Super Cool Madden '09 Unlockable Characters

Hooray! Madden '09 is close to being released. I can't wait to get it for the <s>awesome high-definition game play, improved gang tackling, realistic fatigue, field goal nets, upgraded motion-capture system, passing cone,</s> updated rosters.

One of the best features of sports video games (besides creating yourself in the game and fulfilling all your childhood dreams while you prepare for your next day of work faxing T.P.S. reports to headquarters) is the Unlockable Characters features. It all started in NBA Jam for Sega, where after you pressed a sequence of 52 buttons and lit yourself on fire during the team selection menu, you could unlock Bill Clinton or Ted Kaczynski.

Da Great White Hype was able to contact EA Sports and get the super-secret list of unlockable characters...

1. Philadelphia Eagles Turnstyle

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_gp9tyGwzww8/SHjqGO8kw5I/AAAAAAAAA60/nElQ7w0XQZ0/s400/EaglesTurnstyle.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222181160748368786" />

After Winston Justice's first start in the NFL (in which he played matador to Osi Umenyiora of the Giants, allowing 6 sacks), the folks at Madden have created the unlockable feature of the Turnstyle to substitute for Justice. To unlock the Turnstyle, all you have to do is catch a pass from Donovan McNabb that is thrown at your ankles. Not only will the turnstyle allow McNabb to have another precious second to release a pass, but it will actually not count against the salary cap at all, since it requires no money to eat, drink, or to buy jewelry or weed.

2. Abortion Doctor/Drug Dealer

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_gp9tyGwzww8/SHjtLc8o_3I/AAAAAAAAA68/u1N9BM-Mg80/s320/doctor.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222184548940971890" />

Even though he is suspended for a year, you could unlock this feature in Franchise Mode, when you can pick up free-agent Travis Henry after his punishment is lifted by Rodger Goodell next year.

To unlock this feature, have your team average under 3.5 yards per carry combined with your first-round draft pick being a huge bust. Desperate times call for desperate measures...and you will be forced to sign the hydroponic running back, who also sports Shawn Kemp-like numbers (9 children from 9 different women, 18 ppg, 8 rebounds). But in order for him to stay on your team, you will have to have a character on the sidelines at all time with a dimebag and a wire hanger, ready for when Travis Henry needs a quick hit/termination of pregnancy.

3. Clipboard with Hand Warmers

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_gp9tyGwzww8/SHjvkIVCd_I/AAAAAAAAA7E/RdEHe96EFkU/s320/clipboardhandwarmers.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222187171926145010" />

One day after reportably asking for an unconditional release from Green Bay, the Packers have counteroffered with allowing Brett Favre to come back to the Pack...but only as a backup to Aaron Rodgers. This scenario seems highly unlikely to occur. But if he was to return as second fiddle, it would only be a matter of time until Rodgers was Nancy Kerrigan'd by one of the cheeseheads to allow the text-messaging gunslinger to start again.

So during those below freezing games on the frozen tundra, Aaron Rodgers will need something to keep those paws toasty while he reads off plays that he though he would be running since May. Unlock this feature by pressing up, down, RT, LT, down while you run out of the tunnel on opening day with Aaron Rodgers, to make him tear up while he gets booed by the Lambeau crowd, causing his eye black to run down his face.

4. The Garbage Picking, Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_gp9tyGwzww8/SHj2ah-GhsI/AAAAAAAAA7M/tu1cBt-_utg/s400/The_Garbage_Picking_Field_Goal_Kicking_Philadelphia_Phenomenon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222194703591966402" />

This Unlockable Character is based off the 1998 made-for-tv movie starring Tony Danza who portrays "a Philadelphia garbageman who develops leg muscles from kicking the hydraulic lever on his truck" who is subsequently discovered by the Eagles and signed to be their kicker.

This character brings to the team a rating of 97 for leg strength, a 93 on accuracy, and a 100 for hope. Unlock this character by unearthing the decayed carcass of Barbaro and adding the cooked horsemeat to some Campbell's chunky soup, which will be distributed to the Eagles by Miss McNabb.

Could Justice’s Future in Philly be in Question?

From: Pro Football Weekly
The Eagles are trying Winston Justice at right guard, but it doesn't necessarily bode well for his long-term fuure in Philadelphia. The team drafted three offensive linemen this year, meaning Justice will have to show something during training camp to impress the coaches enough to keep him over a younger player.

Eagles - Offensive tackle Justice has something to prove for Eagles

WINSTON JUSTICE knows what Hugh Douglas thinks of him, knows what people less brazen than Douglas have been saying behind his back since last Sept. 30.
"If they don't bite when they're puppies, they're not going to bite when they're grown dogs,'' Douglas, the former Eagles Pro Bowl defensive end, said over the phone last night, repeating what he has said about Justice on WIP-610 AM's Morning Show. "It just doesn't look like he has any fight in him. If you look at his demeanor, it's like he's not even a football player.''

Justice said yesterday he has never spoken to Douglas about his opinion, and doesn't plan to speak to him about it. Douglas, by the way, said he plans to attend today's session of the Eagles' minicamp for rookies and select veterans, which this week includes Justice, the third-year offensive tackle.

"There's nothing I can really say,'' Justice said. "The only thing I can do is prove it [isn't true] by my actions . . . There's no need to say anything to him.

"He's not the only one who thinks that. This [season] is my chance to prove him wrong.''

In case the moving van just deposited you in Eagles Nation within the past few days or weeks, the controversy stems from Justice's first career start, last Sept. 30 at the Giants. It might have been the worst first career start ever, at any position, though the NFL doesn't keep that exact stat.

The Eagles gave up a team-record 12 sacks that night, six of them to Osi Umenyiora, who usually lined up opposite Justice. Donovan McNabb's early-season, post-ACL surgery immobility and a total meltdown by Justice created one of the most helpless, hapless evenings in the 75-year history of the franchise, a 16-3 loss that would have been worse if not for a valiant defensive effort.

Afterward, Eagles coach Andy Reid blamed himself for not scheming better in the absence of starting left tackle Tra Thomas. Film review showed Justice probably was directly responsible for "only'' four sacks. Teammates talked about spreading the blame.

But to a lot of people, it suddenly didn't seem such a puzzle that a 6-6, 320-pound offensive tackle from USC touted for the first round of the 2006 draft had slid all the way to the Birds in the second round, 39th overall. They were bothered by the numb, stricken look on Justice's face in the second half of that game, as again and again, he reacted late to the silent count, and was brushed aside, almost effortlessly.

"It's one thing to be out-talented by Osi Umenyiora,'' Douglas said last night. "Everybody gets beat. But do something, anything, to keep that guy away from your quarterback - grab him, bite him, something.''

Asked yesterday if this was the first time anyone ever questioned his competitiveness, his heart, Justice said: "He's the first one that did it out loud.''

"It does bother me,'' Justice continued. "But it would be stupid to talk back to him. Talk is nothing. The only thing I can do is prove it. I think that's the best thing to do.''

Justice, who has acknowledged that his "technique'' broke down that night, said he didn't think he quit or went into a shell.

"I thought I gave it my all that game,'' Justice said. "People might say you're not [giving it your all], but you know in your heart, if you are or you're not, and I am.''

Justice tried to begin the redemptive process in the season finale against Buffalo, when Jon Runyan had to leave after a few snaps. Justice made an emergency appearance at right tackle, where he'd hardly ever practiced. He took one penalty, and was otherwise unremarkable, good or bad, in a 17-9 Eagles win, a contest between two teams already eliminated from playoff contention.

It might be possible to read some sort of endorsement of Justice into the fact that the Birds didn't go for an offensive tackle early in last month's draft, even though Runyan turns 35 in November, a week after Thomas turns 34. Justice remains the team's highest-drafted offensive lineman since the Birds took Shawn Andrews in the first round in 2004.

Justice looks bigger in the shoulders this year. He said he remains at 320, but, "I think I gained a lot of muscle. I feel like I'm moving better.''

Justice said he spent much of the offseason at his home in Naples, Fla. - not because he felt he needed to get away from Philadelphia, he said, but because, "I knew that was the best place for me to get ready to play.''

For what it's worth, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg recently told the team's Web site: "I think Winston Justice is going to be a fine player with experience. He's proven that he's a tough guy, that he's got great character. His work habits are excellent, he's an athletic player, and he's got good skill and ability.''

That last part, Douglas said he doesn't doubt. Watching Justice in practice, you see a large, fluid man who glides very naturally into a pass-block "set.'' But of course, that wasn't how he looked the night of Sept. 30.

"There's no doubt he can do it,'' Douglas said, when asked if he felt there was any way Justice could redeem himself. "I just don't think he has that mentality. You don't have to talk a lot out there, but you've got to play with a swagger, with a chip on your shoulder. I remember seeing that in Tra Thomas his rookie year [1998]. Shawn Andrews has that certain swagger. I don't think Winston has it.''

Osi Umenyiora holds out. Could be good news for the Eagles.

This is the same man who wrecked Winston Justice and sacked Donovan seven times. If he doesn't get the money (which he'll probably get) he could be somewhere else not sacking Donovan. This could be great news for us. I've found a nice article on the holdout and posted it below. Another good thing for us is the elimination of the force out rule because we rarely throw to the corner and back of the endzone where as the Giants do with Plaxico. This could mean less TDs for the Giants or it could be wishful thinking on my part. Any way hope you enjoy the quick read.

Getting Larry Fitzgerald isnt the only issue needing to be addressed by the Eagles

Of course we all know the Philadelphia Eagles fans are begging the Eagles to bring in an explosive talent at Wide Reciver this offseason, but honestly our problems go farther than that this offseason. We are still a team who utilizes the Full Back position... and with the departure of Tapeh, the Philadelphia Eagles need to address this considering the only other option is Jason Davis. Also the Eagles having Jon Runyan (34), and William thomas (33) at the starting Tackle position, while outstanding players, the organization really needs to take a look into bringing in some youth to this position sooner or later, after seeing the promise of Justice against the Giants Osi, it has become a big issue. Also some contract and cap disputes including Spikes, McDougal, and Howard.
Lorenzo Neal is the most viable option in obtaining a fullback who can make a difference on this team immediatley, and since this team seems to be on a winning now is the only option kind of offseason, Neal has made way for the NFLs most ground productive runner, LT, seeing these two (Westbrook/ Neal) in the same backfield would be a scary sight to say the least, and neal fits the system perfectly as he can catch outside of the backfield and will come at amazingly cheep price for his services, listen people.... the man still wants to play football... he still has the heart, give him the oppurtunity in Philly.
Winston Justice, did not do his draft hype, any "JUSTICE" at all..... but im not giving up on the guy, basically he got the gitters against one of the more scary DE's in the league, dosent mean he is a bust, but this certainly dosent give him a free pass, the boy needs to prove he is worth keeping on this team, i still believe he would make for a great Guard in the league but with the emergence of Max Jean-Gilles, i think Winston could jus be future trade bait. Tackle however is not a position i want to address in the first round i believe there is a Tackle you can obtain in the second round named Gosder Cherilus, this man is a behemoth, and i think he could learn alot sitting behind two of the best Tackles in the league and become a disturbing force on the line.
And Lastly Takeo Spikes is due to account for 5million this season against the Eagles cap. Is the man expendable with the showing of Stewart Bradley, It would make for interesting talk of him being traded with the big contract signing of one Asante Samuel. Also against the cap for no good reason, Jerome Mcdougal and Darren Howard, especially with prospect Abiamiri and the signing of Clemons from the Raiders, are McDougal and Howard expendable? These are questions that will be answered sooner or later this season, probably during training camp.
If your and Eagles fan and you read all the way threw this i appologize for the long read, but please if u can leave your comments. It would be greatly appreciated!

Positional Breakdown # 5, THE O-Line!!

i love this guys breakdowns!!
and he's right about them setting up massive holes for BWEST to move !!!! say what u want about the o-line, yeah i remember when they forgot to get on the bus a few times for some games, but for the most part they have done the job.....

The Philadelphia Eagles have emphasized both sides of the line of scrimmage as key points in the Andy Reid era. The Eagles have spent 13 draft picks since 2000 on offensive lineman. Looking at the selections the picks have developed two starters in Shawn Andrews and Todd Herremans. The Eagles have also spent countless picks on players who never developed into solid NFL players like Trey Darilek, Bobbie Williams, Adrian Clarke, John Frank among others. Going back to 1998 you'll also find current tackle William "Tra" Thomas and Jamaal Jackson was an undrafted free agent. Jon Runyan is the only starter not developed through the draft in the Eagles system. Current projects like Winston Justice and Max-Jean Gilles are both too early in their career to pass judgment. I guess what we can take away from this is the Eagles have struck gold with some picks, but it is tough to find quality linemen in the league. It's a hit or miss proposition but the Eagles busts have been in the later rounds so to that effect things have worked out well. Now to take a look at the Eagles O-line.

The offensive line set up massive holes for both Buck and Westbrook to run through on a historic rushing season for the Birds but was at times depleted by injury and vulnerable in pass protection. Were the problems a result of injuries creating a lack of continuity or a greater problem that needs to be addressed?

Tackles:

The Eagles offensive tackle position has been settled in by long-time rocks Jon Runyan and the artist formely known as Tra Thomas, the duo has been teaming up to bookend the line since Runyan's signing in 2000. The duo has been phenomenal in protecting Donovan and his backup for most of their career but recent years is seeing age catch up to the ends. Runyan (34) and Thomas (33) have a lot of miles on their tires and injuries are taking their toll on the duo. Recent years with the picks of Shawn Andrews, Winston Justice, and Max-Jean Gilles are starting to prepare for the post Runyan-Tra era.

Winston Justice was coveted by fans and draft experts as a steal when drafted in the second round by Philadelphia. Projected that year to be a possible top ten pick character issues had Winston fall down the board. Winston's defining moment to date was Osi Umenyiora's destruction of him on a Sunday night game earlier this season. Many fans were calling Winston a bust immediately after the game and while it certainly didn't help, judging a 2nd year player by a game against the league's premiere young pass-rusher isn't fair. The Eagles hung poor Winston out to dry all game long refusing to get blocking help from a tight end or running back. The jury is still out on Winston.

Guards:

The Eagles may be old and near the time to reload at tackle but the Eagles have struck gold with solid guards for years to come. Pro-Bowler Shawn Andrews (25) is now the anchor on the line. Former Division 2 standout from Saginaw Valley State Todd Herremans (25) has been a reliable member of the line now since his drafting.

Max Jean Gilles showed promise when getting playing time and could possibly insert himself into the starting lineup when Runyan/Thomas move on with Andrews or Herremans moving outside. Former BYU standout Scott Young is the other backup on the depth chart and has been around for three seasons. While not getting much playing time he has stuck around for a few years beating out many challengers in training camp. I can't say I see any potential for starting down the line and Young is probably a career backup.

Centers:

The Eagles let go of fan favorite Hank "Jiggles" Fraley two seasons ago in a trade to make room for current starter Jamaal Jackson. Jackson has impressed management so much he got a seven year contract extension and will be the center for years to come. Jackson doesn't get the spotlight the other members of the line do but he has been an improvement on the center position that was mediocre before him. Maybe most importantly with the fellow members of the line all missing playing time Jackson played a full 16 games and provided some continuity on the line.

Backup Nick Cole played in all games, sometimes on special teams or even blocking in goal line situations. I can't say anything about his potential to be a solid backup if Jackson goes down but the fact the Eagles allowed him to block in the goal line show he is doing enough to stick around.

Wrap: The 2008 season should be a productive one from the offensive line if they can be a healthier unit than last season. The concern is not for the upcoming season but in the near future a changing of the guard will occur at the tackle spot. Will Herremans or Andrews move outside making room for promising young guard Gilles? While it may not be a popular move, a first day pick on a lineman is not out of the question.

Freakin iggles....

Well, it has been quite a while since my last post and no I didn't stop posting cause the Eagles have been quite frankly one of the worst teams in the league. I just haven't had Internet access in my new place until a couple days ago. But enough of the chitchat, here's what has been on my mind, or as Jim Rome would say…"Here's what I'm burning on."

As long as I could remember my entire family have been Philadelphia Eagles fans. Born and raised in the city of brotherly love the whole lot of us. But this Eagles team is making hard for us to admit being Birds fans proudly. Not because they're losing. Like I said we're from Philadelphia, we can handle losing. After all we have seen enough losing in our time.

It is not the fact that they're one of the worst teams in the league this year, it is the way that they're losing that bothers the hell out of me. It seems like they simply just have no heart. Now I understand that Donovan McNabb is coming back from an injury. And everyone says it takes a year to recover from that ACL injury. But last week against the Lions he threw up numbers that Peyton Manning wish he could achieve. Then a week later he can't find the end zone to save his life.

Their offensive line who last year was tops in the league seemed to be falling over like a card castle as the slightest wind blew in their direction on Sunday night. The Giants had 12 sacks on Donovan McNabb, no one allows that many sacks in the NFL anymore. Davis Carr and Drew Bledsoe think it is messed up that McNabb had to be sacked that many times.

And don't tell me that Brian Westbrook not being there had anything to do with it. And that if he were there they'd do better. Sure maybe he could have helped a little bit, but losing to the Giants, who had like the worst defense in the league until that point is sad. Winston Justice couldn't block a little league defensive linemen. Let alone Usi Umenyiora. You learn a little something Winston, in Philadelphia you can lose once in a while just don't lose like to the Giants or the Cowboys.

I don't only blame it on the offensive line and Winston Justice I blame it on the coach. Now I know that Andy Reid is going through a lot with his family issues. And I want to be sympathetic and understanding to what the coach is going through but not at the expense of my team. Now Andy has done a lot for us here in Philadelphia so don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the fat man. But if you can't handle it Andy, let it go. This way we can pick up one of the good coaches that are still out there.

Luckily for us Philadelphia sports Phans out there the Phillies took the NL east division this week. So the week wasn't an entire let down. Who'd of thought last year or even last month that the Phillies would be the NL east champions and the Eagles would start the season 1-3? So now in our hour of Eagle darkness we can look towards the Phillies to provide the light.
