5/19 Minor League Report! FERNANNNNNNNNNNNNNDO!!!!!!!!!

Buffalo 3, Pawtucket 4
Fernando Martinez hit a pair of homers off Clay Buchholz today, and that should’ve powered the Bisons to victory, and would’ve, if not for the Human Gas Can from Mexico (Carlos Muniz), who gave up a pair in the 8th inning to blow the game. Argenis Reyes also had a multi hit [...]

5/13 Minor League Report! Mejia!

Buffalo 1, Gwinnett 9
Not much to say about this one. The Bisons were bootstomped, right from the outset, with Brandon Knight giving up 5 runs in 5 innings, and then Carlos Muniz putting the game out of reach giving up 4 UER in the 6th. The Bisons were held to 5 hits, by Angel Pagan [...]

5/9 Minor League Report! BOWMAN, PELLOT, DOYLE, Ratliff!

Buffalo 1, Norfolk 5
Kyle Snyder got tagged with the loss, giving up just an UER over 4 innings (thanks to a Jose Coronado error). Carlos Muniz continues to be very subpar in relief for the Bisons, he’s now given up 7 earned runs in his last 3 innings, and has a 7.62 era on the [...]

Buffalo 0, Syracuse 4
It was Dillon Gee’s turn to get shellacked today, as the Bisons lost yet again, their 14th loss in 16 games. Gee gave up 4 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings, taking his 3rd loss. Jon Switzer and Carlos Muniz each pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief, but [...]

Scranton Remains Unbeaten - and Mark Melancon Needs to be Promoted

The Quadruple A Yankees continued their winning ways today as their dominant bullpen shut down the opposition once again. In Buffalo, NY, the Yankees scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning off Mets reliever Carlos Muniz for a 5-3 victory to go 6-0 on the young season.
Austin Jackson led off the top of [...]

Starters cont. to struggle

Another day and another starter struggles, I hope they get it all out of their systems in spring training otherwise we won't need our vaunted bullpen. It sure is quite a statement when the guy called inventory at the start of spring is now pitching like the second best starter on the team. Johan Santana looks brilliant and Livan Hernandez keeps chugging ( seemed like a fitting adjective) along but the rest of the rotation is all over the place. Just two starts ago Pelfrey looked like a 1A...

40 man roster signed....

Mets have signed 13 players who were already on the 40 man roster but weren't arbitration eligible. Brian Stokes, Brandon Knight and Robinson Cancel are out of options and will have to pass through waivers if they don't make the team. Darren O'Day is a major league rule V player and will have to ...

Muniz has a new pitch....

Carlos Muniz was a standout collegiate closer who dominated the lower levels of the minors. But at 27 y/o with less then 30 major league appearances ( ERA 5.63) and a high 3 ERA in AAA last year, you have to wonder whether he will make as a major league reliever. Muniz must be feeling the clock ...

Update on call-up pitchers

While Luis Ayala was giving me agita trying to get the last out of what had become too close a game, Al Reyes was closing out a game in Binghamton. For Reyes it was his third scoreless inning in as many games and his first save. While Ayala showed a lot of resilience to finish off the game I would rather have Reyes experience closing until Wagner returns.... The Zephyrs had several pitchers throwing that could be considered for call-ups. Jon Niese in his warn-up for Tuesday night's start...

Rehab & Minor league update......

For those who say Jon Niese is reaching his max. innings for the year and should be shut down at the end of the Zephyrs season instead of starting his service time early, his last two outings would support that argument. For the second straight outing Niese has allowed four runs this time in six innings, Niese has a record of 4-1 with an ERA of 3.66. Both closing prospects pitched tonight in Carlos Muniz and Eddie Kunz. Muniz finished off the 8th by getting the final ground ball out with runn...

Time To Do Something With Perez?

The Mets designated Claudio Vargas for assignment after last night disgraceful 11-0 loss to the lowly Seattle Mariners. Carlos Muniz was recalled to take his spot on the roster. I don't think this move had much to do with his disappointing performance in last night's game as Vargas had been pitching pretty well before that. Rather I think the Mets may finally be preparing to do something with the starting rotation.

Vargas has been primarily a starter throughout his career so it wou...
