Wisconsin 38, Purdue 14

Montee Ball ran for a career-high 247 yards and scored three touchdowns to help Wisconsin beat Purdue 38-14 on Saturday afternoon.

James White added 124 yards rushing for the Badgers (5-2, 2-1 Big Ten), who outgained Purdue 645 yards to 252. The Badgers pounded out 467 yards rushing in the rain.

Ball moved past Texas Tech's Taurean Henderson and now is alone in third place in NCAA history with 72 total career touchdowns.

Akeem Hunt ran for 85 yards and a touchdown for Purdue. The Boilermakers (3-3, 0-2), who were coming off a 44-13 loss to Michigan, travel to Ohio State next week.

The win gives Wisconsin a favorable position in the Big Ten's Leaders Division, especially since Ohio State and Penn State cannot qualify for the conference title game because of NCAA rules violations.

There were plenty of empty seats at Ross-Ade Stadium, and that number grew as the rain and Wisconsin's lead increased.

Purdue used three quarterbacks, and none were effective. Starter Caleb TerBush and backups Robert

Linebeackers lead the way for UW vs. Illinois

MADISON, Wis. The Wisconsin of old might not be coming back this season, but at least the Badgers discovered considerable improvement during Saturday's 31-14 victory against Illinois.Wisconsin ran the ball well to establish the play-action pass, and the Badgers' defense kept the Illini in check in critical situations. If the season ended today and of course there are still six weeks remaining Wisconsin would actually represent the Leaders Division in the Big Ten championship. Saturday's victory puts Wisconsin ahead of Purdue, Illinois and Indiana, at least temporarily in the race for the division title. Penn State and Ohio State are ineligible this year for the postseason. Here are five things we learned about Wisconsin from Saturday's game:1. The Badgers possess one of the best linebacker units in the countryMost college football fans probably knew about the tackling prowess of linebackers Mike Taylor and Chris Borland. Neither has disappointed this season. But few likely knew about the team

Sooners hoping to end struggles in Lubbock

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Needing a win to right what critics say is a sinking ship, Oklahoma's first preference probably wouldn't be a trip to Texas Tech.
More often than not in recent years, strange things have happened when the Sooners visit Lubbock. The Red Raiders haven't lost at home to Oklahoma (2-1, 0-1 Big 12 Conference) since 2003. And the Tech hex spread to Norman last year, when an unheralded squad knocked off the Sooners 41-38, snapping Oklahoma's 39-game home winning streak.
To be fair, Oklahoma has had some big wins over Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0) in recent years, most notably in 2008, when the Sooners won 65-21 en route to reaching the BCS national championship game. But there's little doubt the 17th-ranked Sooners will be challenged Saturday to avoid losing consecutive games in the same season for the first time since 2003, when they fell to Kansas State in the Big 12 title game, then to LSU in the championship game.

OU, Tech trade kicks to the keister

Lately, Texas Tech and Oklahoma have been thorns in each other's keisters. But it hasn’t always been that way.

When the rivalry began in 1992, Gary Gibbs’ third year, the Sooners won the first three meetings, 34-9, 41-10 (1993 John Hancock Bowl) and 17-11 (in 1994).

The teams were aligned into the Big 12 Conference in 1996, and the Red Raiders got their first win, 22-12, in Norman in John Blake’s first year. As horrible as Blake was as a head coach, he did manage to win the next two years over Tech. The 20-17 victory in 1998 was Blake’s last as OU bounced him out on his keister.

Bob Stoops was hired to bring the Sooner program out of darkness in 1999. Tech capitalized on two OU turnovers for 10 points, which was the difference in the Red Raiders’ 38-28 victory that year. Tech scored 25 unanswered points in the second half of what was the final game for Spike Dykes as head Raider.

Mike Leach, who served as OU’s offensive coordinator in 1999, was hired to succee...

College Football Opening Night: The Main Event, Everyone Say Arrrgh!

We’ve already looked at opening night’s undercards for this evening. We spotlighted a key swing game in the SEC East race that, yes, includes the up-and-coming Vanderbilt Commodroes. While there is entertainment value in all those contests, it’s not tonight’s Main Event: The Return of the Pirate. Anybody who is a college football junkie who lives and breathes this sport 24/7 year round has to be totally lathered up over seeing Mike Leach back on the sidelines as head coach of Washington State tonight when the Cougs take on BYU in Provo.
We all know Leach’s story. He put together an insane, petal-to-metal, four vertical offense that nearly lifted little old Texas Tech to the top of the Big 12. While he never won the league, he always had winning teams, he always had his club at the very least in the top half of the league and, most importantly, they were always entertaining and worth watching. Playing a patsie? You just had to tune in to see what 60 points and 600 yards in passing offense looked like

Hump Day With Huddy - Pumped Edition

Good morning and Happy Hump Day, Cougs! We are now T-minus one week from Signing Day 2012, which means we are T-minus eight days away from once again becoming functional members of society. I know that recruiting is at the forefront of everyone's minds and being a man of the people that's exactly what I'll talk about today. The WSU Recruiting Class of 2012 is starting to look something like the finished product it will be so it's high time to take a good look at the group of commitments with the hard hitting analysis (read: none) that you can only find on This Here Blog (read: because I'm "special"). I am thrilled that today's post marks the debut of the Bridgeport Pumped-O-Meter to rate every one of our current verbal commitments. What is the Bridgeport Pumped-O-Meter, you ask? There's only one way to find out my friends. My saddle's waiting. Come on and jump on it...
