Michigan State Spartans – #6 Big Ten college basketball power rankings

Michigan State
Coach: Tom Izzo (17 seasons at Michigan State 412-169)
2011-12: Record 29-8 overall, 13-5 in Big Ten (Tie 1st)
Starters Returning (3) Adreian Payne, Keith Appling, Branden Dawson
Preseason Tournament: Champions Classic
Top Non-Conference Games: vs. Texas, at Miami
Transfer Out: Dwaun Anderson (Wagner)
Last year was another successful season for Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans as they made it to the sweet 16. That being said Izzo expects better with championships and final fours. The Spartans lose all everything Draymond Green, he did everything for the Spartans. The Spartans return 3 starters from last year’s team and a couple of key bench players. Izzo also brings in another top recruiting class including one superstar. One thing for sure we know Izzo will coach this to its best ability.
Leading the Spartans in the backcourt will be point guard Keith Appling (11.4 ppg). Appling is a speedy quick player that excels at getting to the rim. He is also an excelle...

Preview: Kansas Jayhawks vs. Michigan State Spartans

Kansas and Michigan State meet tonight in Atlanta for the Champions Classic. Below are my team previews of the teams and my prediction.
Kansas
Coach: Bell Self (9 seasons at Kansas 269-52) Overall 476-158, 19 years
2011-12: Record 32-7 overall, 16-2 in Big 12 (1st)
Starters Returning (3) Jeff Withey, Elijah Johnson, Travis Releford
Preseason Tournament: Champions Classic, CBE Classic
Top Non-Conference Games: at Ohio State, vs. Temple, vs. Colorado, vs. Oregon State
Transfer Out: Merv Lindsay (New Mexico)
Early Departure: Thomas Robinson
Bill Self did another amazing coaching job last season getting the Jayhawks to the national championship game. Not many expected the Jayhawks to go to the tile game. The Jayhawks lose their top 2 players and scorers but this year’s team could be better than last year’s team. Why? Well this team will have a lot more depth thanks to a bunch of talented freshman. The Jayhawks also return three starters who are all seniors.
The Jayhawks will feature a v...

Projecting the Field: The Conference Champions

TSHQ’s NCAAB Preseason Conference Champions
by Gus Elvin
First, I Hope everyone on the east coast is safe and sound after Hurricane Sandy. For those of you without power and television the next few days, I have some reading material for you, which will not only keep you from pulling your hair out but will also prepare you for the upcoming college basketball season. We are now less than 2 weeks away from the tip off of the 2012-13 college basketball season and it is time to start previewing conferences and making some preseason projections. To start, I am going to take a look at the 31 automatic bid conferences and give you a brief preview and my preseason pick to win the league. These 31 teams if they win their conference postseason tournament will earn an automatic NCAA bid and in some cases will be their league’s lone representative in the Big Dance. We can keep track of these picks as the season goes on and at the end of the season so how I did overall. Remember many of these conferences will be
