Interview with MLB Scout Frankie Piliere

I was lucky enough to get the chance to speak with MLB, minor league and amateur scout, Frank Piliere of Saber-Scouting in an interview covering a number of topics including some of the minor league's top talents, some of the Major League's top, young talents and the scout's 20-80 scale. For contractual reasons, Mr. Piliere could not divulge which team he works for, but he specializes in scouting the New York Yankees' and Washington Nationals' farm teams. I'd like to thank Mr. Piliere for taking time out to talk with Baseball Mastermind.

Rotogod Says: Rookies to Keep an Eye on - Wait Until May (21 Games Rule) - Fantasy Baseball 2008

Rotogod here. I feel like Major League Baseball played a trick on fantasy baseball owners this season. What was all that talk about the Tampa Bay Rays moving Akinori Iwamura to second base to clear room for Evan Longoria? Why the heck did the Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals trade Josh Hamilton and Jim Edmonds, their center fielders, to clear room for Jay Bruce and Colby Rasmus only to stifle us with their AAA demotions. Fantasy owners everywhere might be asking themselves why they wasted all their money on Evan Longoria when he wound up getting demoted and how long are owners going to have to wait before he gets promoted to the big league club? The answer: 21 games.

For those of you who play in Dynasty/Keeper Leagues, here is a list of rookies and or minor leaguers who might be worth a bid.

This list mainly applies to deep leagues, but these players should come cheap, and can help lead to a championship down the road.

The qualifications applied here are: any player currently on a team's 40 man roster and eligible for the Rookie of the Year Award.

Rotogod Says: Top-20 30-30 Candidates â€" Fantasy Baseball 2008

I've seen some pretty worthless fantasy baseball lists this off-season: top five first basemen, top-five anything for that matter. I could rattle off a top five left-handed hitting second basemen, but who cares or who needs it?

This is the list of lists, my friends. Today, I will cover the top-twenty power/speed combos in the game. This list will lean towards home run/stolen bases totals and the balance between those two categories, as opposed to either power or speed, so for the sake of the list, Carl Crawford and Jose Reyes are not on the list, nor is Matt Holliday or Carlos Lee. This is the 30/30 list.
