My top 10 picks for Watkins Glen.

Our 2nd and final road course race is upon us, as the NNS and NSCS travel to Watkins Glen. There are several favorites among fans to win this race. My number 1 pick has 4 wins here and is none other than Tony Stewart! After running 2nd to Carl Edwards this past weekend at Pocono, Tony seems poised to pick up his first win of the season and what a better place to do it than at Watkins Glen. Other favorites to win are Jeff Gordon, who also has 4 wins at the Glen, Carl Edwards, who has to win at the Glen, but looked damn good at Sonoma earlier this year, Mark "the kid" Martin, not only a sentimental favorite, but he does know how to win at the Glen, visiting victory lane 3 times in his career. Kyle Busch could indeed be a factor at the Glen as well as Jimmie Johnson. The road course specialists, Boris Said, Ron Fellows ( who won at Gilles Villenuve in Montreal last weekend). Patrick Carpentier could easily win at the Glen. Kevin Harvick could use the win in the worst of ways since he and Clint Bowyer, his teammate are 11th and 12 in the point standings. I'm hoping Jr. could possibly pull out some kind of lucky win, but i really just hope he can walk away from the Glen with a top 10 finish. Good luck to all drivers this weekend at Watkins Glen.

Edwards Flips at Pocono

Carl Edwards got to do his trademark backflip this past weekend at Pocono. This is Edward's 4th victory of the year, but only three of them will count towards the bonus points in the chase. Recall earlier this year, he was found with an infraction and the penalty was to take away the bonus points from that race.ShareThis

Edwards gets fourth win

Carl Edwards won Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway, gambling with a pit strategy that he thought would cost him the victory.

Edwards pitted from the lead just before a rain shower that caused a 41-minute red flag and had the driver arguing with crew chief Bob Osborne over the decision. But the plan worked perfectly as the race wound up going to completion. Edwards stretched his last tank of fuel to earn his fourth victory of the season.

''I was really nervous that we made the wrong call there,'' Edwards said after doing his traditional victory backflip off his car. ''Bob's the smartest guy in the world. We were really arguing. We made light of it, but we thought we made the wrong call.''

The race started in sunshine and it appeared Mark Martin, who took the lead from pole-winner Jimmie Johnson at the start and took control would be the driver to beat all day. But Martin had problems on two pit stops that put him back into the pack and then dark clouds began moving in, changing some strategies.

Rain began falling on lap 127 of the 200-lap event and, moments later, Edwards and several other leaders ducked onto pit road. Nineteen other drivers, led by June Pocono winner Kasey Kahne and Martin, who led a race-high 55 laps, stayed out to gain track positon, waiting to see if the rain might end the race prematurely.

But, despite more threatening clouds and a few raindrops later in the event, the racing continued and Edwards found himself back on top for good when Martin, the last of the drivers on the alternate strategy, had to finally pit on lap 187.

Then Edwards, who made his final stop at the end of lap 166, just had to worry if he had enough gas to get to the end.

Edwards inherited a 5.6-second lead and built it to more than 7 seconds as Osborne kept telling his driver on the radio to take it easy and save fuel. He did ease up over the last few laps and made it easily, beating Tony Stewart by almost 4 seconds -- half the front straightaway on the 2.5-mile trioval.

Stewart and third-place finisher Jimmie Johnson, coming off a victory last week in Indianapolis, were both on the same strategy as Edwards. Johnson was one of several drivers who coasted across the finish line, out of gas.

Kevin Harvick, who crashed with Joe Nemechek on the first lap, came back to finish fourth, just ahead of David Ragan.

Kahne wound up seventh and Martin eighth.

The victory vaulted Edwards from fifth to third in the season standings, trailing only Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch, who also leads with seven victories. Busch made a gas stop on lap 199 and fell from fourth to 36th, the last driver on the lead lap. But he still owns a 176-point lead over Earnhardt, who finished 12th.

With only five races remaining until the start of the Chase for the championship, Harvick jumped from 13th to 11th, switching places with former Cup champion Matt Kenseth, who finished 11th Sunday. The top 12 drivers are eligible for the 10-race Chase.

Edwards takes checkers at Pocono.

Carl Edwards led the field to the checkered flag today at the Sunoco Red Cross Penn. 500 at Pocono. Joe Nemecheck got into Kevin Harvick on lap 1, causing both cars to spin out On lap 7 Kurt Busch spun out on his own on the front stretch to bring out the second caution. 2 cautions before we even made it to the lap 20 competition yellow!! Come on guys! Rain on lap 131 brought a red flag and a halt to the race. On lap 138 Joe Nemecheck and Paul Menard get together in turn 2 bringing out the 7th and final caution of the day. The 99, 20, 88, and others made their final pit stop with 35 to go. Carl Edwards resumed the lead following green flag stops and led from there on to bring home the checkered flag for his fourth win this year, even though 3 count come chase time. Tony Stewart finished 2nd with Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick, and David Ragan rounding out the top 5. Clint Bowyer, Kasey Khane, Mark Martin, Jaime McMurray, and Jeff Gordon are your top ten. Kenseth was 11th and Dale Jr. finished in 12 after running out of gas in turn 3 on the final lap running 4th. Gordon and Johnson also ran out of gas coming to the checkers.

Tires Steal Show at 15th Running of Brickyard
