Mikell, 32, was released by the team back in March in order to free up some cap space after the two sides reportedly failed to reach an agreement on a restructured contract. Safety remains a need for the Rams even after they drafted USC S T.J. McDonald in the third-round. Mikell would likely have to accept a role as a backup if he were to return to St Louis next season and could even be asked to take help out on special teams. A few plays after wide receiver Danny Amendola left the game, starting strong safety Quintin Mikell was helped off the field after hitting his head in a collision with his own teammate. Mikell's head and neck hit the knee of linebacker Josh Hull on a play late in the second quarter. He laid on the field for a few moments, surrounded by training staff. It silenced what had been a rowdy crowd. Mikell did eventually get up and walk off the field without any additional assistance.
