Greinke Speaks

Jeff Protzel sends a link to an interview with Zack Greinke concerning his Cy Young award. At about 8:30 into the interview he starts talking about Brian Bannister and sabermetrics, how Zack now concentrates on walks, home runs and strikeouts. At about 9:55 he says:

“That’s pretty much how I pitch, to try to [...]

I’m in Las Vegas on one my annual (ahem) fact-finding missions this week, and though I’ve yet to secure a ticket for tomorrow night’s welterweight title bout between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, I can happily report bobbleheads of the two combatants are available in most of the hotel gift shops for a measly $40.
Already Down Meche, Royals Await News on Brian Bannister

Brian Bannister may be the latest Royal to have his season end prematurely due to injury. Yes, those terribly unlucky Royals just can't catch a break! I'm stunned that one of the most retrograde teams in the game would have a worn down pitching staff by September.

Per the Associated Press:

Royals starter Gil Meche is probably done for the year with a shoulder problem, and fellow right-hander Brian Bannister is flying to New York for a second opinion on his shoul...

Royals notebook: Bannister says shoulder fatigue has grown progressively worse

OAKLAND, Calif. | Brian Bannister wants to remain optimistic about taking his next scheduled turn in the Royals’ rotation, but he sure sounds like a guy in need of a break. Bannister admitted Wednesday to growing shoulder fatigue after lasting just 1 1/3 innings in a 10-4 loss to Oakland that stretched his personal winless streak to six starts.

Why Bannister Left

Brian Bannister left Wednesday’s game against the Athletics after 1 1/3 innings due to shoulder fatigue.

“It’s soreness in my back and shoulder,” he said. “I’ve just been fighting through it. It’s not a sharp pain, so I don’t think it’s anything serious. But it’s really hard to go out there when I know I don’t [...]

Bannister Leaves Early

Brian Bannister had a rough first inning, allowing three runs, but leaves after getting the first batter in the second on a pop out. That sounds like an injury to me. The game is not on Extra Innings. I’ll see what I can find out.

Well, at least Brian McClure can appreciate Brian Bannister's start today: he got a mythical pitcher win, thanks to a fluky four run "outburst" from the Royals offense, which was mostly fueled by errors and infield hits.
Bannister delivered another strong start -- 7 IP, 5 Hs, 0 BBs, 7 Ks, 0 Rs -- and now owns a 3.59 ERA. Last season, Bannister manage...

Is $650K really holding the Yanks back from a pitcher they might need?

ESPN Insider has a report that the Yankees asked the Royals about RHP Brian Bannister today, but the talks "went nowhere" because the Yanks asked the Royals to pay the around $650,000 of the money left his contract for this season. Clearly the Royals weren't too fond of the idea.Earlier this week (or maybe last week) the Yanks were discussing a deal with the Reds for Bronson Arroyo and asked if they would pick up some of his $17 million contract. That I can understand, but missi...

Carp has yet to give up more than 3 runs in a start so far this season, but he's given up 3 in each of his last 2 starts. It helps his cause today that only the White Sox and Mariners in the AL have scored fewer runs per game than the Royals. I hate Brian Bannister. He shut us down earlier this year and, though he has a 4.01 ERA against us for his career, he's 3-1 against us. I hate getting beat by slo...
