Bears place Bush on IR with rib injury

The Chicago Bears have placed running back Michael Bush on season-ending injured reserve because of a rib injury and signed Kahlil Bell to take his place.

Losing Bush is another blow for the struggling Bears. They've dropped five of six after a 7-1 start and are coming off a loss to Green Bay that clinched the NFC North for the Packers.

Chicago needs help to make the playoffs after leading the division for much of the season, and losing Bush does not make things any easier.

Signed to a four-year deal to give the Bears depth in the backfield with Matt Forte, Bush appeared in 13 games and ran for 411 yards and five touchdowns. Bell was waived by Chicago in October.

The moves were announced on Tuesday.

Michael Bush reportedly has a shoulder injury

According to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune, Bears running back Michael Bush has a shoulder injury. It’s reportedly his AC joint that’s been affected.
McClure says that Bush wouldn’t confirm the injury. We’ll monitor his status leading up to this week’s game.

Michael Bush is not a starting RB in the NFL

Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte may miss time due to a high ankle sprain sustained against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football, but Michael Bush has a history of coming off the bench and performing well.
The Oakland Raiders have been known for having one of the most explosive running backs in the NFL in Darren McFadden, but McFadden has a history of getting injured. Michael Bush had to save the day in those years and be the ‘go to’ running back, which he has done with the Raiders since 2009. Bush started seven games for the Raiders in 2009, three in 2010 and nine in 2011. He averaged 4.2 YPC and performed adequate in each outing in which he started.… Read more

Chicago Bears Film Evaluation: RB Michael Bush

What type of player did the Chicago Bears get when they signed Michael Bush to a four year contract in March? There's a lot of misconceptions on what type of player Bush is and what type of player he can be in Chicago.
Is Bush the type of player who can come in and be a starter if Forte decides to hold out part of the season? To answer those questions I broke Bush's game on tape as an Oakland Raider to find out what precisely the Bears have in the 6-foot-1 240-pound running back.

Strengths:
Michael Bush is a big running back and he runs hard and is pretty fast and nimble for his size. He has good vision to the hole and good cutback ability for a player of his size. He can accelerate through the hole that he sees and pick up positive yards. He played in an inside-zone rushing offensive in Oakland much like he will here in Chicago and performed above average in that offense.
Bush has quick feet and soft hands and can make people miss better than most running back...

Bears' Bush showing unexpected skills as receiver

One of the early positive elements of the Chicago Bears' workouts, perhaps even an epiphany of sorts to some coaches, has been the performance of tailback Michael Bush as a receiver. The four-year veteran, signed from Oakland as an unrestricted free agent and presumptive backup to franchise tailback Matt Forte, has caught the ball well. There were some concerns as the Bears install the offense that is designed by new coordinator Mike Tice that the team might miss the receiving skills of Forte, who remains unsigned and is sitting out the OTA sessions. But Bush has been a bit of a revelation so far. He's not Forte, admittedly, but not bad, either. In his four seasons with the Raiders, Bush wasn't often utilized as a receiver out of the backfield, and he registered just 91 catches for his career. Part of that, of course, was that Bush was not a full-time starter. Still, after averaging only 18.0 receptions his first three years, Bush had a career-best 37 catches...

Michael Bush signs with Bears

The continual question of whether Michael Bush may come back to the Raiders was answered today when Bush signed a 4 year, $14 million contract with the Chicago Bears.
Bush was vocal about wanting to go to a team where he could be a starter but he found that the market for older running backs is fairly low. In the end he signed a contract that was worth $7 million guaranteed and up to $3.5 million a season.
The Raiders weren't going to spend the amount of money the Bears put out and therefore even if Bush were inclined to come back to the team that drafted him in the 4th round, they weren't likely to pay him anything close to what he was looking for.
The Raiders are likely to find a replacement backup running back in the draft or by signing an undrafted free agent.

Forte not happy with Bush signing

Today the Chicago Bears announced the signing of Michael Bush, formerly of the Raiders, who has been one of the best backup running backs in the NFL for several years now.
According to Brad Briggs of the Chicago Tribune, Bush was signed to a four-year contract worth $14 million, with $7 million guaranteed.
This gives the Bears one of the most potent and proven 1-2 backfield punches in the NFL with Bush and incumbent starter Matt Forte. You might think Forte would be happy about this improvement in the Bears’ backfield.
You’d be wrong.

Not long after the signing of Bush was announced, the following three tweets came out of Forte’s account. The first two are retweets; the third one, at the top, is Forte writing himself.

As everyone remembers from last year, Forte wants a new contract. Given his production, and the short shelf life of running backs, most folks think that the Bears should pay him. Greg Olsen, now a player for the Panthers but Forte’s former teammate in Chicago...

APNewsNow. The Chicago Bears have agreed to a four-year contract with running back Michael Bush.

Bush will join Matt Forte, who got a franchise tag from the Bears, in Chicago's backfield.

Bush played four seasons for the Oakland Raiders, gaining 2,642 yards (4.2 yards per carry) and scoring 21 touchdowns. The powerful 245-pound back had his most productive season in 2011, setting career highs in rushes (256), yards (977), touchdowns (7), receptions (37) and yards receiving (418).

He mostly was a backup to Darren McFadden but had nine starts last season when McFadden was injured.

Mike Bush Signs With The Chicago Bears

According to ProFootballTalk.com, former Cardinal running back and Louisville native Michael Bush has signed with the Chicago Bears. Bush spent his entire career with the Oakland Raiders and became a free agent at the end of last season. He has visited numerous teams over the past few weeks including the Bengals and Seahawks. Bush and the Bears agreed on a $14 million contract with $7 million of that guaranteed. At an average of $3.5 million a year, that’s the best deal a free-agent running back has received this year.
The Chicago Bears just became one of my favorite NFL teams.

Seattle Seahawks to bring in RB Michael Bush on Tuesday

On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks signed free agent QB Matt Flynn to a deal, but it appears that they are not through in free agency yet. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are going to bring in free agent RB Michael Bush on Tuesday for an interview. This is somewhat of a surprising move. The Seahawks just gave RB Marshawn Lynch a four-year contract extension.
Schefter tweets, “After adding QB Matt Flynn, the Seahawks have scheduled a visit Tuesday for Raiders RB Michael Bush. TE Jacob Tamme also to visit Seattle.” Lynch was just signed to a four-year $32 million dollar extension.
This free agency season has been very slow for veteran running backs. Peyton Hillis signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs worth a reported $2.6 million dollars. Bush has not garnered serious interest in this free agency period. The Cleveland Browns are in need of a running back but have shown little interest in Bush. Instead, the Browns have been rumored to be intereste...

Could Michael Bush come back to Raiders?

2012 free agency is now approaching a week old and Michael Bush's interest on the market has been tepid, at best. It was stated that he was going to visit the Bears and the Bengals but neither has signed him at this time.
One theory, per PFT, is that the new rookie wage scale makes veterans RBs less valuable but I'm not sure that I agree with that logic. While the new rookie wage scale does slot rookies into affordable contracts outside of the first round there isn't much changed - players in later rounds were already slotted into a reasonable range.

More likely it simply is a continuation of what clubs have been doing for years - a RB in his upper 20's isn't considered valuable for a long term contract unless he's elite. Players who are not elite frequently have to sign contracts for 1 year deals because clubs aren't interested in taking a long term risk on them.
With all this being said, I think it's possible that Bush comes back to the Raid...

He came into the league in 2008 and if he signed with the Bears would be a major upgrade over Marion Barber behind starter Matt Forte. The Bears have two free agent RBs on the roster, Forte who has been given the franchise tag, and restricted free agent Khalil Bell who was given a matching contract tender offer.
With Mike Martz moving on the Bears have mentioned going to a heavier rushing attack approach with new OC Mike Tice. Bush would seem to fit the bill as a quality backup to Forte who would be a good short yardage option and touchdown machine. In addition to be a short yardage specialist, Bush could keep Forte fresh.
