Ray McDonald no stranger to championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The game has been a part of Ray McDonalds story from the very beginning.
Born in the wee morning hours of Sept. 2, 1984, the sounds of football could be heard almost right up to McDonalds birth.
His father, Ray McDonald Sr., was a standout receiver for the Gators at the time. Florida opened the 1984 season a few hours earlier on the night of Sept. 1 against Miami at old Tampa Stadium.
As LaBrina McDonalds body continuously reminded her that it was about time, the Florida-Miami game was on the radio in a Pahokee hospital.
The doctor who was birthing him was a big-time Gator fan, Ray McDonald Sr. recalled this week. He was actually listening to the game while she was in the delivery room.
Soon after the Gators returned to Gainesville after a 32-20 loss to the Hurricanes, Ray McDonald Sr.s mood took a turn for the better. LaBrina had given birth to Ray Jr., the couples first son.
That son, who like father played for the Gators, will play in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday in New Orleans.

Wide receivers Tate, Rice step up for Seahawks

(Eds: Updates with quotes, details. With AP Photos.) By CURTIS CRABTREE Associated Press Sidney Rice and Golden Tate have become the go-to targets for Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson.

Rice, healthy for the first time in three years, is enjoying a resurgence for the Seahawks. A hip injury derailed his final season in Minnesota before Rice signed with Seattle following the lockout.

Rice couldn't escape the injury bug last year, either, with a pair of bad shoulders and two concussions bringing his season to a premature end. Rice caught just 32 passes for 484 yards and two touchdowns in his first year with the Seahawks.

Tate is finally having the breakthrough he's been waiting for after two mostly unimpressive seasons in Seattle. Entering this season, Tate had never had more than 61 yards receiving in his two years a pro. Through 12 games, Tate has already matched or exceeded his career highs in catches (35), yards (486) and touchdowns (7).

As Wilson has continued to progress as a q

It was Monday, November 27, 2006 and the year after the Seattle Super Bowl run with the Seahawks looking to make their mark in hopes to make another run. Shaun Alexander did his part in helping the Seahawks work their way to that goal.
Well…in this game at least.
He had spent the first 6 weeks of the season on the bench with a broken foot.
It was a cold, snowy day in Seattle and the teams had to play in the snow – a rarity in downtown Seattle. That alone set the tone in this game.

Random Athlete Of The Day- JaJuan Dawson

Jajuan is the answer to one of my new favorite trivia questions: Who was the 3rd string wide receiver for the Houston Texans in their inaugural season? Dawson was born in Gibson, LA, a town with a population of just under 2,000. At H.L Bourgeois High School the 6-1 Dawson was a star in Football, Basketball, and track, which escorted him directly to Tulane University, which is a bit larger than his hometown.
His first year he redshirted at TU, but the next season he got in the mix and caught 18 passes for 211 yards and touchdown. In 1997 Dawson broke out and became the go-to receiver for the Green Wave. Even though his season was cut short, he still managed 52 receptions for 839 yards and 10 touchdowns emerging as a serious deep threat. That year against Syracuse he exploded for career high 204 yards (of course it had to be against Syracuse). The next season Dawson managed to do something very hard. Not only did he help that team to an undefeated season, but also he somehow made Shau...

He is officially wearing Darrell Jackson's old #82.

Also Paul Skansi's old #82. But who's showing off their Seahawks history?

Seahawks Top 10 Regular Season Finales

The Seahawks go into Glendale on New Year's Day striving to level their record at 8-8, which would provide the team (and us Twelves) a pleasant conclusion to a hope-building season. In our franchise history, Seattle is a maddeningly inconclusive/mediocre 18-17 in regular season finales. Here's the Top 10 wins that either sent us into the offseason on a rousing high note, or in some cases rocketed us headlong into the postseason- Enjoy! 10. 12/21/97 Seahawks 38, Niners 9 The Niners came in with their playoff seeding locked in, and treated this like a glorified preseason game. Despite that, this was still a very satisfying win to close out my first season as a season ticket holder. Warren Moon wrapped up his spectacular 1997 season with four TD passes, including two to Joey Galloway. Michael Sinclair notched two sacks to bring his season total to 12, and Chris Warren closed out his Seahawks career with 99 yards (making him the all-time leading rusher in Seahawks history by a s...

Double Flashback: Two Seahawks Playoff Wins Over the Redskins

Every once in a while, I'll reach back into the archives of my personal blog (which existed from 2002-2009 and more or less got killed by facebook, twitter and this blog) for classic posts about our Seahawks. This week is a great time to look back at the two victories among the top 10 in franchise history that came at the expense of the Washington Redskins: Our 20-10 2005 Divisional Playoff win and our 35-14 2007 Wild Card triumph... Enjoy! January 14, 2006: Seahawks 20, Redskins 10 21 years of frustration… Gone. I’m as giddy right now as Shaun was after Matt’s TD scamper in the 3rd quarter. What an amazing show of heart by the entire Seattle roster, overcoming the injury to Shaun Alexander and three giveaways to notch the win that sends us into the NFC title game (and sends me out west to scream my guts out at the biggest event in the history of Seattle sporting life)…For me this was three hours on the verge of barfing all over my living room, but this team that I fell madly, r...
