Can the Angels Afford to Let K-Rod Walk?

At the end of the 2008 season, Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez will be looking for a new contract. Seeing as he'll probably want something in the $14-million+ range, he may not get it from the Angels - especially considering the Yankees are expected to make a strong push for him as the successor to Mariano Rivera (Joba's move to the rotation makes this an even more likely scenario). But can the Angels afford to let K-Rod walk? Unlike many other major league clubs, the Angels aren't familiar with having to find an arm to plug in the closer's role. Before Rodriguez, they had Troy Percival, the Angels all-time saves leader. In fact, it was Rodriguez who essentially pushed Percival out the door. Right now, no one's pushing K-Rod out the door, except of course a few Benjamins. A lot of Benjamins.....

Oakland A's "How Many Hits?"

I may be an Angels fan, but even I have to give the Oakland A's props for their latest promotion. Known as a club hard-pressed to fill seats, the A's are always looking for ways to gather fan interest (especially with the pending move to Fremont). This time around, the A's are running a "How Many Hits?" promotion...

Nick Adenhart to the Angels!

The Angels are not known for rushing young players to the Major Leagues so it is fair to assume that general manager Tony Reagins and manager Mike Scioscia believe Adenhart is ready for the challenge. I don't claim to know anywhere close to what Reagins and Scioscia know about baseball but I have seen two of Adenhart's starts this season for the Salt Lake Bees and I am concerned that he is not ready to be a successful pitcher for the Angels.

Nick Adenhart

by Kevin Mark

According to a report on MLB.com, top pitching prospect Nick Adenhart will begin the season here in Salt Lake. Adenhart is regarded as a top prospect and a key part of the Angels future plans. Over the past winter, Adenhart's name was mentioned in several trade rumors. According to Angels owner Arte Moreno, Adenhart was part of an offer the Angels made for Marlins slugger Miguel Cabrera. I was in favor of including Adenhart in the package to obtain Cabrera but the Marlins chose an offer from the Tigers and Adenhart remains part of the Angels organization.

Angelswin Top 50 Angels Prospects

It's that time of year again when Angelswin.com releases it's Top Prospects List. This year, we've gone from a Top 20 list (2006) to a top 50, with scouting reports for the top 30.

Rather than release the entire list at one time, I'm going to post the scouting reports from the bottom to the top in a 3 week series which will conclude with the top 10 list (10-1) the weekend before Christmas.

Our top prospect list will include Major League Baseball player comparisons, stats, photos (if available) and scouting reports provided by our Angelswin scouts, Eddie Bane & myself. Our rankings are based on ceiling, overall talent & tools, work ethic, age vs. league, 2007 performances and to some level, how quick their ascent to the big leagues may be.
