After five-week layoff the trucks return to action

More than a month has flown by since the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series hit the track at Daytona for the season opener. But this Saturday, the trucks awake from their slumber to pound the pavement at Martinsville for the Kroger 250 (1:30 p.m. ET, SPEED).
When the trucks arrive at the short track, Daytona champion Johnny Sauter will bring with him a six-point lead over Ron Hornaday Jr. and Justin Lofton. Sauter hopes his success at one of the circuit's largest tracks will carry over to the series' smallest track, where he has one victory, coming in the 2011 Kroger 250.
Most of the drivers are looking forward to finally returning to the track after the time off.
"I'm glad that we are finally getting back to racing; everyone is itching to get going again," said James Buescher, the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion. "All the guys in the shop have been staying busy during the break building new trucks and prepping for test sessions."

NASCAR Flashback (2008) – Setzer Takes Hamilton Racing Back To Victory Lane

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (March 29, 2008) — For the first time since the late Bobby Hamilton won at Mansfield, Ohio, in 2005, Dennis Setzer took Bobby Hamilton Racing back to victory lane.
“This win right here is for Bobby Hamilton only — he is the man!” shouted crew chief Marcus Richmond after Setzer, who had run 173 laps since his final pit stop, crossed the finish line with trucks wrecking in his wake.
Setzer’s victory in the Kroger 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Saturday at Martinsville Speedway was his third at the .526-mile short track and the 18th of his career. Setzer won for the first time since taking the checkered flag at Mansfield on May 26, 2007.
Hamilton, who posted 10 wins in the truck series before his death from cancer on Jan. 7, 2007, claimed his last victory at that same track on May 15, 2005.
“I ran second to Bobby Hamilton the year he won the championship (2004),” Setzer said. “We raced really hard against each other, but off the track, we were the best of ...

U.S. Pavement Services and 1-800-PAVEMENT to Sponsor Clay Greenfield at Daytona International Speedway

U.S. Pavement Services and 1-800-PAVEMENT are pleased to announce their sponsorship of Clay Greenfield and the #68 Dodge Ram at the NextEra Energy Resources 250 truck series race in Daytona Beach, Fla., on February 22.
The hard-racing, tough trucks of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series take to the high banks on the night that produces some of Daytona’s closest racing. This year, the black and yellow 1-800-PAVEMENT and U.S. Pavement Services logos will adorn Clay’s No. 68 truck for the 100-lap Camping World Truck Series race.
“1-800-PAVEMENT and U.S. Pavement Services are proud to sponsor the incredibly talented Clay Greenfield at this year’s Daytona truck series race,” said Mike Musto, president and founder, U.S. Pavement Services and 1-800-PAVEMENT. “Clay is a great guy and this sponsorship is a natural fit, since he is also 1-800-PAVEMENT Network member.”
Greenfield will be reunited with crew chief Danny Gill. Gill gave Clay his first driving opportunity in the series when he w...

Defending Champ Pulliam Leads Qualifying For Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300

In a race that has a reputation for close competition, it shouldn’t have been a surprise when two drivers turned in identical times for the top starting spot for Sunday’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway.
Lee Pulliam and Matt McCall turned in matching fast times of 20.301 seconds (93.276 mph) Saturday afternoon. Pulliam was awarded the top position in a tiebreaker, which was national points standings. Pulliam, defending champion of the race, also won this year’s national championship.
Under this year’s new all-heat race format, Pulliam will start on the pole of the first 25-lap heat race while McCall will start first in the second heat. Garrett Campbell will start on the pole in the third heat race while Mike Darne will be the pole-sitter in the fourth heat race.

Ty Dillon slides to first truck win

After the disappointment on the final restart at Bristol a week ago which resulted in the worst career finish for Ty Dillon in the Truck Series, he and his No.3 team bounced back by winning the pole for Friday night’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
From the drop of the green flag, the Dillon’s truck proved to be one of the strongest in the field, taking the lead from Kyle Busch for the first time on lap 10.
After the race’s first caution, Dillon was passed for the lead on restart after his crew kept him in the lead off pit road.
Even when he wasn’t in the lead, Dillon was able to keep the leaders in sight, ready to strike at any moment.
During the race’s long green-flag run, Dillon’s crew had an issue on what looked to be the final pit stop of the race, causing him to cycle back in the fourth position before being able to race his way up to third.
Through all this, Busch was sailing away to possibly his fifth win in the Truck Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
But, a caution for deb...

Ty Dillon takes truck pole in Atlanta

The famous No.3 is on the pole in Atlanta.
No, it’s not an Earnhardt behind the wheel. It’s 18-year-old Ty Dillon on the pole for Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway—the Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 200.
Dillon’s lap circling the 1.5-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway at 177.357 mph was enough to hold off his Richard Childress Racing teammate, Tim George Jr., for his second career pole and his second in 2012.
“Couldn’t be more happy for my guys. Last week was a tough week was a tough week for us. It wasn’t anybody’s fault, just running out of gas is one of those things that happens,” said Dillon after winning the pole in his first trip to the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
“It gives us a lot of confidence. It’s a relief to get another pole, and here at Atlanta is such a tricky track, I didn’t think we were going to qualify that good.”

Truck Series preview: Atlanta Motor Speedway

Just another reminder how quickly the 2012 NASCAR season is going by, it’s time for the once-a-year stop to the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend.
With the thrilling action the Truck Series has shown so far this season, a repeat performance on Friday night shouldn’t come as a surprise.
One of the main challenges drivers and teams will face on Friday night is the rough surface of the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
As is the case at most tracks, in order for a driver to have a chance at winning, their truck must handle well. This weekend, that will be placed at a premium as tires on AMS’s pavement is like placing shredded cheese on a cheese grader.
On top of having a well balanced truck, crews must compensate for the high speeds AMS creates with it’s wide racing grooves, allowing drivers to move all over the 1.5-mile speedway.
If you’re looking for a young driver to break through for their first win of the season, it’s not likely. Past winners of the truck race at AMS have been typ...

NASCAR Truck Series Heads to Michigan With "Young Guns" in Control

Owners Putting Forth Effort To Showcase ‘Young Guns’
Everything points toward the crowning of a first-time champion in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The top seven – and nine of the top 10 – in current standings have yet to win a title.
It’s also possible the champion will be an under-30 driver for just the third time in series history and a year after Austin Dillon became the series’ youngest champion at 22. Dillon’s younger brother Ty, 21, is eight points out of the lead and four of the top six in the standings have yet to celebrate their 25th birthdays.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series director Wayne Auton isn’t surprised at the turn of events pointing to owners like Richard Childress, Steve Turner and Eddie Sharp having faith in future stars.
“A lot of it has got to do with the owners,” Auton said. “They’re putting forth all the effort to make these ‘young guns’ look so good. This is unbelievable how they race and take care of their equipment.”

Rolling 'Stones: Starr, Bodine Celebrate Historic Starts

Even though the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is enjoying its last off-weekend of the season, there's still plenty of racing action with both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series competing this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.
Of particular note, two drivers will reach significant career milestones in Saturday night's American Ethanol 225 NCWTS race.
David Starr, driver of the No. 81 NCCER/BYF Toyota, will become only the fifth driver in series history to start 300 races.
"It's an honor and I'm excited," Starr said Friday. "Ever since I was three years old going to the race track with my father, this is what I've always wanted to do in life. … I'm just blessed and glad to be part of this sport still. So, it's pretty cool."
Rick Crawford is the all-time starts leader in NCWTS annals with 334 (he'll start 335 Saturday), followed by Terry Cook (314), Ron Hornaday Jr. (309) and Dennis Setzer (304).
