2013 Green Bay Packers: An Early Look At The Depth Chart

Who are your 2013 Green Bay Packers?
With the pre-season officially over with, we now turn our attention to the upcoming training camp and preseason. The big question is: What will the 2013 Green Bay Packers look like?
I’m taking a look at each position and listing who I think are the likely starters, as of today. Training camp always tends to change that list quite a bit so this is obviously as of today, as it stands, and without having really seen many of these guys play.
Quarterback
Starter: Aaron Rodgers
Backup: BJ Coleman
Bubble: Graham Harrell, Matt Brown
Quick hits: Rodgers is the league’s highest-paid player and let’s not forget he’s pretty good at what he does. No question there and so the biggest debate is whether Coleman can leapfrog Harrell and will the team carry three active quarterbacks? My thought is that if Coleman wins the backup spot, they will likely cut Harrell. Illinois State’s Matt Brown could be a good candidate to land on the practice squad, much like...

Packers News: Team keeps eight practice squad players

Packers OT Andrew Datko
The Green Bay Packers have signed eight practice squad players to future contracts, according to the team’s official website.
Tight end Brandon Bostick, quarterback B.J. Coleman, tackle Andrew Datko, center Garth Gerhart, guard Joe Gibbs, linebacker Micah Johnson, cornerback James Nixon and safety Chaz Powell have all been signed by the team. This according to Packers general manager Ted Thompson.
Bostick was a pleasant surprise in training camp and remained on the Packers’ practice squad for the entire season. With the uncertainty surrounding Jermichael Finley’s future in Green Bay, Bostick could potentially challenge for a roster spot next season.
Coleman was selected by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He showed impressive arm strength in training camp but was never activated on game day. He continues to be a backup quarterback-in-training for the Packers.
Datko was a seventh-round pick of the Packers last season. He was inconsistent...

Cleveland Browns’ Mike Holmgren doesn’t quit!

When it was announced that Browns president Mike Holmgren would meet with the Cleveland media Monday afternoon, lots of fans assumed it would be to discuss his future with the organization. The former Super Bowl winning coach made it clear he has every intention on finishing his current contract with Cleveland, which will expire following the 2014 NFL season.
With the impending sale of the team of Pilot Flying J owner Jimmy Haslam III, Holmgren’s future status with the team has been filled with uncertainty. Everyone from the common NFL fan to the sleepless league insider has predicted what will happen at the time the new owner puts his stamp on the franchise. When formally asked about it during the Monday press conference, Holmgren unpretentiously replied, ‘I’ve never quit anything in my life.’
This came as a shock to most, especially with the impending sale of the team to Pilot Flying J owner Jimmy Haslam III. Many assume that former Philadelphia Eagles team president Joe Banner, w...

Browns Waive Sanford, Paxson

From the Browns-
“The Cleveland Browns today were awarded linebacker Tank Carder off waivers from Buffalo and defensive lineman Ishmaa’ily Kitchen (pronounced: ish-MAY-lee) off waivers from Baltimore. In addition, the team waived defensive lineman Brian Sanford and waived/injured defensive lineman Scott Paxson.
The team also signed eight players to its practice squad. Linebacker Solomon Elimimian (pronounced: EL-ahh-mem-EE-en) who was waived by Minnesota on August 25, joins defensive lineman Ronnie Cameron, wide receiver Josh Cooper, linebacker Benjamin Jacobs, fullback Brad Smelley and offensive linemen Garth Gerhart, Jarrod Shaw and Jeff Shugarts, who were each waived by the Browns yesterday.
Carder was a fifth round (147th overall) selection by the Bills in the 2012 draft. He appeared in all four preseason games and recorded nine tackles. A four-year letterman at TCU (2008-11), Carder was a two-time Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011) and was named ...

NFL News: Cleveland Browns make 22 roster moves, reach required limit

The Cleveland Browns made a series of roster moves on Friday in order to reach the NFL required 53-man roster limit. Two veteran players were released. TE Evan Moore and QB Seneca Wallace. Both players are vested veterans and will be free to sign with any other franchise immediately without having to go through waivers. The release of Wallace might not signal that Cleveland is content to stand pat with Colt McCoy as Brandon Weeden’s backup however. Rumors suggest that the Browns are interested in acquiring QB A.J. Feeley.
Brown’s LB Scott Fujita was placed on the suspended list and will not count against the team’s 53-man roster. Cleveland also traded S David Sims to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional 2013 draft pick.
Eighteen players were waived by the Browns on Friday-

Ronnie Cameron DL
Josh Cooper WR
Stanley Daniels OL
James Dockery DB
Garth Gerhart OL

Browns '12 offensive line could be a strength

As the Browns prepare to embark upon their second season under Pat Shurmur there are many questions that remain. With training camp opening Sat. July 28, were going to take a position-by-position analysis of the current roster as the team heads to camp over the next few weeks.
Part five we look at the offensive line.
Candidates: Joe Thomas, Shawn Lauvao, Alex Mack, Jason Pinkston, Mitchell Schwartz, Oniel Cousins, John Greco, Garth Gerhart, Ryan Miller, Matt Cleveland, Jake Anderson, Stanley Daniels, Jeff Shugarts, Jarrod Shaw and Dominic Alford.
For many years the Browns didnt spend many draft choices on their offensive lineand the results showed.
The current regime led by Tom Heckert has made it a priority to draft offensive lineman. His first year he drafted Lauvao in the third-round and in 2011 he drafted Pinkston in the fifth-round. In 2012, Heckert used the second-round pick (37th overall) to draft the presumable starting right tackle in Schwartz. He also used a fifth-round pick to take the versatile Mi

Cleveland Browns 2012 53-man Roster Projection and Breakdown

The Browns have high hopes for 2012 first-round picks Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson but can they make Cleveland a contender in 2012?
The Cleveland Browns 2011 season started off well but ended in disappointment and is yet another year that Browns nation may want to forget. Things looked promising at one point as the team jumped out to a 2-1 start but when it was all said and done, the Browns turned into the same old Browns and after sitting at 3-3 after six games, the team lost nine of its final 10 games to once again finish in the basement of the AFC North.
Yet, under the leadership second-year head coach Pat Shurmer and team President Mike Holmgren, the Browns have invested heavily in their future and after using a pair of first round picks to select former Alabama running back Trent Richardson and former Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden.
Richardson is believed to be the best running to come out of the draft since Adrian Peterson in 2007 and is the total p...
