Coyotes Bite Sharks 5-3

The Phoenix Coyotes snap the road win streak for the San Jose Sharks and improve their record at home by beating the Sharks 5-3. Ed Jovanovski had a huge four-point night, and Shane Doan along with Peter Muller had a three-point night. Doan had two goals.

They won without Radim Vrbata who left due to a lower body injury during the game and Steven Reinprecht who left with neck spasms. Vrbata leads the team in goals scored with 18.

Ilya Bryzgalov shut the Sharks down in the third period when Joel Perrault scored the game winning goal in the opening seconds of the period.

The Coyotes have won four games in a row at home.

Coyotes Take Game One from Avalanche

The Phoenix Coyotes finally win a game on home ice, but they didn't make it easy on themselves. Having a 3-1 lead in the waning moments of the second period, the Avalanche scored to bring the score within one.

The third period is still the worst period for the Coyotes as they allowed the Avalanche to score another goal late to tie the game.

However, thanks to Ilya Bryzgalov, Radim Vrbata and Peter Mueller, the victory went to the Coyotes and they travel northward to Colorado to face the Avalanche again.

There were many positive aspects to Monday night's game. Steven Reinprecht made amends for his turnover late in the game against the Red Wings Saturday night with a timely go ahead goal 11 seconds after Radim Vrbata scored a goal on the power play that tied the game at one apiece. Good things happen when players skate forward and shoot the puck in prime scoring areas.

Radim Vrbata is getting hot once again as he scored two goals and one assist in regulation, and finished the game with a shootout goal. He has five points in two games with three goals.

Peter Mueller gets better and better with each game he plays. On Vrbata's second power play chance, Mueller, after corralling the puck at the point, made a beautiful tape-to-tape pass to Vrbata and Vrbata put the puck past Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj.

Mueller also shows his skill in the shootout. Mueller has a goal in each of the two shootout victories by the Coyotes.

Ilya Bryzgalov shows exactly why quality netminders can jump start a young team's development. He stopped 42 of 45 shots and most of them quality chances from the Avalanche snipers. If it wasn't for him, the score would have been clearly out of reach.

Bryzgalov and the power play enabled the Coyotes to go to a shootout and win this game. With their prowess on the road, they can potentially win another against this Avalanche team. However, the Avalanche have an amazing 15-5 record at home, so it will not be easy.

Coyotes Battle Back to Win Against Flyers

In the first period against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Phoenix Coyotes faced a team that looked like them in a way: young, fast, and hungry for a win. The Coyotes looked a little bewildered on the ice battling a team that was very aggressive in every facet of the game, except shots on goal. After the first period, the Coyotes had 14 shots to the Flyers 5.

The difference was the goal scored by Scott Hartnell.

Then, Keith Yandle saw his opportunity and capitalized by knocking a goal in behind Flyers' netminder Martin Biron after the puck deflected off of Biron's mask and ricocheted towards Yandle's stick. Yandle shot it in the net and scored his first career NHL goal to cut the deficit in half.

Keith Ballard took a hooking penalty in the last two minutes of the second period. Undaunted, and thanks to an aggressive penalty kill of their own, Shane Doan found himself with the puck and streaked up the side boards. As the Flyers' defenders tracked Doan, they neglected to pay attention to Fredrik Sjostrom baring down on the weak side. Doan made a quick pass to Sjostrom and he banged it home for the tying goal.

Sjostrom is en fuego. He has a three-game goal streak and has eight points in the last five games.

Another young player that is red hot is Peter Mueller. With the score tied at two apiece in the third period, he makes a strong play in front of the net and never gives up. Thanks to the initial hard work of Doan and Steven Reinprecht, Mueller capitalizes on his scoring chance.

Mueller now has nine goals and 17 points. Only Jonathan Toews, the NHL leader in goals scored for rookies, has more.

The win against the Flyers is the first time the Coyotes won a game while trailing after the first period.

They now return to San Jose to find a way to earn their first victory against the only team in the Pacific Division that they have not beaten.

Phoenix Coyotes Beat Los Angeles Kings 4-1

It was a nice change from what we have seen lately.

The Coyotes must have the Kings' number as they have beaten them for three straight games. Even though there are five more games to play against each other, right now, the Coyotes have dominated the Kings and they are 8-5 against their division rivals. It's too bad that they keep getting picked to lose against the Kings and against southern California teams, because the Coyotes will not cooperate. It's funny how that happens.

However, it's still early, but it's a good start.

Radim Vrbata has been out of the lineup for the past two games and his scoring touch was missed. Now that he's back in, Vrbata makes a statement with his tenth goal of the season. He leads the Coyotes in goals scored.

Peter Mueller had a monster game with three points, one goal and two assists, and continues to grow as a hockey player. He was the second star of the night for the Coyotes. Mueller is second among rookies in goals scored and tied with Niklas Backstrom for points scored.

Keith Ballard was strong on the blueline all night and made some top flight hits, especially against Dustin Brown.

Ilya Bryzgalov bounced back tonight as well only allowing one goal on 28 shots. This season, he has been between the pipes for each Coyotes' victory against the Kings and has stopped 82 of 84 shots.
