Screaming Sports' Drew Thibodeau breaks out another Screaming Sports original. With so many valuable fantasy studs going down with injury, Drew decided it was time to take a look at several replacements. So if you're one of the many fantasy GM's who have been ravaged by injury, then this piece is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Luis Gonzalez to the Marlins: The Fantasy Impact

This is sort of a strange signing for a few reasons. The first of which is that Gonzalez reportedly rejected this same contract from the Marlins a few days ago. The second of which is that there is no room in the Marlins outfield for him (Willingham, Maybin, Hermida, and Ross). Lastly, signing Gonzalez for $2 million makes him the second highest paid player on the team, despite the fact that he's not starting, and their 4th outfielder is arguably a better option than him. I guess not every signing makes sense.

Offseason Team Needs and Possibilities: NL East

Although the hot stove season seems to be cooling down a bit, there are still plenty of holes that need to be filled in each and every major league team. Because of this, and because it is always a good idea to keep an eye on possible transactions, FIO staff writer Shane Huff has dissected the teams by division, revealing the needs still lurking for each team and providing the most likely of candidates who will fill those holes.

Hall of Fame Bound?

Last week Goose Gossage was voted into the Hall-of-Fame for what many believe to be his pioneering of the modern day closer. I don't necessarily agree with his admission into the prestigious collection of elite players of baseball's past, but at the same time I recognize his attributes. Today I want to look at some current MLB players and check out their status for Cooperstown. The players are split into two categories: "Right Now"- meaning if they retired today, five years down the road they get elected 1st ballot; and "Few More"- meaning they're close, but need a few more seasons to hit some statistical milestones before they get the nod. I originally created four categories with "Maybe's" and "Early Birds", but this list became too tedious and quite the endeavor, so I decided to stick to the players that are near Hall worthiness at their prospective points in their careers. *Not included on this list are steroid scandal babies Bonds and Clemens, recently retired Biggio, and the ambiguously big Sosa.

Other Things Former D-backs Were On:

News broke today that former Arizona Diamondback free agent bust Troy Glaus received steroids in 2003 and 2004. That now gives the D-backs the dubious distinction of being connected to two major league players and a minor leaguer who have been caught for using or receiving performance enhancing drugs.

While we here at AzSportsHub don't take performance enhancers lightly (we like to down them by the fistful as you can tell by our amazing writing) we feel like we must expose a list of other Diamondbacks who were on things.

Phillies Open Homestand Beating Dodgers, Lose Hamels to Elbow Strain

There's both good news and bad news for the Phillies.

The good news is that they opened the crucial 10 day homestand with the Dodgers with a 5-4 win behind 6 2/3 innings from Kyle Kendrick and that 2nd baseman Chase Utley may return to the lineup by next week's series with the Mets. Also good news was manager Charlie Manuel's quick 7th inning hook given reliever Jose Mesa after facing one batter â€" a two-out walk to shortstop Rafael Furcal. The result of Manuel's awareness was that relievers J.C. Romero, Tom Gordon and closer Brett Myers shut down the last 7 Dodger hitters in order.

But the bad news is that ace lefthander Cole Hamels (14-5) joined the multitude of Phillies injuries, going down with elbow strain and the Phils figure him to miss at least 2 starts.

As Luck Would Have It, Luis Gonzalez Is The Prize

There's $10,870,852 up for grabs in the pick six at Hollywood Park on Monday, the biggest pool for such a thing in this country's history, and I'm sitting three for three with a pair of longshot winners already to my credit.

I might never work again, giving me the chance to feel what it's like to be the Grocery Store Bagger or the folks selling tickets to Kings games.

This past Firday the 13th, a baseball squad was put together featuring players pulling down serious coin but offering little in return -- zombies, so to speaK.

Some are having decent seasons while others are staying in zombie character.

So, have a gander at baseball's walking dead.

Diamondbacks' week in review

The Diamondbacks were 3-4 in the week: things started well, with two victories over the weekend in Colorado, but the Dodgers then swept a two-game series to end the homestand. And though the road-trip began with an extra-innings victory in San Diego, the next two games were both lost, leaving Arizona at 10-8, occupying third-place in the NL West.

Gonzo not so happy-zo

At first I thought this was just Gonzo being Gonzo and whining about being let go for "youth movement." Upon further review though, it really does look like the Dbacks are erasing/painting over the history of the team.
