Kevin Huber is on pace to shatter the NFL single-season record for punts inside-the-20

Lost in all the hubbub after beating the Green Bay Packers in a genocidal effort to cause all Bengals fans to have a collective heart attack, Bengals punter Kevin Huber isn't just fulfilling all of the accolades he earned in college. He's actually making a difference. A fifth round draft pick, Huber was selected higher than Bernard Scott and Morgan Trent, two guys that have a decent future in the NFL as, at least, backup role players. Huber, isn't a backup role player. He's ...

Strength in numbers; an examination of who the Bengals started the regular season since 2006

When the preseason marches towards a welcomed conclusion, discussion and debate takes place on who the team cuts and keeps. Sometimes the topic goes into salary cap causalities; veterans that are cut, like Willie Anderson and Rudi Johnson last year. Other times, the debate talks about players that surprisingly make the roster. As jsl413 broke down, the Bengals depth is strong in some areas, weak in others. Which means the Bengals could strengthen weaken positions by increasing the depth. ...

If you're one of those truly hardcore fans, like Bengals fans that sit at work, hitting F5 on their browser to refresh Cincy Jungle for the latest updates, most likely you've heard of the gang at Football Outsiders. We've referenced them a lot during the season to qualify and solidify our arguments. Every year they've released a book which provides their modern formulaic stats, projections, and detailed summary and analysis of each team. There really isn't a better boo...

Will the Punting Game Improve?

It’s hard to get excited when your own punt team takes the field. Aside from the rare fake, the occasional “running into the punter” penalty or a turnover by the receiving team, it’s usually a sad sight to behold. You’re giving your opponent the football and then maybe even seeing them get a nice return. But it’s not a trivial part of the game. You’re talking about plays where huge chunks of yardage are exchanged. If you pin your opponents deep consistently, you make the defense’s job that m...

Bengals Cut Kyle Larson, Ryan Plackemeier

After drafting University of Cincinnati punter Kevin Huber in the fifth round last weekend, the Cincinnati Bengals have cut incumbent punter Kyle Larson.
Larson, statistically the league’s worst punter last season, had just signed a new deal with the Bengals in 2008.
Plackemeier was picked up on waivers in February.
With these cuts, seven Bengals have hit the [...]

Bengals 7 Round Mock Draft

The staff of NFLDraft101.com conducted their 2nd annual 7 round mock draft this weekend and the results for the Bengals were encouraging although the 6th position in round one proved to be as difficult decision as tackles Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe were both off the board. After debating Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, Everette Brown, Michael Oher and Andre Smith, the staff settled on the year's biggest boom-bust candidate in OT Andre Smith based on need and position scarcity.
Solid Defense and Efficent Offense Equals 24-7 Win in Cincy

Putting a week of distractions behind them, the Titans moved to 2-0 Sunday with a complete 24-7 thumping of the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. The Titans defense stuffed the opponent for the second straight week, this time holdig the Bengals to just 215 yards and 27:26 in the time of possession.
Tennessee was led by an efficent game for backup QB Kerry Collins, playing for an injured Vince Young. Collins went 14-for-21 for 128 yards and one TD. Rookie RB Chris Johnson again had a good day for the Titans, as he ran for 109 yards on 19 carried. LenDale White rushed for 59 yards and a score.
The Bengals again were not very good, as Carson Palmer was rushed quite a bit, and he ended the day going just 16-for-27 for 134 yards and two interceptions. Palmer has in two games thrown for less than 250 yards. Chris Perry had a better day than last week again the Ravens, but again was not all that effective, going for 64 yards on 21 carries with a TD.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Titans struck first as White went on from a yard out to make it 7-0 with 11:06 to play in the half. The drive took 11 plays and 61 yards. The Bengals tied it on a Perry TD from 13 yards out with 3:16 left in the half. The 11-play, 63-yard drive took 4:39.
The Titans answered right away on a drive that really put the game away. Johnson put on the speed for 51 yards, and then the drive ended with a niffty 11-yard TD pass from Collins to Justin Gage that gave Tennessee a 14-7 lead. The Bengals took their first possession of the second half and went to the Titans 19, but Shayne Graham hit the upright with a field goal, which ended the threat.
From there the Titans drove from their 28 to the Cincy 16 with some good plays by Collins and Johnson rushing for 8 yards which set up Rob Bironas for a 34-yard field goal that made it 17-7. The game was put out of reach early in the 4th when the Titans blocked a Kyle Larson punt from the Cincy 1 that was recovered by Keith Bulluck of the Titans to make it 24-7.
While the Cincy offense was still in stall mode, the Titans were again very good on both sides of the ball, good enough to earn a tough road win at a place where they were blown out last season. The Bengals are headed for 0-3, as they travel to New York for the Giants next week, while the Titans take on the 0-1 Texans at home.

I Love the Bengals

And for that matter, so do the police. Deltha O'Neal made it eight Bengals who have been arrested since last December. I like eight, but I would also like to see them make it a nice round number like ten. Can we convince Carson Palmer to do something stupid? What about punter Kyle Larson? Ryan already addressed that punters have to be crazy, so he seems a perfect fit.
