Announcing the Best Ball Masters Challenge Winner

Last week we ran our first Best Ball Masters Challenge and it was a blast. It gave us a reason to care about KJ Choi, Nick Watney, and Fred Couples as their birdies were just as important as Tiger Woods and Adam Scott’s. The winner of the challenge was “jsiedlak31″ who was an impressive -49, which was good enough to rank 23rd in the Nation. Very impressive. He/she is the winner of the AwesomeSportsLogos.com tshirt. If you are “jsiedlak31″ please shoot an email to rob@baconsports.com so that we can send you your swag.
In second place at -43 was Iron My Shirt (Pat Courtney). He wins two Bacon Sports koozies. Great job Pat!
We’ll be doing this Best Ball Challenge for the other three majors so make sure to check back then to join in on the action!
Till then, Goodbye Friends.

Choi, Snedeker tied for lead at Torrey Pines

Brandt Snedeker ended another round at Torrey Pines atop the leaderboard. Only this time he had company, and still a long way to go.

Snedeker, the defending champion, played bogey-free on the North Course for a 7-under 65 on Thursday that gave him a share of the lead with K.J. Choi in the Farmers Insurance Open. Give the edge to Choi, who birdied three of his last four holes on the tougher South Course for a 65.

Tiger Woods, a seven-time champion at Torrey Pines, was in range of the lead until two bogeys on the last four holes, and having to scramble for par on the par-5 18th hole on the South for a 68.

Phil Mickelson had a 72 on the North.

World's Best Golfers Compete at Sawgrass

The best golfers in the world head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for the THE PLAYERS Championship. With a 9.5 million dollar purse, the richest on Tour, and a demanding TPC Sawgrass course, THE PLAYERS Championship attracts a stellar field and tests the limits of every player, especially over the finishing three holes. None is more infamous than the treacherous 17th, where finding land on the tiny island green is met with cheers from the crowd and can mean the difference between being a contender or a champion. In 2011, 40 balls found their way to a watery finish. For the golfer who survives 17, the water lined dog leg left 18th hole awaits, and it is traditionally ranked as the hardest hole on the course. Last year, K.J. Choi and David Toms tied at the end of regulation and went to the just the fourth playoff in tournament history. Toms forced the playoff by making an unusual birdie at 18. The playoff went to the 17th hole and both men found the surface, although Toms was much closer to the pin. But a great

Choi has 3-shot lead over Woods, Stricker

K.J. Choi birdied his opening five holes then held on in 30 mph (48 kph) gusts for a 6-under 66 that gave him a three-shot lead over Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker at the Chevron World Challenge on Thursday.

Woods looked as good as he did in Australia, making his fourth birdie with a 3-iron to an elevated green on the par-5 fifth that covered the flag in the foothills of Sherwood Country Club.

Choi, Woods and Stricker were the only players to break 70 in the 18-man field in the final official event in America this year.

''Anything under par is a good day today with the wind up,'' said Woods, a four-time winner of this event and the tournament host. ''If the wind stayed down, you're going to have to shoot probably 68 or below for it to be a good score.''

Five of the six players who broke par - Jim Furyk, Nick Watney and Rickie Fowler were at 71 - had most recently played at blustery Royal Melbourne in the Presidents Cup.

Choi figures he had even a greater advantage. He

Lee Min-chang made a late charge to seize a one-shot lead over tournament host K.J. Choi after the first round of the CJ Invitational on Thursday.

Lee's 6-under 66 left him leading the 14th-ranked Choi and Kim Do-hoon after the pair of South Koreans went around the Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club in 5-under 67.

Australian golfers Scott Hend and Adam Groom both shot 68 alongside Hwang Jae-min of South Korea and American player Anthony Kim, who moved up the leaderboard after finishing the back nine in 31.

Lee Tae-hee of South Korea thrilled with a hole-in-one at the par-3 fifth on his way to a three-under 69, where he was joined by another four players.
