DESTIN --- in a perfect world, Marreese Speights would have hung around for his senior season, Jai Lucas would have never transferred to Texas and Nick Calathes would be planning to return for his junior season rather than head to Greece where a multi-million dollar contract awaits. In the less than perfect world that is Billy Donovan’s reality for next season, the Florida Gators have holes to fill and about the only thing he’s sure of is that it will be ball handling by committee.

Who needs Brand? Speights is great!

Who needs Elton Brand when you have a rookie who is playing like this? The Sixers thought highly of Marreese Speights when they selected him with the 16th pick in the 2008 draft but I don't think even they expected this kind of production. Speights, taking advantage of extended minutes with Elton Brand out for the season, exploded for a career-high 24 points as the Sixers knocked off.... Click for more on the impressive rookie.....

And oh, by the way, the 76ers recorded their fourth straight game with a 109-94 victory over the Atlanta Hawks, the fifth best team in the Eastern Conference.

"First I'd like to thank the people who watched our game," said Sixers' coach Tony DiLeo. "They are true Sixers fans. I know there was another game going on."

The Sixers played perhaps their best game of the season, shotting 54.7 percent from the floor, 60 percent from the three-point line, 85.7 percent from the free-throw line, 27 assists, a plus-15 rebounding margin.

Andre Iguodala led all scorers with 27 points, to go along with nine assists and six rebounds. Thadeus Young continues to prove that he is the best Sixers' draft pick since Iguodala, or perhaps even the other A.I., with 22 points and nine rebounds of his own.

Equally as impressive was rookie forward Marreese Speights, who was 6-of-7 for 12 points and eight rebounds.

"I'm just going out there and hoopin, " said Speights.

The win puts the Sixers at 17-20 on the season, just one game back of the Milwaukee Bucks for the final playoff spot, whereas the Hawks are 22-14. The Sixers are riding the conference's best winning streak at four.

"It's fun to win," said guard Royal Ivey. "When you're winning, everything is fun. After midnight, we'll stop celebrating this one."

The Sixers look to make it five in a row against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

Many of Philly's finest believe that PG, Andre Miller, was the MVP of their team last year. Those sentiments mean a lot right now as Miller is in the final year of his contract with the 76ers and will be earning $10.2 million this year. The Sixers want to start talking about a contract extension and Miller is on board. Andre dropped his former agent, Lon Babby, a little more than a month ago and was recently handling talks between himself and the 76ers. That is all about to change. Andre Miller has another Miller on his side now. Andy Miller of ASM Sports is representing Andre in his discussions with GM Ed Stefanski. Andre joins Marreese Speights as 76ers clients for ASM Sports.

Luca Sbisa and Marreese Speights probably don't know who each other are, but now they do have something in common. They were both drafted by professional Philadelphia based sports teams. Sbisa by the Flyers 19th overall in the NHL Entry Draft and Speights by the Sixers 16th overall in the NBA Draft. Neither are expected to contribute much early, Sbisa will be lucky to wear Orange and Black in three years. Speights will be earning his minutes during practice and side work with Moses Malone. No one can tell what the future holds for these two, but hopefully after reading this article you'll have learned a little bit more about both of them.
