a Super Bowl. “It has some sentimental value to it now,” Morris told The Redskins Blog. “It just keeps me grounded, where I came from and all the hard work for me to get to this point. So that’s what helps me.” Where he comes from is Florida Atlantic and a senior season that saw the team go 1-11. Scouts figured he’d catch on with a team as a third or fourth running back, if he caught on at all. But he caught the attention of running-back whisperer Mike Shanahan, earned a starting job with his elusive p...

Redskins rookie still driving '91 Mazda

Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris seems to understand NFL stands for ‘Not For Long,’ as in how long most 6th round draft picks will be cashing checks in the league. The guy came out of Florida Atlantic in the 2012 draft and seemingly knew his rookie contract wasn’t going to stretch very far. That’s his 1991 Mazda 626.
He drives it to the Redskins practice facility, according to the Redskins blog, and parks it right next to five-figure SUVs. How much is a 1991 Mazda 626 worth? Very little. Here’s one for sale in Rome, GA for $999.
Let’s keep in mind that the Morris ride is a Florida ride.

Which made for some interesting road trips.
“It was rough,” Morris recalled. “I put my emergency lights on, and people would be driving behind me, and I’d be like, ‘My emergency lights are on — stop following me.’
