As the decade of the 2000s draws to a close, we're looking back at the greatest NASCAR moments, events and stories of the last 10 years. We begin with the most successful drivers of the decade -- bearing in mind, we're ranking them on what they've done this decade, not before that. And yes, you already know who's #1.1. Jimmie Johnson: Like you expected anything different. Four championships, 47 wins and 180 top-10 finishes over just nine years. He's staked out one of the m...

How Jeff Gordon could still win the Sprint Cup championship*

The Sprint Cup championship is all but sewn up for Jimmie Johnson, but there's still an outside chance Mark Martin could win. With a single race left, Mark Martin is 108 points behind Johnson. Using this points system as a guide, we break it down.If Johnson finishes 25th or better, the Chase is over. Martin can't win even if he finishes first and leads the most laps.If Johnson finishes 30th, Martin would have to win the race, but he could go without leading the most laps. And if Johnso...

From the Couch: Where have you gone, Jeff Gordon?

"Gordon hurts back in big crash," read the headline, causing me a moment of acute hyperventilation. I hadn't checked the Internet since I followed The Jays' racecast (which definitely helps the Mondays), so I thought this was breaking news. But just as I was steadying myself for a NASCAR without my driver, the article popped up and told me what I already knew: Gordon hasn't been hit that hard since Brooke Sealy took him for half.Gordon wins the most obvious answer award ...

Gordon's back stiff after Watkins Glen accident

Four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon has a stiff back a day after a spectacular accident at Watkins Glen.

Gordon has been bothered by an aching back for more than a year, and the hard impact from Monday's accident increased his discomfort. But he says he'll be ready to race this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.

Jeff Burton says the accident left him sore all over on Tuesday, while the crew chief for Sam Hornish Jr. says his driver is surprised at how well he feels.

Jeff Gordon, Hornish somehow escape injury in scary wreck

Watkins Glen has had its share of scary, even fatal wrecks; cars have a tendency to carom off the walls in strange directions and pop right back onto the track. Monday afternoon's race was no exception; Kasey Kahne bumped Sam Hornish Jr., who proceeded to absolutely demolish Jeff Gordon's car: Man. That's the kind of wreck that'll make someone start thinking about a higher power. And that view from Jeff Gordon's car -- that gives you an idea of how fast these guys are goin...
