Game 3 of 3 1:05 @ Fenway Park
I missed last night's scintillating, come-from-behind Boston victory, the one where Manny tied the game with a two run homer and minutes later Brandon Moss knocked in the game winning run in a four run eighth inning, due to the fact that [...]

Chalk It Up, Another One For the Good Guys!

Minnesota Twins: No more shines, Sox.

Boston Red Sox: What?

Minnesota Twins: We said, no more shines. Maybe you didn't hear about it, you've been away a long time. They didn't go up there and tell you. We don't shine shoes anymore.

Boston Red Sox: Relax, will ya? Ya flip right out, what's got into you? We're breaking your balls a little bit, that's all. We're only kidding with ya…

Minnesota Twins: Sometimes you guys don't sound like you're kidding, you know, there's a lotta people around…in Fenway.

Boston Red Sox: I'm only kidding with you, we're having a party, we just came home (to Boston) and we haven't seen you guys in a long time and we're breaking your balls, and you're getting fucking fresh. We're sorry, we didn't mean to offend you.

Youkilis exorcises Mike Lowell, possibly saves game

In Monday's loss to the Diamondbacks, when Kevin Youkilis got hit in the eye by a fifth-inning practice throw from Mike Lowell, the Red Sox turned to Brandon Moss as a first-base replacement. Unfortunately Moss, who typically plays the outfield, mishandled a groundball late in that game, which allowed the Diamondbacks to plate their second run. That [...]

Youkilis sent to an eye specialist

After getting hit in the eye with a baseball between innings during last night's game, Kevin Youkilis underwent some tests and they all came back negative for fractures and anything too serious.

Unfortunately his eye was still watering and swollen when he got to Fenway today so the team has sent him to an eye specialist to get it checked out. He won't be starting in tonight's game and probably won't be available to pinch-hit either. Moss will take his place in the lineup and with Sean Casey in the middle of serving his suspension, Alex Cora will serve as the emergency backup if something happens.

Sean Casey drops his suspension appeal

This post is actually from yesterday morning but I forgot to submit it to YB.
--
Sean Casey has officially dropped his suspension appeal and will begin serving his 3 games tonight against the Diamondbacks. I'm not entirely sure of the strategy behind this.

The Diamondbacks will be starting two lefties in this series. The Astros, who we play next, only have 1 left-handed starter. It would make sense for me to have Casey around for this series and then start his suspension in Houston.

The only thing I can think of is that they want him available as a pinch-hitter in an NL park where there is no DH and the entire roster will likely be used.

In the meantime, Kevin Youkilis will make all of the starts at first and Brandon Moss will be the backup. Moss was converted from an OF to a 1B in Pawtucket earlier this year so he's had some experience at the position.

Kevin Youkilis gets hit in the face with a baseball

Kevin Youkilis was hit in the face by a bouncing warm up throw from Mike Lowell before the 5th inning in last night's game. I was at the park and a hush came over the crowd as they immediately thought the worst (the irony is that right before it happened, they played a Tony Conigliaro tribute video at Fenway.) His eye kept getting more swollen with every second that passed so Francona took him out and replaced him at first-base with Brandon Moss.

Luckily they ran a CT scan on his face and it came back negative. If the swelling goes down then he should be a go for tonight's game. If not, then Brandon Moss will more than likely get the start because Sean Casey is still serving his suspension.

Where has the Red Sox outfield gone?

Everyone freaked out before the season started because of the situation in the outfield. Who would start between Coco and Ellsbury? Would Drew return to form? Is Manny healthy enough to play a whole season?

60+ games into the season and this still seems to be the situation. Ellsbury rolled/sprained his wrist last night. Coco potentially got himself suspended for a few days. Manny is battling hamstring issues. The situation was so messed up last night that at one point the outfield consisted of Chris Carter, Drew, and Kevin Youkilis.

Ellsbury will miss tonight's game, and need an MRI if his wrist still hurts tomorrow. Coco will probably play, at least until the suspensions are handed down. Manny will be forced to DH again, if he plays at all. The Sox have also called up outfielder Brandon Moss from Pawtucket (they sent down Chris Carter to do so) as a temporary solution to a potential big time problem.

Papi season rests in a cast

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is now sporting a massive cast on his injured left arm. The currently injury is a partially torn ECU tendon sheath in his left wrist, and the hope is this cast will avoid season-ending surgery. If the cast does its job, Big Papi could be thinking about playing ball again in early July, if not then its ut-oh!

Who Gets the 25th Spot? Moss or Carter?

As the time goes by, it looks more and more like the final roster spot in Boston is coming down to Brandon Moss and Chris Carter. Both players are having strong springs, have had impressive minor league careers, have defensive flexibilities, and sport major league bats. First things first, here is a look at how they are doing this spring

Winter League

Just a quick hit here. The rosters for Winter league have came out and the Sox have 6 players participating. Those players are Ryan Kalish, Daniel Bard, Jason Place, Brandon Moss, Jimmy James, and Argenis Diaz. Kalish and Moss are the big names their. Kalish is a 19 year old kid that did great in Lowell. Sadly, he got hurt and missed a good chunk of the season. Moss is going to practice first. If he makes strides, their is no doubt he is on the 25-man roster come 2008. This could be huge for Place and Bard. They both have tons of talent but have played extremely poorly in the minors. Diaz and James are nothing to get all that excited about, sorry guys. I'll keep you posted on those players as the seasons get underway.
