Fantasy Football - Committing to a Running Back By Committee

So how do we beat the RBBC conundrum? Knowledge! I know, I sound like a bad public service announcement but in fantasy football, knowledge really is power. And there's just not enough info out there on all the various committees. I applaud the few sites out there that have attacked the RBBC analysis...though I can't say I really blame the experts out there for not wanting to talk about them. But now it's time we face committees head on and do our best to take a gamble and figure out which guys might pull to the front of the committee battles. Trust me, some of those guys might even be a top 10 back by the time the season is over.

With that being said, let's take a look at 3 under-discussed teams and their backfield situation heading into 2008:

Fantasy football drafts are right around the corner, so who looks to be the hits and misses? This guide's a long read, but it's in-depth, and it channels the wayback machine for some who are older than they'd like to admit (or buy lots of old DVDs).

Travis Henry and marijuana just fit, folks

According to a FOX affiliate in Colorado, former Broncos' running back Travis Henry has tested positive again for the hippie juice and faces a possible one-year suspension from the NFL (again). Considering the Broncos produce 1,000-yard rushers like Henry produces babies, the team was wise to dump this clown when they did.

Chris Johnson: Future primary back?

As a result of being a first round pick, high expectations have been firmly placed upon the shoulders of Chris Johnson. His ability to make plays running, receiving and returning the football will be counted on heavily as the Titans look to improve an offense searching for playmakers.

Despite his small stature, Johnson packs a powerful punch. According to his draft profile, Chris has room on his frame to carry at least another 10 pounds of bulk without sacrificing his elite speed and quickness.

Could Johnson follow in the footsteps of other smallish backs who became every down RB's such as Brian Westbrook and Willie Parker?

2008 Bruno BoysFantasy Football Notes - Denver Broncos

Before the Denver Broncos even reported to training camp in 2007, they were already dealing with major adversity. Unfortunately, starting cornerback Darrent Williams was shot outside of a Denver nightclub and just six weeks later running back Damien Nash collapsed and died during a charity basketball event.

Despite the tragic losses, the Broncos still had high hopes of making it to the postseason for the third time in the past 4 seasons. They went out and signed Travis Henry in attempt to beef up the running game, had started to groom quarterback Jay Cutler and...

Was Travis Henry Ever Committed?

The story should not be that Mike Shanahan and the front office released Henry.

It should, instead, be why the Broncos even signed the troubled back to a lucrative long-term contract in the first place.

Previous signs of "lack of commitment" were evident well before Henry inked his 2007 free agent contract.

Broncos release Travis "The Baby Maker" Henry

The Denver Broncos released running back Travis Henry on Monday. Selvin Young will open training camp as the Broncos' No. 1 back.

"We did not feel his commitment to the Broncos was enough to warrant a spot on this football team," coach Mike Shanahan said in a written statement.

"Although Travis has the ability to be one of the top running backs in the NFL, we have to make decisions that are in the best interests of our organization and its goal of winning a Super Bowl," Shanahan said.

Now that Henry will have more free time on his hands, he can get back to doing what he does best: making babies.

JP's Fantasy Spin: With Henry surprisingly out of the picture, the next guy in line is probably Selvin Young, who showed some serious flashes in his rookie season. He rushed for 729 yards (5.2 ypc) and caught 35 passes for another 231 yards. Also, keep an eye on where Henry lands. Skeletor is right, he's a talented back, but he doesn't seem to have his head on straight. If he lands in the right spot, he could be a good #2 fantasy back.

Could Travis Henry return to the Titans?

Denver's decision to sign veteran free agent RB Michael Pittman yesterday could usher in the release of former Titan Travis Henry. Henry, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, may be expendable as a result of the acquisition of Pittman and the development of young RB's Selvin Young and Ryan Torain.

If last week is any indication, the Titans appear to be interested in attaining a veteran running back to pair with their young stable of runners. If Henry is released, the Titans should consider bringing him back to Nashville.

AFC West Running Backs from an Oakland Raiders' eye view

Yesterday, we looked at the quarterbacks of the AFC West. The AFC West is a rushing division. The Bronco running back factory, LaDainian Tomlinson and Larry Johnson have been joined by the Oakland Raiders' three headed rushing attack of Justin Fargas, Michael Bush, and Darren McFadden. How do these rushing teams stack up against one another?
