Sprained knee to keep Nets' Yi out indefinitely

The New Jersey Nets say an MRI performed on forward Yi Jianlian confirmed that he has sprained a ligament in his right knee.

The Nets said Tuesday that Yi will begin rehabilitation immediately and there is no timetable for his return.

Yi was injured in Monday night's 79-68 loss at Charlotte.

Yi was near the basket when Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace fell and rolled into his leg midway through the third quarter. Yi crumpled to the floor and put no pressure on his right leg as he l...

Shoe of The Week: Nike Zoom Skyposite Yi Jianlian PE

For the most part, I haven't been impressed with the Nike Zoom Skyposite PE's. The ugly Amar'e version comes to mind, but Nike got it right with this colorway. Though I might question whether Yi has come into his own enough to get his own shoes, I gotta say these are nice. Some info on the avaliability of these from Kix and the City:No specific release date yet but, expect them to hit select retailers, like the House of Hoops, in time for the upcoming 2009/2010 NBA season.That'...

Starbury Retiring? Wally to Knicks? Yi Jianlian and more

From my other blog, AlwaysMillerTime.com

According to Stephon Marbury’s Twitter
account page, he has pretty much all given us a hint that he is going
to retire from the National Basketball Association. Said Marbury on Twitter:
“Basketball is just a game. I will say it again.
14 years 250 million. Hold that. I’m good. Thank you Jesus for the
blessing. Thanks NBA.”
Well, it seems JR of The Sports Brief was right when he said
Marbury was going to retire after making pointless and, well shocking...

The Nets are one of the teams the Celtics are rumored to be talking to about a trade involving Big Baby. One of the pieces rumored to be in the deal is Yi Jianlian... who has undergone a bit of a... ummmm.... transformation. (NetsAreScorching has before and after photos).Now... I don't want to start another blog firestorm by making unfounded accusations about a player. But I'm curious how a guy who could have been described as "wiry" is going to come back next season ja...

Yi Jianlian Not As Young As He Seems

Oh, China. You're good at a lot of things, but accurately documenting the ages of your athletes is not one of them. After the gymnastics debacle back in August, it's probably not surprising to learn that Nets hoopster Yi Jianlian isn't really 21.

Warriors still after Yi?

ESPN's Chad Ford is reporting that the Golden State Warriors are still after Yi Jianlian.

Ford speculates that they could offer Brandan Wright and the #14 pick in the draft for Yi. This would be an interesting deal for the Bucks and new GM John Hammond, who did not draft Yi Jianlian and isn't beholden to him. I watched a number of Bucks games early in the year and liked what I saw of Yi. He has a sweet jumper, can handle the ball and drive a bit, and can run the floor. He made a fe...

Yi is just a rookie, the Bucks aren't a playoff team, and Nuggets cheerleaders are hot.

It turns out that Yi Jianlian is just a rookie, and he's going to need a season or two to get up to NBA speed. The Milwaukee Bucks, desperate for a big man, won't advance to the playoffs until someone becomes an insides presence. Finally, and most importantly, the Denver Nuggets cheerleaders are hot. I have pictures as proof.

Guaranteed Minutes for Yi? Only if his Contract is Entirely Performance Based

ESPN's Ric Bucher reports that Milwaukee owner Herb Kohl guaranteed Yi Jianlian that he would play at least 20 minutes per game next season and perhaps as much as 25 minutes per game. Here's an idea if this is true: guarantee Yi's minutes but make his contract entirely performance based? Think he and his Chinese handlers would go for that?

Yi Jianlian Signs With Milwaukee

Refuting critics who said that they could not pull it off, the Milwaukee Bucks signed first round pick Yi Jianlian to a contract. There had been some speculation that Yi would never set foot in Milwaukee, but it is good for the league--and will ultimately be good for Yi's development as a player--that Yi did not try to circumvent the NBA Draft.

Fran Fraschilla: "Yi Is 50 Cent"

If you remember in Friday's Happenings and Mishappenings post, I asked if anyone else heard Fran Fraschilla said the following about Yi Jianlian:

"He is Hip-Hop. He is 50 Cent."

Well, it turns out I wasn't hallucinating. Fraschilla said it and I have video evidence to prove it at the 3:45 mark (with bonus video of Yi's gem of an interview with Stewart "Lazy Eye" Scott at the 1 minute mark):

The interview with Yi went something like this:
Lazy Eye: Yi, why do you think you are ready for the NBA?
Yi: I dink umm i play fo do weta for a and i play dalympics uhhh i play for nba.
Lazy Eye: What's your favorite thing about America?
Yi: uuhhhhhzzz LA LA da peoplzz and da fotraker.

Welcome to America, Yi.
