$6,000 Offered to Recruit - Coach Claims to Be a Mercenary

Byron De'Vinner, a 7-on-7 coach in Nashville, and is still talking about the developing recruiting scandal involving Mississippi State and possibly other SEC schools.

He told the Daily Journal on Wednesday that MSU freshman Will Redmond was offered $6,000 by Robert Denton Herring - who was disassociated by MSU in July for impermissible contact with a prospect - to "shut down" his recruitment and sign with the Bulldogs.
De'Vinner told the Journal he was unsure whether Redmond accepted Herring's $6,000 offer."From my experience, Will never took it," he said. "That's my understanding, he didn't. I can't say if he did or didn't, because I didn't see it."The coach also alleged to Yahoo! that during Redmond's official visit in mid-January, the prospect told him, "I got to get with Denton, I need some more money."
He told the Tennessee radio station that another BCS school offered Redmond $60,000 to sign w...

Byron De’Vinner, very available for interviews
This is Byron De’vinner, the smoking gun behind the ongoing investigation into some shady Memphis high school recruiting practices, namely those involving the recruitment of Will Redmond by Mississippi State by former coach Angelo Mirando and one of it’s (now disassociated) boosters. De’Vinner appeared on Head to Head Radio and claimed that he had witnessed Redmond being given the ol’ “hundred dollar handshake” by Mississippi State booster Robert Herring while on his visit to Starkville. De’Vinner also claimed that Herring arranged a free stay at a cottage at Old Waverly Country Club and a free meal for De’Vinner that same weekend. Then he went over to Yahoo and gave Pat Forde a few more details, and some receipts. Next he headed over to Nashville radio and claimed that there was more to the story than a couple hundred dollars being offered. Then De’Vinner went and told the Clarion Ledger that Herring attempted to persuade at

Coach: MSU player received money from booster

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- A football coach in Tennessee said he saw Mississippi State freshman defensive back Will Redmond receive money from a booster during the recruiting process.

Byron De'Vinner, who coaches a 7-on-7 team during the summer in Nashville, told the "Head to Head" radio show in Mississippi on Tuesday that he witnessed a "handshake" worth about 200 and that former Mississippi State assistant coach Angelo Mirando knew about the payment.

De'Vinner declined to comment about the interview when reached by The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said Redmond is still practicing with the team, though he hasn't played in a game this season.

"We're not commenting on any of that stuff at this time," Mullen said on Wednesday's Southeastern Conference teleconference.

Mississippi State has not said much at all about Mirando since the receivers coach unexpectedly resigned on Aug. 19.

The university said in a statement at t

Mississippi State May Have Been Giving Hundred Dollar Handshakes

There’s nowhere on the sports interwebs that appreciates a good hundred dollar hand shake like FOTP does, but when it involves Mississippi State and also allows us to promote our buddies at Head to Head Radio…well, all the better. Yesterday H2H had on Byron De’Vinner, a Nashville 7 on 7 coach who claims that he witnessed a booster give Mississippi State DB Will Redmond money, and that it was done with full knowledge by the Mississippi State coaching staff, namely, now-dismissed receiver’s coach Angelo Mirando. The NCAA, as well as several news outlets have been investigating this case, and an article or two is expected later this week.

Morning Playbook - Jilted coach spills beans on Mississippi State booster

Mississippi State just picked up their first win against an SEC West opponent not named Ole Miss with Dan Mullen as head coach last weekend, so you would think things are all smiles this week for the Bulldogs. The news that a booster gave freshman Will Redmond $200 may take away from that sort of buzz, though.

The report comes from a claim from a 7-on-7 football coach in Nashville, Byron De'Vinner, who claims he witnessed money exchange hands between Redmond, a freshman defensive back, and a booster. He made the claim on a radio show in Mississippi yesterday and mentioned a handshake and suggested Mississippi State wide receivers coach Angelo Mirando was aware of the interaction. It is also worth noting that De'Vinner interviewed for a job at Mississippi State in January, and it would seem he clearly did not receive the job he applied for. Is this the case of a rejected candidate exacting some form of revenge out of spite? Or is this a legitimate infraction? The NCAA ...

A football coach in Nashville, Tenn., says he saw Mississippi State freshman defensive back Will Redmond receive money from a booster during the recruiting process.

Byron De'Vinner called in to WXWX radio in Mississippi on Tuesday, saying the ''handshake'' was worth about $200 and that former Mississippi State assistant coach Angelo Mirando knew about the payment Multiple media outlets have reported De'Vinner confirmed he called WXWX's ''Head to Head'' show.

Mirando resigned from his position at Mississippi State on Aug. 19 due to ''unforeseen personal issues.'' The university confirmed on Aug. 23 that it was working with the NCAA regarding a ''potential recruiting irregularity.''

Documents released by the university through a public records request on Aug. 28 revealed the athletic department has disassociated from a booster who made ''impermissible contact'' with a recruit.

Violations and Rumors of Violations

Auburn and Mississippi State have those Memphis Blues again.

Everyone wants to know whats going down on the plains. There has been a rumor going around the web that there will be news coming out soon about recent goings on in Memphis that includes violations stemming from 7 on 7 tournaments and involves Byron De'Vinner who has been a mentor to players such as Jovon Robinson, a previous Auburn player released for academic fraud, and Will Redmond, a Mississippi State player who is possibly being investigated also.
There are also rumors floating around that Jovon Robinson has paid for a Dodge Charger with money from Auburn, but the Robinson family has stated that Jovon's father had passed away and the family was left with a large settlement. There are rumors that Trooper Taylor had a hand in the academic fraud, by persuading an Auburn alumnus to change the grades, and contradicting rumors that say Auburn is who alerted the NCAA about the apparent fraud. There are als...

Mississippi State disassociates from booster

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have disassociated themselves from a booster because of “impermissible contact”.
According to the AP, the booster’s name has been removed from the original documents they were provided after a Freedom of Information Act request was made.

Mississippi State says in the documents that it has asked the disassociated booster to interview with the NCAA, but the booster has declined. It also says that ”other violations of NCAA rules also may have occurred.”
The disassociation letter says the booster is not allowed to participate in any organization that is recognized by Mississippi State as a supporter of the athletics programs, make a financial gift to Mississippi State’s athletics programs or receive any other privileges from the school’s athletics program not given to the general public.

Mississippi State Disassociates a Booster

Mississippi state has disassociated itself from one of its boosters who, according to Inside Mississippi State Sports, made impermissible contact with a recruit. The booster is not named in the documents obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request.

There is no word on whether the type of impermissible contact was a gift of a Ford Mustang.

MSU said last week that it has been working with the NCAA for several months on what the school called a "potential recruiting irregularlity," and ESPN has reported that it involves Mirando. There have also been reports that MSU freshman defensive back Will Redmond is being looked at by the NCAA. MSU also said last week that the NCAA's "examination" was nearing its end
The booster's season tickets and a donation were both refunded by MSU, according to the correspondence. The letter says the booster, as of July 13, had not responded to requests to be interviewed by the NCAA.

Report: NCAA investigating Miss St. (Strange Doings)

((ht: cdispatch.com))

This is interesting on several levels.

According to the Dispatch in Starkville, Mississippi, it appears the NCAA may be investigating Mississippi State over the purchase of a car for incoming freshman DB Will Redmond.

Redmond, who is from the Memphis area, allegedly got a Ford Mustang from a Memphis area used car dealership before he signed with Miss. St. in February.

The investigation forced the sudden resignation of Bulldog assistant Angelo Mirando who supposedly was only involved in the recruitment of one player.

Redmond was recently replaced by former Minnesota Head Coach Tim Brewster.

Read more from the Dispatch RIGHT HERE

The school and coach Dan Mullen haven't said much. They just say they've been cooperating with the NCAA in investigating a potential recruiting irregularity.

There are a couple of things that standout here. One, if Mirando suddenly resigned like this just before the season, something was wrong. Two, where ...

Mississippi State confirms NCAA looking into “recruiting irregularities”

Mississippi State has confirmed that the NCAA is currently investigating them for “recruiting irregularities”.
The Bulldogs’ receivers coach Andgelo Mirando resigned very suddenly early this week, and was replaced by former Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster. Mirando stated that his resignation was for “personal issues”, but it seems at this point there may be more to that than he is letting on.
“I want to stress that these issues are personal,” the now-former assistant said in a statement. “I want to thank my friend and mentor Dan Mullen for giving me this chance.”
Apparently Mirando resigned in the wake of a current investigation into his recruitment of Will Redmond.

Mississippi State has yet to confirm the reporting of Joe Schad, who could blame them, but they did release the statement below.
Over the last several months, Mississippi State has worked in cooperation with the NCAA to examine a potential recruiting irregularity. We are nearing the end of this examination, and it is...
