Barry Bonds becomes the all-time home run king and Boggs hits 3,000th on This Day in Baseball

August 7, 2007 marks a performance enhanced historical moment when Giants slugger Barry Bonds became the all-time home run king when he belted his 756th roundtripper. Bonds hit the milestone homer in the fifth inning into the right-center field bleachers off Mike Bacsik of the Nationals at AT&T Park.
Three historic milestones occur on August 7:
In 2004, Cubs' pitcher Greg Maddux wins his 300th career game, becoming the 22nd member of the 300-Win Club. Maddux defeats the Giants, going five innings and allowing four earned runs at SBC Park in San Francisco.

In 1999, Wade Boggs of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays becomes the first major leaguer to hit a home run for his 3,000th hit. Boggs connects against Chris Haney of the Cleveland Indians just one day after Tony Gwynn collected his 3,000th hit.
And on August 7, 1907, Walter Johnson picks up his first major league victory. The Washington Senators' rookie defeats the Cleveland Indians, 6-2. Johnson will win 417...

Barry Bonds’ Top 10 Moments

On July 24, Barry Bonds celebrated his 48th birthday. Major League Baseball and the San Francisco Giants should be giving Bonds their deepest gratitude. Let’s not forget what the man did despite all of the allegations thrown his way. He was must see tv. You didn’t have to like the guy, but when he came up to the plate, everybody watched. We had no choice, it was almost like breaking news with every at-bat. What was so certain about Barry Bonds was when he approached a milestone and the four letter network broke in to show his live at-bats, he would deliver! Far as allegations of whether or not he took PEDs it is not up to me render a factual verdict. In fact, how can we judge all of these successful ball players breaking these sacred records if MLB allowed it to happen? Ever since the summer of ’98 when Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa brought the game back to the fans, we have been treated to the best offensive explosion in the history of baseball. Fans packed the stands and owners fatten

Rangers Release 40th Anniversary Plans

There's no doubt the past two years of Texas Rangers baseball have been the best of the franchise's existence.
With their first playoff series victory and two straight World Series appearances, the Rangers are in their prime right now, but there were 37 seasons before the two World Series appearances.
When the 2012 season gets underway, the Rangers will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with several announced plans to commemorate the occasion.
The Rangers will have a former player throw out the first pitch prior to every home game, which sounds a little extreme but will be a cool thing for longtime Rangers fans and will give us all the chance to see the likes of Mike Bacsik, Otis Nixon and David Hulse again, hopefully.
The Rangers will also announce an all-time Rangers team selected by fan balloting, which will be announced on Aug. 11.
There will also be a series of games played with throwback uniforms, which is something the Rangers have never been real big on but is al...

In other Washington Nationals Hot Stove news: Mike Bacsik can't spell worth sh*t.

It's a magical night for ex-Nats on Twitter. First, a Dmitri Young/Robert Fick sighting.
And then Mike Bacsik delivers the goods on Twitter. I mean, come on, man. Jason Worth, Strausberg, and Zimmerman all in one Tweet? It's almost like he did it on purpose. Grooved one, even. Oh, wait...
And then old friend Jim Bowden debunking the rumor of the night: that the Nats offered a 6-year deal to C.J. Wilson. We're hearing Jim is right: No offer to Wilson yet. Nats are focused squarely on Buehrle...and Oswalt not really a serious consideration.
Befriend the Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter.
