Johnny Sauter North Carolina Education Lottery 200 Race Recap

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Johnny Sauter’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ championship hopes took a serious lick Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway, by way of a 28th-place Did Not Finish caused by a seemingly deliberate wreck.
Sauter, who had rebounded to fifth place with 31 laps to go after nearly going a lap down due to a lengthy pit stop to open the No. 98 Carolina Nut Co. / Curb Records Toyota’s hood to make a severe chassis adjustment, was knocked out of the race on the 115th lap when defending series champion James Buescher ran into the back of Sauter’s truck exiting Turn 4 and knocked it into the outside wall.
Sauter crossed the start/finish line, then limped the truck through the quarter-mile short track on Charlotte’s frontstretch and directly into the garage area to retire with extensive damage.
The poor finish broke a string of four consecutive top-five finishes — including winning the first two races of the season — by Sauter and his team. Even worse, it dropped him fro...

Sauter penalized for Kansas infraction

Johnny Sauter lost the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points lead on Wednesday after NASCAR penalized him for an illegal fuel cell at Kansas.

Sauter was docked 25 points by NASCAR. It knocked him from first place into a second-place tie with Jeb Burton, 13 points behind new leader Matt Crafton.

Crafton and Sauter are teammates at ThorSport Racing.

The illegal fuel cell was found on the No. 98 Toyota during an opening-day inspection and was not used in the race. NASCAR also suspended crew chief Joe Shear four races and fined him $10,000.

Sauter won the first two races of the season and finished fifth at Kansas. He's finished fifth or better in all four Truck Series races this season.

Sauter Loses Points Lead After Penalty For Unapproved Fuel Cell

By: Toby Christie – Follow on Twitter @tobalical
Johnny Sauter’s incredible season has all of a sudden hit a stumbling block. The driver of the No. 98 truck in the Camping World Truck Series, who was the point leader following Kansas, will not be the point leader anymore after being stripped of 25 points for an unapproved fuel cell.
In addition, his team Thorsport has also been docked 25 points, and his crew chief, Joel Shear, will be suspended for the next four races, he’s been fined $10,000, and he’ll be on probation until December 31st.
The illegal fuel cell was discovered in opening day inspection at Kansas.
If you’re curious to the exact infraction in the NASCAR rule book, NASCAR released the following statement Wednesday:
“The No. 98 truck was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4K (if in the judgment of NASCAR Officials, race equipment that has been previously verified or previously approved and/or sealed by NASCAR for use i...

Fuel cell on Sauter's truck seized

Inspectors confiscated the fuel cell from Truck Series points leader Johnny Sauter this weekend at Kansas Speedway and will review it the first part of next week.

NASCAR did not say what issue was found with the fuel cell, which was taken Thursday during the opening day inspection. Any potential penalties would also be handed down next week.

Sauter won the first two races of the season at Daytona and Martinsville, and finished fourth at Rockingham. He stayed out of trouble in a crash-filled race Saturday at Kansas to finish fifth, maintaining a 12-point lead over Matt Crafton in the series standings.

Crafton held off Joey Coulter over the final 20 laps to win Saturday's race.

Johnny Sauter SFP 250 Race Preview

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Johnny Sauter’s the highest-rated NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver over the past eight years at Kansas Speedway, he loves the greater Kansas City area and he won the 2010 SFP 250.
So it’s no wonder — despite the uncertainty surrounding the Truck Series’ first visit to the track that was repaved last year and re-configured to include “progressive banking,” that Sauter — whose No. 98 Carolina Nut Co. / Curb Records Toyota holds a comfortable lead in the series’ standings thanks to two wins and a fourth-place finish in the season’s first four races — is fired-up to be in chilly Kansas.
“Kansas is one of those places I just like going to, in general,” said Sauter, who leads the Truck Series’ standings by 16 points over Jeb Burton and 20 over his ThorSport teammate, third-place Matt Crafton. “I like that part of the country a lot. I spent a lot of time there when I drove for (sponsor) Yellow Transportation and it’s just a good part of the country… It remin

Sauter poised for NASCAR history at Rockingham

ThorSport Racing driver Johnny Sauter is on the cusp of creating NASCAR history Sunday at Rockingham Speedway. So setting aside the passion that Sauter brings to every second he's practicing his craft, as he prepares to attempt to win his third consecutive NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race to begin this season -- he's just Johnny being Johnny.

And that's a driver that's committed, focused and living in a real world in which effort is usually rewarded with results. That's why Sauter and his veteran crew chief, Joe Shear Jr., are basically dismissing their No. 98 Carolina Nut Co. / Curb Records Toyota's wins at Daytona and Martinsville and looking only at this weekend.

And if he's able to win, Sauter will become the first driver in any NASCAR national touring series to win the first three races of the season. Sauter's currently tied with Mark Martin, who previously won two in 2006 in the Truck Series, Tony Stewart and Chad Little accomplished...

Sauter's Martinsville win pads point lead

If Johnny Sauter goes on to win the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series' championship, he might look back on Saturday's Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway as a critical turning point.

Sauter became the second driver in the 19-year history of the Truck Series to win the first two events of the season, tying the veteran Mark Martin, who accomplished the feat in 2006 when he ran a partial schedule for owner Jack Roush.

Six weeks earlier, Sauter won the season opener at Daytona International Speedway. To win at Martinsville, Sauter overcame a body-damaged No. 98 Carolina Nut Co. / Curb Records Toyota truck, debilitating tire wear and a mid-race pit stop that put his truck in the middle of the field and its driver, well, nearly beside himself.

But Sauter recovered his composure and set about getting back to the front, from where he led only the last 17 laps of the day. His performance had his crew chief, Joe Shear Jr., marveling at the growth his driver's showing th...

Sauter’s Hot Start Continues With Kroger 250 Win At Martinsville Speedway

Johnny Sauter’s hot start to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season continued Saturday afternoon with a win in the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
The win gave Sauter a sweep of the first two races of the season. He won the opener at Daytona five weeks ago and with Saturday’s win he became only the second driver in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series history to win the first two races of the season. Mark Martin won the first two races of the 2006 season.
“We typically run well here, so our expectations are high. Yesterday (Friday practice) was no different. The truck was really fast off the hauler,” Sauter said after his second Martinsville Speedway victory. “We knew today was going to be about tire management, more so than I ever remember here. So the first part of the race we ran about 80 percent and tried not to lose too much track position.
“Later on after our first pit stop, we were around eighth and still riding. After the next pit stop with 100 to go we were 18th and I w...

Johnny Sauter won the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. It was his second win of the season. Sauter won the season opening race at Daytona prior to the off weeks.
Matt Crafton finished second ahead of Jeb BUrton in a race that featured a series of single truck spins at the shortest track on the NASCAR circuit.
The race started with youngster Burton on the pole. On lap 105 he would get into the rear of Ron Hornaday spinning the No. 9 truck and retaking the lead.
