Fantasy Football Sleeper Rankings - Quarterback Sleepers

Having not one, but two quality quarterbacks on your roster can help drive you to the playoffs and even a championship, so it's important you evaluate all the quarterbacks and not just concern yourself with the top 10 arms. Luckily, the Bruno Boys help do that for you and below have identified our favorite sleepers and undervalued players at the quarterback position. Two are league veterans poised for a big rebound after injury-riddled seasons last year, while the other two are young guns looking to take the next step.

Breaking Down 2008 Fantasy Football by Position

It?s late July and that means fantasy football is getting ready to kick off.. Some players are going to come out of nowhere and flat out dominate. Some older players who used to be studs will fall off and some players will be affected by a coaching staff change or a quarterback that leaves town. It is all ways wise to do some research before walking into a draft.
The NFL is a copy cat league and there are some trends popping up fantasy owners should keep their eyes on. First running back by committee a lot have teams have made the switch. Darren McFadden or Justin Fargas would be fine backs to have but both players will split time at least early on and they will take carries away from each other. The only team that can pull that off is Jacksonville Fred Taylor and MJD are both worthy of consideration. When looking for a back stay away from Denver, Miami, Tampa Bay, Tennessee and Detroit.
The fullback is dead and has given birth to the slot receiver. Wes Welker redefined the position last year and put up crazy fantasy numbers. Expect more teams to follow the trend. If you have a receiver go down to injury or some of them end up on the same bye week you can find value on the waiver wire. The third wide out on a pass happy team won?t be a long term solution but can get you by in a stop gap situation.
Last but not least teams that have classified their quarterbacks as game managers are teams that don?t have a fantasy worthy quarterback. Game Manager means 10 of 17 passing 123 yards and no touchdowns. When you think game manager think Damon Huard. Be aware of the unstable quarterback situations in Chicago, Kansas City, Minnesota, Baltimore and San Francisco.

2008 NFL Rookie Report - Wide Receivers

Wide receivers, more than any other position, have the most trouble adjusting to the NFL game. Cornerbacks at the pro level are just quicker, stronger, and smarter than at the college level. Still, every year one or two rookie wide receivers emerge and have an immediate impact in fantasy football circles (ala Dwayne Bowe). To help you identify the rookies with the greatest potential for success in 2008, Bruno Boys staff writer Cory Steger has done his homework and presents to you the 2008 Wide Receiver Rookie Report.

Top 15 Projected Receiving TD leaders

Last year, fans and fantasy owners witnessed a veritable aerial assault across the NFL.

Ten wide receivers corralled 10 or more touchdown receptions, led by Randy Moss' record-breaking total of 23. By way of contrast, only six running backs amassed 10 or more touchdowns on the ground. The proliferation of specialist roles akin to those of middle relievers and closers in baseball, as well as the growth of committee situations, has split up the carries and goal-line glory. That's not the case in the air. Your fantasy heroes continue to add to their trophy cases and your highlight-watching pleasure.

I begin this review of touchdown heroes with the aforementioned Moss, who rewarded gutsy fantasy owners with a season for the ages in 2007.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers - Big Dogs

Big Dogs
The beauty about the WR position is there are more Big Dogs than any other position. For that reason, many fantasy footballers are contemplating grabbing stud WRs in the middle-to-late first round and early second round rather than mindlessly taking the best RB available. With that in mind, let's take a look at who those characters are.

Randy Moss - How can you start anywhere else after the historic season Moss produced last year? The thing that worries me about Moss is he looked vulnerable to physical play during the playoffs. If you're expecting another 23 TDs, you'll be disappointed.

Terrell Owens - So far so good in Big D for MeO, I mean T.O. As long as he's happy, he'll continue to produce in bunches. I can see T.O. lead all WRs in scoring this year.

Reggie Wayne - Well, he officially surpassed Marvin Harrison as the Top Dog in Indy, and I don't see that changing any time soon. You can pretty much pencil him in for 1300 yards and 10 TDs. How many RBs can you say that with? That's why he's a safer pick than a Clinton Portis or Willis McGahee.

Braylon Edwards - Braylon finally showed why he was a 3rd pick last year scoring 16 TDs. I don't see him reaching paydirt quite as often, especially with the addition of Donte Stallworth, but double-digits isn't out of the question.

Andre Johnson - He averaged close to 95 yards and nearly a TD a game last year. That translates to 1500 yards and 14 TDs. Will he reach those lofty numbers? I doubt it, but he'll come close if he gets a full season in.

Larry Fitzgerald - I am a huge fan of Fitzy. He just seems to get it. Must be his Minnesota ties. Every other year he gets 1400 yards and 10 TDs. If he can avoid his even-year slump, he'll be worth his weight in gold again for fantasy owners.

Steve Smith - Here's a guy who NEEDS his QB to stay healthy. He's had two down years (compared to his 2005 masterpiece), but he still has what it takes to be an elite WR in this league. If Delhomme goes down, he could easily lose his Big Dog status.

Chad Johnson - Ocho Cinco had 1440 yards and 8 TDs last year. Unfortunately his TDs came in just 4 games last year. That's what bugs me about Ocho. His end of the year stats look great, but he's not as solid week-to-week like some of the Big Dogs. His contract situation is a little scary, but I think he'll play.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh - Unlike Ocho, Housh likes to spread the wealth out during his season. He scored a TD in his first 8 games last year. He's not going to wow you with big yardage (only three weeks over 100 and none after Wek 6), but you'll be happy with his production.

Marques Colston - I was tempted to put him a tier lower, but his improvement on an already outstanding rookie season was too hard to ignore. If the 3rd Year Rule applies to Colston, the league better look out because he's already blown up. He caught nearly 100 balls last year for over 1200 yards and 11 TDs. Those are solid digits.

Torry Holt - Holt had a down year by his standards last year, failing to produce either 1200 yards or 10 TDs for the first time since his rookie season. I see Marc Bulger bouncing back this year though, and Holt will rebound with him. He's going to be a great value pick this year.

Plaxico Burress - I wasn't going to put him in the Big Dog Club, but when you consider what he did last year despite knee and ankle injuries. He scored in his first 6 games last year and racked up 1025 yards and 12 scores for the year. It was his second straight double-digit TD year with the G-Men, and Eli's added confidence (and pressure from NY media and fans removed) following the Super Bowl victory should keep the success going.

Fantasy Football Mock Draft #3

I did my third The Sporting News Live Mock Fantasy Football Draft today. They offer 10 & 12 Team Drafts that go 15 rounds, which I use to gauge where people are picked. As the season approaches, these Mock Drafts become better because everyone is more up-to-speed on the players and you get a full draft. When there isn't a full draft, there is an Autopick in place. They go by Sporting News rankings. It's not ideal, but it's acceptable. Another cool feature is the chat board which allows you to discuss players with other fantasy football fanatics.

Here's how my team shaked out:
This time I joined a ten-man league and had the fifth pick. I knew I was going to get one of the Big Dog Running Backs. It was just a matter of which one. I had the choice between S-Jax and Joseph Addai. I chose Addai because he's the safer of the two in my opinion. If Bulger gets hurt again, S-Jax could struggle. With my second pick I was undecided between an RB (Willis McGahee) or a WR (Andre Johnson). I decided to go with McGahee with my second pick and was fortunate enough to have AJ still there with pick #3. With my fourth and fifth picks I rounded out my WR corps by adding Torry Holt and Brandon Marshall. In the sixth round I opted for RB depth. I chose LenDale White over Michael Turner and Darren McFadden. In Round 7 Run DMC was still there so I snatched him up. I figured I should grab a QB in Round 8. I had a choice between Matt Hasselbeck, Marc Bulger, and McNabb. I went with Hasselbeck. I've had him my first two mocks so it's natural I grabbed Jonathan Stewart once again in the 9th round. In the 10th, 11th & 12 rounds I went for WR depth by adding Jerricho Cotchery, Reggie Brown and Javon Walker. In the 13th I decided to finally take a TE. I went with Tony Scheffler. In Round 14 I decided to get a backup QB so I added Matt Schaub. I wrapped up by grabbing Pittsburgh Defense.

Rams News and Notes

The Rams are looking more and more to be a contender for the pundits "Sleeper of the Year". This (unofficial) award goes to the team which every pundit from the web, to bloggers, to the CBS Morning Show think will be a surprise team in the NFL in 2008. The other contenders are the Minnesota Vikings (who Dr. Z on Si.com pegged to win it all) and the Buffalo Bills (who had one of their players guarantee a playoff berth).
Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com writes at Yahoo! Sports about the four teams he thinks will crash the playoff party after missing out last year.
Pro Football Reference came out with their All-Franchise teams and the St. Louis Rams are well represented in the St.Louis/LA Rams category. Unsurprisingly, Torry Holt, Issac Bruce and Marshall Faulk have the highest Approximate Value scores for the team. Head here for the rest of the team and explanation about Approximate Value.

One of the most difficult questions to answer as the 2008 NFL season approaches is what will happen with the St. Louis Rams this season? The Rams ranked in the top half of the league in yards of offense for eight straight years until last year when they fell to 24th. Find out what our thoughts are on this offense and what we project for Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson, Torry Holt and Drew Bennett this season.
