Per Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com (with a tip of the hat to Kurupt), the Buffalo Bills on Monday worked out six defensive linemen, including former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Ed Johnson.
Normally, routine Monday player workouts don't interest me. Johnson is an interesting case, however. Buffalo currently has the NFL's worst run ...

Oehser on Examiner: Release of DT Ed Johnson directly related to weight, Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian says

The Indianapolis Colts last Wednesday released DT Ed Johnson, a move that surprised not only Colts fans, but his teammates as well.
On Monday night, Colts President Bill Polian addressed the move.
Speaking on his weekly radio show on 97.1 Hank FM in Indianapolis, Polian spoke in detail on Johnson, saying that “sadly for him,” the third-year [...]

A difference of opinion

With no game this week to distract us, all we have to talk about is Ed Johnson. What's interesting is how two of the primary sources for Colts information differ in their opinions of the move to release Big Ed.
First note how Oehser handles his surprise:

One thing that really wasn't discussed by Colts players or Caldwell were a couple of fairly obvious questions -- one being, 'If Johnson was playing poorly enough to be released why was he starting?' and the other being &q...

Oehser on Examiner: Release of DT Ed Johnson makes for emotional day for Indianapolis Colts

They will move forward. And they will do so successfully. If there was a consensus among the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive players on Wednesday — the strangest day to date of an otherwise comparatively smooth, happy season — that was it.
Wednesday wasn’t smooth around the Colts’ Westside Indianapolis complex. Far from it. It was difficult. It was shocking. It was confusing.

So imagine my surprise on a late Tuesday afternoon, about to take a shower and scurry off to a dinner date with a couple friends, and the phone rings.

The Colts had reportedly released DT Ed Johnson, again.

Hmmmmm.

Most are well aware of Johnson's checkered past. He had trouble in college. He was cut last year after one game because of an arrest for marijuana possession while he was speeding around town.

Anybody says they are surprised, well, perhaps we shouldn't be. But, honestly...

Johnson, who was released by the team following a marijuana-related arrest early last season, re-signed this past offseason shortly after the 2009 NFL Draft. He served a one-game suspension and had started the last four games.

The Star reported that the Colts had no comment on the move.

Oehser on Examiner: Why DT Ed Johnson means so much to the Indianapolis Colts

The best player on the Indianapolis Colts' defense smiled this week when the topic of Ed Johnson arose, the reason for which was two-fold. One, Dwight Freeney -- the aforementioned best player -- very much likes Johnson, and the four-time Pro Bowl defensive end has been vocally supportive of the younger player since Johnson returned to the Colts shortly following last offseason's NFL Draft.

The other reason? Well, it's entirely possible and even ...
