Duke takes out Heels, hand them 2nd loss of season

Duke shot unbelievably well from behind the arc and did enough to limit everyone but Tyler Hansbrough to preserve an 89-78 victory over UNC tonight at the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill. Duke was led by resurgent shooting of PG Greg Paulus, who scored 18 points all on 6 of 8 shooting from three point land, while Jon Scheyer added 17 and Kyle Singler 14 pts and 10 boards. The Heels held leading scorer DeMarcus Nelson to only 13 points but were unable to get any contributions from anybody besides All-American Hansbrough's 28 points and 18 rebounds. Ty Lawson being out really hurt the team's offensive flow, as 3rd stringer Quentin Thomas scored 10 points but had 6 of the team's 20 turnovers. UNC looked totally out of sync when not feeding Hansbrough, and Wayne Ellington shot 3-14 while scoring only 8 points. Marcus Ginyard did step up, scoring 16 points and being more effective at the point that Thomas. The perimeter defense was bad, and the lack of offensive flow really hurt them even thought they outrebounded the Devils by a large margin.

Duke goes into Beast Mode, defeats UNC 89-78

The #2 Duke Blue Devils defeated the #3 North Carolina Wednesday night by the score of 89-78. Ty Lawson sat this one out and it appeared to cost UNC, who could not run as good as they could with his presence. Tyler Hansborough had 28 points, but a poor shooting night for Wayne Ellington (3-14 8pts.) was a major factor in the game. And another well balanced scoring night for Duke was a key for their victory. Duke now moves to 20-1 0n the year and UNC falls to 21-2.

Duke defeats Florida St. 70-57 thanks to Scheyer's 21 points

The Duke Blue Devils defeated the Florida State Seminoles last night thanks to 6th man Jon Scheyer's 21 points. The Seminoles made it a game until a 16-0 run by Scheyer led the Dukies to a win, despite having leading scorer DeMarcus Nelson held to only 7 points. Jason Rich scored 18 for the Seminoles but it wasn't enough to keep FSU alive.

How will Duke's basketball team do this year?

This team has 11 guys that can all play effectively in a game. They have Scheyer who is a great 6th man, one of the best in the country. They play some of the best defense in the country with their usual tough, get on the floor, menatllity. The weakness that really bothers me about the devils this season is heir size. The have Zoubek who is another good player off the bench as their only guy who plays in the low post. Lance Thomas is their starting center and I'm worried about he would be able to handle somebody like Hibbert, or Hansbrough in the middle. What do you guys think of Duke's team this year?
