So I guess its our fault that we overpaid for the guy and put him a blitz happy defense where he can pin his ears back and have at it. I had respect for the guy until now.

Time to step up, Chris Henry

The Titans' decision to draft a fellow Chris (Chris Johnson) in the first round a few weeks ago should have been a message heard loud and clear by Chris Henry.

Despite being a second round draft selection in 2007, Henry is going to have his work cut out for him as he attempts to become a part of the Titans' running game next season and beyond.

History repeats itself: Titans draft another DE duo

In 2008, the Titans, like 2004, are heading into the season as a playoff team from the previous year and as a result of the free agency departures of Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy, they are yet again faced with the task of replenishing the defensive line. By drafting Jason Jones and William "Big Play" Hayes, the Titans hope to once again begin a youth movement at the DE spot.

Memo to Castro and Titans: Just Do It!

Remember the Dynasty of Dallas one decade ago? Remember the troubled athletes who found success with a balls-to-the-wall coach? Well, those times are on the verge of returning.

After acquiring a few troubled athletes over the past few years (TO and Tank Johnson), the Dallas Cowboys are one step closer to adding another name to their list of Pro Cons: Adam "Pacman" Jones. Yes, I am aware that this is the first time Pacman's name has come up in conversation since his short stint with TNA Wrestling, but Dallas hopes to turn Jones back into the man that was a dangerous defensive threat with the Titans a few years ago.

Unfortunately, there are those who wish that he would just go away. Such as...

This time, Kearse works out with Titans

During his first stint with the Titans, defensive end Jevon Kearse spent big parts of his offseasons working out on his own in Florida.
After rejoining the Titans last month, however, Kearse has been working out regularly at Baptist Sports Park with his new teammates in the offseason-conditioning program.
"He spent time back and forth the first go-around,'' Coach Jeff Fisher said about Kearse, who had 47½ sacks with the Titans from 1999-2003. "But I think (now) he realizes he has a chance to really make an impact and to be the 'comeback player' that he wants to be. And to do so he needs to be here. He has been here working out and doing well.''
At the news conference announcing his return to the Titans, Kearse was almost giddy. Fisher said the veteran, who spent the past four seasons with the Eagles, is still beaming.
"He hasn't settled down yet,'' Fisher said. "He is as excited today as he was when he agreed to terms.''

Cole Wants To Play At Lighter Weight

Trent Cole says he's going to play at a lighter weight this upcoming season.
Coles says his speed is the key to his performance so he feels he could be even better at five to ten pounds lighter. That's fine as long as he doesn't decide to got down to 230 like Jevon Kearse did last year.

Cole was one of the consistent performer the Eagles had on the field last year. He plays with a passion that needs to get contagious on the football team.

I found out Trent loves to hunt so I told him a couple of years ago that his nickname shoud be the "HUNTER". This dude hunts der and all kinds of animals with a bow and arrow. Now I will admit that it's not a regular bow and arrow but it's still a bow and arrow. I told him he was crazy.

The Titans have several options in the draft

There is a general consensus that there are three areas of need the Titans need to address in this draft. The Titans need help at receiver, defensive end and defensive tackle. We've had some good discussion here on Total Titans about the various receivers who might be drafted and I'd like to expand the discussion to include the other possibilities...

Drexel's Tennessee Titan Seven Round Mock Draft

We're only a couple of weekends away from one of the league's most anticipated offseason events: the NFL Draft.
During this time of the year, NFL fans are bombarded with a seemingly unlimited amount of mock drafts.
Here is one man's take on what the Titans will do on draft day:

Eagles Free Agency, Draft, Etc..

Okay, so far this offseason we've really seen the Eagles go on the defensive. With the signings of CB/Asante Samuel, DE/Chris Clemons, LB/Rocky Boiman the team has made it a point to go out and get what they feel is necessary to make them more complete in order to get to that next level. Aside from the lone offensive signing of the offseason in Dan Klecko we really haven't changed much offensively. Sure, he will compete with Jason Davis at FB and certainly provide more pass protection as well as run blocking for the ball carrier.

Now, the signings all make sense but have to make you wonder about the direction of the team in the coming month or so. The release of Jevon Kearse was defniitely anticipated and was quickly overshadowed by the signing of Clemons. The addition of Boiman fills that void of a veteran LB presence (Takeo Spikes) in the event that someone goes down or just needs some guidance. He may challenge for a starting spot, most likely against Gocong but more than likely this was a signing with positional depth in mind. Of course Asante is here to help create turnovers and to shut down the other team's No.1 receiver. With all of this being said.. how does this roster look 2 months down the road? Do we all expect some trades to go down? Possibly. Can we expect another under the radar signing or two before draft day? Also possible. I really don't see us adding another starter before draft day but there are some guys still out on the market that can be key role players and provide competition on a roster that doesn't have any glaring holes.

Yes, I understand everyone's "Need" for a WR but I really don't think it's a must have to take this team over the top. It's pretty safe to say that we'll grab a WR in the draft, possibly in the 1st round even, depends on the value of the pick and who is sitting there on the board. We're going to have an abundance of picks come draft day and I don't know how we can possibly keep even 8 of them seeing how we'll have anywhere between 10-12. Our needs in my opinion based on need goes in this order: S, OT, WR, DT, DE, CB - - Obviously in most of these positions they will be players to be groomed and not play right away, especially at Safety and OT. We need more depth behind Bunk and Patterson and we need to find that guy to play opposite of Cole. Our need for a CB will definitely jump forward if we trade Lito. These are just some of my thoughts on a slow day in the NFL, even with the signing of Boiman which I do like because I've read some pretty good things about him. Feel free to leave some feedback in response to my thoughts. Just remember that in the end, no matter what.. LET'S GO BIRDS!!!!

Grading Titan free agency moves

Free agency has been upon us for a little less than a month. Unlike franchises such as the Raiders and the Jets, that have threw seemingly countless dollars at free agents in their attempts to transform into playoff contenders, the Titans have adopted a slow and steady approach to improving their ballclub.

Here's my take on how the Titans should be graded for the moves they have made in free agency thus far:

Philadelphia Eagles - the team to beat in the NFC East?

I admit that I have been critical of the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. After an 8-8 season, I had high hopes for improvements and enhancements at several key positions. The fact of the matter is that the Eagles were the worst team in the division last season. However, the more I look at the other teams in the division, the brighter things look in 2008 for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mike Reinfeldt is OK with me

It was easy for Titans fans to be upset with new GM Mike Reinfeldt a year ago and I was among those voicing their displeasure.

The new GM had the temerity to place "dollar values" on players, as if calculating their worth as assets on a balance sheet. I was critical when the Titans lost their leading rusher and two leading receivers in free agency because other teams made better offers to them.

Hindsight shows that Reinfeldt was right, at least in the short-term, which was the 2007 season. Travis Henry, Drew Bennett and Bobby Wade posted less than impressive stats last year and the teams who paid big bucks for them certainly got much less than they bargained for...
