Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings - Running Backs

Week 4, a quarter of the way through the fantasy football season is where we are sitting. Some are riding high, others not so much. That was the story pretty much in Week 3 for the NFL running backs! Willie Parker and Brian Westbrook both suffered injuries, with Parker already being noted as a no-go this Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens. On the other hand you had LaDanian Tomlinson going for a pair of TD's, Frank Gore continuing on his hot streak and Larry Johnson finally putting a solid game together. We do have some bye-weeks this week with Kevin Smith/Rudi Johnson, Joseph Addai, Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams, The New England Patriots crew, Brandon Jacobs and Julius Jones all having the week off. That takes away some pretty good players from the talent pool! With that being said let's hope for a remarkable Week 4 for yourself, as well as Bruno Boys Nation. To make that happen, read through the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings.

Key Abbreviations: YPC (Yards Per Carry), YPG (Yards Per Game)

--------------------

1. LaDanian Tomlinson (San Diego Chargers) @ Oakland

Still showing some signs of an ailing toe, LaDanian Tomlinson did rush 26 times for 67 yards and 2 TD's while adding another 20 yards receiving in week 3. This week he takes on a Oakland Raiders rush defense that has allowed 104 YPG but even more alarming has given up 5 rushing TD's already this season. Everything is aligned for at least similar production to Monday Night's effort.
Point Projection: 24 points

Week 3 Hot Hands and Cold Shoulders

Obviously, things change in fantasy football. There's no Tom Brady, and therefore, no Randy Moss. Offenses in Seattle, Cincinnati and Cleveland are in shambles. Jacksonville keeps turning it over, and the Denver Broncos might have the most explosive offense of 2008.

Shanny, we knew you had it in you. I won't even say that I called it. (I CALLED IT), but it was right there in front of our noses. This year might be a competition between T.O. and Baby T.O. for the top wide receiver spot.

Who else is hot this week? (Well, besides the obvious.)

Hot Hands

J.T. O'Sullivan, Bryant Johnson, Isaac Bruce vs. Lions: We are starting bold. The 49ers face off against Mike Martz's former home. I think Detroit probably knows a lot of Martz's schemes, but Martz also knows how to exploit the Detroit defense — not like that information is really top secret. I like this one to be high scoring and crazy. If you have J.T. O'Sullivan on your roster, this week and next week against the Saints look like his best starts of the year.

Frank Gore vs. Lions: Detroit cannot stop the run. Gore will get some action.

Jon Kitna, Calvin Johnson vs. 49ers: An explosive contest and a weak secondary make the interception-prone QB a nice play this week.

All Your Broncos vs. Saints: Jay Cutler and his boys manhandled the Chargers defense last week. They'll do the same to the Saints. Brandon Marshall could break the record for most receptions in a game in this one. I like it. The only exception to this rule is Selvin Young, who might be only a yardage guy from here on out.

My Fantasy Team Did Insane this Past Week!!! Justin Tuck!!

Good evening commisioner. Well I am the commissioner of my fantasy league and I think I had one of the best weeks for a fantasy team. In my bizzare league of 16 teams their are individual offense players, one Defense and individual defensive players. The points system is a bit generous compared to what most people do it by but that doesnt mean its out of wack. Last week someone lost by 1 pt, 235 to 234. And their is bonuses added on when a certain amount of yards is reached for each position. With that I got the highest point total in the week at 317.

I

I have Ray Lewis, Matt Cassel, Derrick Ward, Ronnie Brown, Jaguars D on the bench.......

Fantasy Football Week 2 Waiver Wire

Every week there are players at each position that step up and perform at a high level, thus earning consideration in the fantasy football world. Often times fantasy league are won because of an owner doing their research and picking up a player on the waiver wire. With that in mind check out the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 2 Waive Wire Report...

--------------------

QUARTERBACKS

J.T. O'Sullivan (San Francisco 49ers)

After looking more like the offense of old in Week 1, the 49ers made adjustments and had a field day in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. The offense totaled 365 yards from scrimmage and was led by a superb passing day from O'Sullivan. He finished the day 20 of 32 for 321 passing yards and a TD. The TD pass was the first of his 7 year career. With matchups against the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints on the horizon, you can expect O'Sullivan to be a hot waiver wire pickup. O'Sullivan should be targeted by owners who have had the likes of Marc Bulger, Carson Palmer, David Garrard and Derek Anderson on their roster. You shouldn't drop those sturggling QB's, but plan accordingly.

--------------------

RUNNING BACKS

Pierre Thomas (New Orleans Saints)

When you look at the box score his numbers don't jump out at you, but Pierre Thomas will play a big role in the New Orleans Saints offense moving forward. He scored on one-yard touchdown run and caught two balls out of the backfield for 29 yards. With the Saints primarily using Reggie Bush as a wide receiver, you can expect Thomas to continue to get significant playing time. With that being said, the Saints offense still has plenty of weapons and Thomas' value is more of a RB4 or if he is used as a handcuff to Bush.

Giants Take the Horns out the Rams and Make em Look Like Sheep...41-13!!

I know its the Rams but this is the NFL where anything can happen. That being said what my title says is what the Giants did on the field. It was not close at all even in the fourth quarter with the score 20-13 (GIANTS). The Giants just blew it away like Hurricane Ike blew away part of Reliant Stadium down in Texas. Justin Tucks interception was insane, and definietly top play. Torry Holt's TD was amazing as well...Expect both plays on ESPN tonight

Heres a list of observations:

was this game close. Yes when it was 0-0

was this game fun to watch. Yes.

Giants O-Line- Needs lots of Love

3RB- Giants RB deepest in league without ?

Chris Long- Congrats on your first sack in the NFL

Is Justin Tuck for Real. Yes

Eli Manning- he threw a pass left handed which was hilarious and tripped on his own feet. Besides that solid game for Mr. Toyota.

Amani Toomer- Played another good game, one of the most underrated recievers in the NFL

Giants Depth in WR--is bountiful

41-13 the final score of Giants Vs. Rams. And I really feel bad for the Rams and their coaching staff. Linehan looked so amped up after each time they scored and then Giants would just show why they are a much better team. The Rams are really a bad team but I hope all turns out well in the coming weeks. Bulger getting decked every play and Jackson playing tough but nothing showing for it. The Rams looked like last years Giants but then again they dont have the tools like last yrs Giants to go to the Superbowl

With that my Giants are 2-0 and thats a wrap like Christmas MofUC&A$

NFL PREVIEW: NEW YORK GIANTS

All of the other Carnies are too sick of your act to write this preview. So it's left to your old pal Shooter, fresh from making your sad-sack cross-town Jets cousins cry by daring to impugn the reputation of Jets Quarterback, to slog through the sorriest title defense this side of Buster Douglas. Let's get to it, shall we?

Has anything gone right for the Giants since Eli to Helmet? You could make an argument that, well, no, nothing has. Michael Straham went off into the sunset when the G-Men didn't bank the truck up to bring him back. Osi Umenyiora was lost for the year in the continuing travesty that is pre-season football. Gibril Wilson took mad money to go west, leaving the suspect secondary a little more suspect. That's three plus players gone from a defense that wasn't all that great (see last year's regular season games against the Cowboys, where the wideouts were passing out batons, for reference) until the stretch run magic.

Oddly, I think this works out for the G-Men, in that very few people outside of the Apple are really expecting a title defense. The consensus pick is that the Cowboys have added talent to a star-heavy lineup, and that the Eagles are more dangerous with a last-place schedule. (No one is taking the Skins seriously, given how awful they've looked in the pre-season and the unprecedented experiment that is Jim Zorn.) There's a very real chance that the G-Men will fly under the radar to a double-digit win year, especially if Manning can pick up where he left off after last year's playoffs.

The schedule helps... a little. They start off easy, with Washington, St. Louis, Cincy and the bye. It's hard to imagine them not being 2-1 or 3-0 after that, but they'll have to be. After the early bye (never a plus), they get Seattle at home, then Cleveland on the road and San Fran at home. With any kind of luck, they'll be 5-1 or 4-2, if not even undefeated.

But then it gets nasty, with a road date in Pittsburgh, the Cowboys at home, the Eagles on the road, Baltimore at home and at Arizona and Washington. If they need to do more than split the final four games (Philly, at Dallas, Carolina, at Minnesota), it's easy to see them on the outside looking in.

Fantasy Sleeper: Manning. In a deep year for quarterbacks, Manning gets short shrift, but if his defense is worse this year -- and it will be -- he's going to be in more shootouts. Combine this with Brandon Jacobs probably gripping too hard in a contract year, and you can really see him airing it out early and often... especially if Burress is finally over the ankle issues.

Bonus Sleeper: Kevin Boss, TE. Another victim of a deep pool, which means you should be able to get him in a back-up position without any kind of trouble at all. Manning has shown his fondness for the tight end in the pass, and Boss will never get prime attention from the opponent.

Fantasy Death: Jacobs. He's in a contract year, which means you'll have to pay too much to get him from people who are anticipating more effort for the moolah. He's also in a situation where the backups (Ahmad Bradshaw and Derrick Ward) were nearly as good as him on a per-carry basis, and he's also been injury prone in the past. Add it up, and you're looking at paying starter prices for a committee back.

Real-world prediction: Even though the Giants are very good on personnel (look at all of the rookies that contributed to last year's team), there's just too many things that went right for them last year to imagine that it's all going to repeat. I don't think they'll fall apart, but I do think they'll just miss this year... and that Giants Fan won't really mind that much, given that the memories of Eighteen And One Very Big One will keep them warm at night. For the rest of their lives, really. 8-8.

Get wireless AMBER Alerts on your phone.

Giants Lose to Jets 10-7

The 2008 installment of the annual Giants/Jets preseason rivalry unfolded like a plodding heavyweight club fight between two palookas who know how to throw a punch but also know how to take one as well. The Giants, who were playing their second game in six days — this time without defensive leader Antonio Pierce — lost the split decision 10-7. Plaxico Burress didn't play — what else is new — and, although Amani Toomer started he was very quickly replaced by Domenick Hixon who, again, had a fine showing.
During the 1st half, neither team could mount anything offensively. The Jets due to a load of penalties — 12 penalties on the night — including one that negated a beautiful TD pass from Brett Favre. But, the Jets pass rush was a factor all 1st half — helped by a blown blitz pickup by Brandon Jacobs. The Giants had only one sustained drive toward the end of the first half but Eli Manning held onto the ball too long on 3rd down and took a terrible 16 yard sack by Calvin Pace — who was very disruptive all night. This left the Giant's with a 42 yard FG opportunity which Josh Huston promptly blew, wide right. If Tynes doesn't get back to soon, look for the Giants to bring in a couple of kickers.

But, by far, the most dramatic — and possibly disastrous — play of the first half for the Giants was the injury to Osi Uminiora who went down rushing Brett Favre. He seemed go down courtesy of a D'Brickashaw Ferguson shove but got back up, continued his rush, then went down again and eventually had to be taken off the field on a golf cart. Initial reports indicate he couldn't bend his knee or put weight on it but it doesn't appear to be a ligament tear. Tests will have to done. Once he went out, the pass rush definitely suffered. The rush defense, however, remained stout throughout whether it was the 2nd or even the 3rd units.
The second half between the Giants and Jets 2nd and 3rd teams was also a defensive struggle. Kellen Clemens started the 2nd half for the Jets and, in spite of four procedure penalties managed to mount a 16 play drive that resulted in a field goal. The Giants later scored on a short Ahmad Bradshaw run after a Renaldo Wynn interception on a zone blitz. The veteran defensive end dropped back into coverage and pulled down his first pick ever. The Giants couldn't get anything else going throughout the rest of the half though because the Jets pass rush consistently harried the Giant's quarterbacks who often held the ball too long — primarily David Carr.
After a terrible Jeff Feagles punt — his only bad one of the night — the Jets took over in Giants territory and Brett Ratliff, shaking off his earlier pick by Wynn, tossed a 24 yard TD pass to rookie Paul Raymond, putting Jets up 10-7. Rookie Andre Woodson came in after Carr for the Giants in the 4th quarter but couldn't put any points on the board. By the way, he still looks like he has a definite 'hitch' in his delivery. All in all it was a pretty forgettable game for the Giants but, on the positive side, a lot of the youngsters looked good. Mario Mannigham caught 3 passes for 41 yards and Domenick Hixon caught 3 passes for 51 yards. Ahmad Bradshaw ran well and Kenny Phillips flashed on a few plays.
