Montreal Resigns Halak

The former Maineiac goaltender who backstopped the Maineiacs net in the 2004-2005 season has resigned with the Montreal Canadiens. Jaroslav Halak has agreed to a two year, 1.55 million dollar deal with Montreal. Last year he had a 2-1-1 record with a 2.11GAA and a .934SV%. He was behind Cristobal Huet and Carey Price last year. He spent most of last year with the Hamilton Bulldogs where he...

Most people don't usually like Monday's but Maineiacs fans will have a smile on their face heading to work. They don't have to worry about Garrett Clarke. There will be no going on the internet when the boss isn't looking to check blogs, message boards, or newspapers on the latest news on a 15 year old. The soap opera ended before it..

Flyers Eliminate Canadiens, Move On To Eastern Conference Finals

In this year's playoffs, it has been the Flyers who have been making it a habit of taking two goal leads, then blowing them. The roles were reversed tonight when the Montreal Canadiens would take a two goal lead, their first lead of the series, only to see it evaporate.

After being the worst team in the league last year, the Flyers are now heading back to the Eastern Conference Finals. They will play the winner of the Penguins-Rangers series. Currently the Penguins are up 3-1 in the series and game 5 will be played Sunday afternoon.

Flyers win, move to the Eastern Conference Finals!

Bring on the Penguins! Or maybe the Rangers if they pull off a miracle.

After falling behind by 2 goals in the third period, the Flyers pulled off an incredible comeback to knock off the Canadiens 6-4 and win their series against Montreal 4 games to 1. It was another total team effort in the comeback, with several players stepping up, making plays and scoring goals to lead the Flyers to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Scottie Upshall was the big hero of the night as he scored the game winning goal when he deflected in a Jeff Carter shot with 3 minutes left in the third. R.J. Umberger also continued his incredible goal scoring streak with two goals tonight, scoring for the 5th game in a row to give him 9 total goals in the playoffs. Umberger has been just incredible lately, scoring timely goals on some amazing plays.

This is a special Flyers team. They have gone from the worst team in the NHL to one of the four best teams in the league. While so much credit is given to GM Paul Holmgren for re-shaping this team, plenty should be given to Coach John Stevens for getting them to play the game the right way. The Flyers work hard, hit hard, and don't let anything come easy for their opponents. How Stevens isn't a finalist for the NHL Coach of the Year award is beyond me; he certainly has been pushing all the right buttons and making all the right decisions for the last month.

The Canadiens, the number one seed in the Eastern Conference, are the next team to fall to the Flyers. With so much at stake now, the competition will really step up and the Flyers will have to raise their game even more. We are going to see if this team has been overachieving this whole time or if they are truly a team that is destined to win it all. After a few days of solid rest, hopefully they can get right back out there and continue to play with the intensity and aggression that no team has been able to match so far.

Oh, and if they do end up playing the Penguins, I wonder what injury Sidney Crosby will make up this time to avoid playing the Flyers?

Canadiens hope Price is right

Much to the joy of the Philadelphia Flyers, Carey Price will be returning to the net for the Montreal Canadiens for Game Five tonight. As they face elimination, Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau has chosen to play to 20 year old rookie, who has been extremely shaky against the Flyers, rather than Jaroslav Halak, who was in net for Game Four after Price was benched. The Canadiens are hoping that Price's confidence isn't destroyed by his terrible play and subsequent benching while the Flyers hope he keeps misplaying the puck and giving them extra scoring chances.

The Canadiens are in full-on desperation mode for tonight's game. Not only will they be putting a broken goaltender in net, they will also be shuffling their lines around, trying to find a combination that will work. With their backs against the wall, expect Montreal to come out with a bunch of fire and intensity and try to jump on the Flyers early. It will be up to the Flyers to hold their ground and try to counter-punch to calm down the rabid Montreal fans.

In Carbonneau's Opinion, The Price Is Right

Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau decided to bench struggling goaltender Carey Price and start Jaroslav Halak for game 4 on Wednesday in an attempt to change the Canadiens' fortunes and even the round 2 series with Philadelphia Flyers at 2 games a piece. Instead, he got the same results with a different goaltender and Philadelphia took a 3 games to 1 series lead. After the game, the question for Carbonneau was who would be the starter for game 5.

According to TSN, Carbonneau has announced that he will be going with Carey Price tomorrow night. Price, a rookie goaltender, took the starting job in Montreal from Christobal Huet, who was later traded to Washington. In this year's playoffs, Price is 5-5, with a 2.55 GAA and .909 save percentage.

Habs goalie trouble started a long time ago

The trade Montreal made close to the deadline is finally showing why it was a bad deal for the Canadiens. The Habs are only 1 game from elimination and they have deiced to make a goalie change. 20 year old Carey Price will be replaced by less experienced 22 year old Jaroslav Halak. The Canadiens traded away their former number 1 goalie, Cristobal Huet to the Washington Captials for only a 2nd round pick. Huet went 14-6 in his 20 regular and postseason games for the Caps. Bob Gainey is now wishing he didn't put all his eggs in Price's basket as the young goalie's nonchalant attitude in net has his team down 3 games to 1.

Goaltender Change For Montreal Nets Same Result, Flyers Have Stranglehold On Series

After a poor performance in game 3 by Carey Price and subsequent benching in the third period, the big question coming into tonight's game 4 was who would be in net for the Canadiens. Following game 3 and during practice yesterday, Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau refused to answer who would be the starting goaltender for game 4. Shortly before game time, Carbonneau announced that Jaroslav Halak was starting for Montreal, and Carey Price would be riding the pine.

For the Flyers, this game saw the return of Mike Knuble. Knuble injured his hamstring during game 5 against the Washington Capitals. Knuble's return meant good things for a Flyers power play that was very disorganized in the previous game and wasn't able to even get a shot.

Biron does it again, gives Flyers 3-1 series lead

The Flyers decided to make it interesting in the end, blowing another 2 goal lead, but they still managed to pull out a 4-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens to give them a 3-1 series lead. Martin Biron was once again the hero for the Flyers, making numerous brilliant saves to keep the Flyers in the game. The Flyers will continue to win in the playoffs if Biron, who finished with 36 saves, can play like this every night.

The Canadiens goaltending is a totally different story. Carey Price, the Habs goalie for every game in the playoffs so far, was benched prior to tonight's game following his awful performance in Game 4. Jaroslav Halak was called upon to make his first career playoff start for the Canadiens, and while he looked good for a long stretch in the beginning of the game, he would eventually let in two goals that he should have been able to stop. The problem the Canadiens have now is they can't go back to Price even if they wanted to because the young goaltender's confidence has to be shot after getting benched. They will be forced to go with Halak for the rest of the series regardless of how well he plays.

Let's all sit back and enjoy how far this Flyers team has come. They are the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference and they have completely dominated the best team in the East. The Flyers have looked like the better team on the ice in nearly every game and if it wasn't for some questionable calls in Game One, the series would already be over. They have the best goaltender in the playoffs right now, and they have the most complete team of anyone in hockey. Enjoy it Flyers fans, this amazing playoff ride doesn't appear to be ending any time soon.
