Couples, Singh out of Australian tournaments

Fred Couples is out of the Australian Open and Vijay Singh has withdrawn from the Australian PGA due to injuries, the Australasian PGA golf tour said Saturday.

Couples was a late addition to the Dec. 3-6 Australian Open at New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney after tournament drawcard Greg Norman withdrew due to slower-than-expected recovery from shoulder surgery. Couples has now had to pull out with a lower back injury.

With the decade of the 2000s almost over, we're running through the best of the last ten years in the world of golf. Today: the best PGA players of the last ten years. 1. Tiger Woods. You knew this. Your grandmother knew this. Tiger is in the conversation for best athletes of all time, not just best golfers of the decade.
Vijay Singh will return to Australia for the first time since the 1998 Presidents Cup when he plays in the Australian PGA from Dec. 10-13 with defending champion Geoff Ogilvy and John Daly.

The Fiji-born Singh helped the International team beat the United States in the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne, but has not played in Australia since.

"I have always intended to return to Australian shores and when I got the offer to play, I jumped at the chance," Singh said in a stateme...

Vijay Singh Offered to Pay $500K Toward Allen Stanford's Bail

by Ryan WilsonFiled under: PGAVijay Singh is currently at 3-under, T49 early in the third round at the Travelers Championship. And as has been the case since January, he's sporting a visor emblazoned with Stanford Financial, one of his sponsors. One problem: in February, the Securities and Exchange Commission charged Stanford with defrauding its customers out of $7 billion, and last week chairman Allen Stanford and three of his colleagues were charged. Bail was set at $2 million and Singh...

Vijay Singh Stays Unusually Loyal

Allen Stanford is the financier and head of the Stanford Financial
Group recently accused of bilking investors of over $7 billion in a
ponzi scheme run from Antigua. How anyone did not see this coming is
beyond me, but it's proof that the rich are just as stupid as the
poor, just with sexier cars to crash when things go wrong. An
Antiguan bank offered impossible returns? Give me 100,000
shares! Humphrey, what is that delicious smell? Natural gas? No, don't

Yesterday we told you about Vijay Singh’s boneheaded refusal to remove the logos of financial fraudster and former sponsor Allen Stanford from his clothing, but Singh is not the only person having trouble finding new sponsorships in these tough economic times.

The entire sport of golf is suffering, and nowhere is that [...]

The flamboyant financial honcho is accused of defrauding investors out of over $8 billion dollars. Before his financial house of cards collapsed, Stanford was famous in sports circles for being a major sponsor of teams and athletes, including Vijay Singh.

If you've ever washed down a pimento cheese sandwich with a cold beer on a golf course in Augusta you're probably aware of the 16th hole practice round tradition at the Masters where players skim the pond to the green. Well, yesterday Vijay Singh took that to a whole new level.

Vijay Singh Out Two Months With Forearm Injury

Vijay Singh, fresh off his FedEx Cup win, will be out two months with tendinitis in his forearm, an injury that will keep him out of two big Asian Tour tournaments. The 45-year-old won two of the four playoff tournaments this year, good enough to capture the $10 million prize that comes with the FedEx Cup, and now appears to have done so with an injury.

I guess that all the rage in golf these days. Sure, winning tournaments is hard enough, but can you win one with an injury?
