TOR 12, BOS 0: Jays Fly Away, Sweep Sox

In yet another mortar shelling, the Red Sox came up empty in Wednesday night's beating at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays, losing 12-0. For those of you keeping count, that's six consecutive losses on two straight sweeps.

Roy Halladay had a no hitter going into the sixth, before Joey Gathright, of all people, broke it up with a weak single that NESN proceeded to play on loop like it was an ALCS walk off homer, but hey... gotta hang on to the small miracles... right?

Joey Gathright’s Bogus Journey

Since writing Ryan Freel’s Excellent Adventure on Tuesday, I have been unable to shake the urge to write a similar piece on Joey Gathright. If I was staying true to the timeline, Gathright would have had the Excellent Adventure and Freel the Bogus Journey. After all EA came out in 1989 and BJ didn’t grace [...]

Red Sox Acquire Joey Gathright from Orioles

The Red Sox may have found their long-sought pinch runner. The Sox sent a player to be named later or cash to the Orioles Saturday for minor league outfielder Joey Gathright. Gathright has absurd speed, and can definitely help a slow Red Sox team (besides speedster Jacoby Ellsbury).
Gathright, who was traded to the Orioles in [...]

O's trade Gathright for player to be named

The Orioles traded Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Joey Gathright to Triple-A Pawtucket of the Boston Red Sox organization in exchange for a player to be named or cash. The move makes it likely that Norfolk outfielder Jeff Fiorentino will be called up to join the club when rosters expand on Tuesday.

Please Destory Your Priceless Cub Souvenirs: TCR Friday Notes

-- Tigers, Diamondbacks, Nationals, Astros; that's your complete list of the teams which ranked lower than the Cubs in Kevin Goldstein's player development rankings at Baseball Prospectus (subscription required).

Goldstein's comments about the Cubs, who stood 16th in his '08 rankings:

"Josh Vitters is one of the best pure hitters in the minors; 2008 top pick Andrew Cashner's post-draft struggles were a fluke and his stuff will play; Jeff Samardzija finally began figuring things out."

	"Other than Vitters, there is
really not a single hitter in this system that excites anyone; the
weakness in terms of the organization's depth is the key reason that
the long-rumored Jake Peavy deal never went down."

"Samardzija is the only player who is likely to lose his prospect status; there's no reason to see (the Cubs) moving up considerably (in the rankings)."

--We all know that spring training numbers mean next to nothing, but since Opening Day is, what, another 11 weeks away?, they're the only numbers we have, so let's enjoy them, dammit!

Micah Hoffpauir leads all NL hitters with 17 RBI and is tied for fourth
with 4 HR; Mike Fontenot is hitting .391 with an OPS

Prospect Profiles 2009: Devaris Gordon

Overview-The son of long-time major leaguer Tom Gordon, Devaris is a surprisingly raw player because he didn't pickup baseball until high school. Regardless, the Dodgers selected him in the 4th round of the 2008 draft, and he didn't take long to justify their pick, torching the Pioneer League ...

Video: Nate Robinson Dunks Over Dwight Howard in Slam Dunk Competition

I'm pretty sure this is the dunk that gave Nate Robinson the edge over Dwight Howard in the Slam Dunk Competition at All-Star Weekend. I mean I thought Adrian Wilson and Joey Gathright were freaks of nature with their ridiculous verticle leaps. That was until I saw tiny 5'9" Nate Robinson hurdle 6'11" Dwight Howard. Witness crazy athleticism:

Why did the Cubs sign Joey Gathright?

If for no other reason, it was to impress the team on road trips and boost morale by doing things like this off the field:

Click on the link below to see another video of Joey Gathright. Maybe the Cubs are 0-6 in the 2 years in the playoffs because they don't have a freak show player off the bench. That's definitely not it, but who knows.
Ripping Joey Gathright

I've been thinking of Joey Gathright as a Doug Dascenzo For The New Century, but Geoff Young, author of the Padres blog <a href="http://snurl.com/8olrs-pmjpdh - Ducksnorts: Blogging the San Diego Padres baseball club. Established 1997. [ducksnorts_com] ">Ducksnorts and in this case writing for Baseball Digest Daily, paints an even uglier picture.

Enjoy Geoff's post for yourself. All I'll quote here is this:

...what Gathright did in 2008 has been accomplished a mere 15 times since 1901.
