MFK, Boston Bruins Edition: Playoff Player Of The Game Accessories

A.B. Here’s a little background for those of you who don’t stalk the Boston Bruins like a few of the writers here do (online stalking only, of course):
For the past 3 years, the Boston Bruins have selected a unique fashion accessory to be worn post-game by the player of the game. The tradition started with a vintage Boston Bruins windbreaker during the 2011 Stanley Cup run and has since evolved into an industrial sized lock & chain last year and a Army Rangers jacket this year for the 2013 playoffs.
If you need background on what MFK is, you have come to the wrong place.
Bro Juneau‘s picks:
Marry – Bruins Windbreaker

This windbreaker will forever be the holy grail of Bruins playoff accessories. Not only was it the accessory that started this playoff trend and the first to be draped on Lord Stanley’s cup – it also nursed Horton back to health after he took a brutal season-ending hit from Aaron Rome in 2011. I love this jacket.

Down go the Canucks

Since the NHL playoffs are always a special time of the year I am going to try and keep our followers updated with out of town hockey news as well as the Bruins. If you haven't been watching the other playoff series, you are missing some great hockey. In the East, The Montreal Canadiens fall 3-1 in their series with Ottawa after blowing a 2-0 lead late in third to eventually lose in overtime in one of the softest goals.Pittsburgh also lost last night as the New York Islanders scored 3 third period goals to come away with a 6-4 victory and even the series at 2 games a piece. In West, The San Jose Sharks swept the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 on a Patrick Marleau overtime goal. This is the second straight year the Canucks have lost in the first round, after making it to game 7 of the Finals against the Bruins in 2011. Vancouver is 2-12 in postseason play after Aaron Rome head-hunted Nathan Horton. Finally, Chicago came one win closer to moving on as they went up 3-1 i their series vs Minnes...

Nathan Horton Returns to Bruins Lineup for Game 1, Makes First Playoff Appearance Since 2011 Cup Final (Video)

Many Bruins fans forget, but the team was without Nathan Horton during last season’s first-round series loss to Washington. In fact, the winger has not seen the ice in the playoffs since Game 3 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, when he was famously cheap-shotted by Vancouver’s Aaron Rome.
Horton missed the final 36 games of 2011-12 and the entire postseason with a concussion, and he sat the final the final five games of this season after being injured in a fight with Pittsburgh’s Jarome Iginla. He will be back in action Wednesday night, though, as he’ll skate in his usual spot on the first line alongside Milan Lucic and David Krejci when the Bruins open their first-round series against the Maple Leafs.
Check out what Horton and his teammates had to say before Wednesday’s playoff opener in the video above.

Defenseman Rome goes to Stars

Defenseman Aaron Rome signed a three-year, $4.5 million contract with the Dallas Stars on Sunday. Rome, 28, played in 43 games for the Vancouver Canucks last season and posted career highs of four goals and six assists. “Aaron is a physical defensive defenseman who adds size and grit to our blue line,” Stars general manger Nieuwendyk said. “He competes at a very high level and helps make our team harder to play against.” Before spending the past three seasons with the Canucks, Rome played for Anaheim and Columbus. His career experience includes 18 playoff appearances.

Aaron Rome Done in Vancouver, Canucks Not Bringing Back Free Agent Defenseman

The Canuck many Bruins fans despise the most won't be wearing Vancouver colors anymore. No, Roberto Luongo hasn't been traded yet. And how could Bruins fans truly hate Luongo? His ability to motivate Tim Thomas in last year's Stanley Cup Final, not to mention his own sieve-like netminding in the three games at the Garden, were instrumental in Boston winning its first Cup in 39 years. Aaron Rome played a key role too. He also galvanized the Bruins' effort and helped turn the series around, but Boston fans were far less appreciative of that as it came at the cost...

No contracts forthcoming for Canucks’ Rome, Oreskovich & Ebbett

Not returning in 2012?
The Vancouver Canucks have decided to let unrestricted free agent defenseman Aaron Rome and Center Andrew Ebbett go into free agency without signing them to contract extensions.
Winger Victor Oreskovich will join those two as an UFA, after he did not receive a qualifying offer that would have kept the restricted player with the team.
All three players will be able to start negotiated deals with new teams starting July 1st, 2012.
Built in a day
Of the three players not returning, Aaron Rome figures to be the one who’s presence will be missed the most.
He was never able to consistently project as anything more than a sixth defenseman, although he was often moved up in the rotation to the top four for certain games. He played in 43 games in the 2011-2012 season, and chipped in with 10 points.
Still relatively young at 28, his physical play and penchant for standing up for his teammates made him a likeable player in the dressing room, and will make other teams take a good hard look a

Aaron Rome accidently POPS Kevin Bieksa in the face | Canucks Video

That’s gotta hurt?!
Last night in Minnesota the Vancouver Canucks suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Wild and their brutal style of hockey. I fell asleep in the first period.
Sorry.
Anyways when I woke up all I heard about was the punch. Check out the video below and watch the bad night continue for Kevin Bieksa, who takes a punch from teammate Aaron Rome. Well not literally.
Rome hit Stephane Veilleux in the head so hard that Veilleux’s head snapped back only and popped Bieksa right in the face.
You can just hear Bieksa on the bench after this one saying…
“WTF Rome????!!!!!”

Aaron Rome Mania!

Aaron Rome is experiencing a phenomenon that only Jeff Cowan and Rory Fitzpatrick can relate to right now. Aaron Rome Mania has swept Canuck Nation. Rome returned from injury last week and played his first four games of the season. In those four games the Canucks have gone 3-1 and Rome has 3 goals and 2 assists!
Five points in four games usually isn’t something that will spawn a frenzy among fans, except for the fact that it’s Aaron freaking Rome doing it! You see, Rome had 5 points all of last season. His only goal of the regular season was into an empty net, needing Henrik Sedin to do some curling style sweeping for it to cross the line. In fact, Rome had only one non-empty net goal in his previous 133 regular season games before this unforeseen outburst. That goal came all the way back on April 3rd, 2008 when he was a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Aaron Rome Mania is so big, that now there’s a Rory Fitzpatrick style movement to get him into the all star game (search #vote...

We might see our 14th suspension of the year soon because of the hit by Aaron Rome on Ducks rookie Devante Smith-Pelly. Rome delivered an elbow to the head of Pelly half-way through the second period. Rome was ejected for the hit and Pelly, who looked rattled by the hit went to the locker room but returned shorty after.Rome is already considered a repeat offender because of his hit on Nathan Horton in the Cup finals for which he was suspended four games. I don't see why not this can be a suspension too.My Insight: I think this hit is definitely worthy of a suspension. Four games sounds just about right.

Aaron Rome ejected for Smith-Pelly hit

By Alexander Monaghan President
Earlier tonight Aaron Rome received a five-minute major and 10 minute misconduct when he elbowed Devante Smith-Pelly of the Anaheim Ducks. The Vancouver Canuck defenseman landed yet another controversial hit at the 11:04 marker of the second period after catching the Ducks rookie in the head with an errant forearm.
Let’s check out the hit:

While not identical to his open ice hit on Nathan Horton, Rome is a repeat offender which should garner a second look from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan. One can only expect he gets a similar suspension to Andy Sutton for a direct shot to the head.
What do you think the punishment should be? We urge you to take the vote below:\
