Can Gholston Make an Impact in Year Two?

“I know one thing: He is going to be a major contributor for us.” -quote about Vernon Gholston taken from http://www.newyorkjets.com
I recall cheering the heck out of our Vernon Gholston pick just a year ago, how far we have fallen. I still believe, yes fans I said it, “I still believe”. Apparently so does Rex [...]

My Jets Wish List: Vernon Gholston to Not Be Irrelevent

I think it's pretty safe to assume that expectations for the #6 pick in an NFL draft are not 13 total tackles but that's exactly what Vernon Gholston gave the New York Jets last season. In essence Gholston was a complete non factor. He recorded zero sacks and the majority of his 13 tackles came on special teams. He was even inactive for multiple games including a 3 game stretch from week 14 to week 16. Not what you're paying $40 million dollars over five years for. This is why I&#...

Jets DE Vernon Gholston To Have Big Year In 2009?

For the second year in a row, the New York Jets expect Vernon Gholston to be an impact player. Jets fans would settle for barely noticeable. "I would...

Ryan Puts Gholston on Notice for 2009

From: Newsday
Vernon Gholston, you’re on notice. For the second straight day, a Jets coach discussed in blunt terms the team’s top draft pick last year. After being introduced as coach Wednesday, Rex Ryan told Jets beat reporters that Gholston will have to “humble himselfâ€* and be open to coaching. “We hope he can be a [...]

Finally the Draft is here

What's up, Yardbarkers?

Just wanted to check in with the Yard on the night before the Draft. It's been a big week out here in the Big Apple, not just for me but also for Glenn Dorsey, Matt Ryan, Vernon Gholston, Chris Long and of course #1 pick Jake Long (congratulations, man). I've been loving New York and the whole Draft experience. I came out a couple days before the other guys on my own to spend some time with some kids from the new york parks department and talk about fitness and exercise. They were fun and Paramount gave them some tickets to go see Iron Man before it comes out on May 2nd. It feels like we've done so many things these last two days. A Nike fitness event with kids from New York City. I got to go to Wall Street. I stood on top of the Radio City Hall marquee and had my picture taken. I met with a bunch of producers from ESPN and also a lot of people from the league, too. I feel like I know exactly what to expect tomorrow... except what team I'll be going to. I'm excited but also really tired. I'm ready to be a running back in the National Football League.

Today we had a chance to visit Mt. Sinai Children's Hospital and talk to some kids there. I loved it. We played some pool, some of the guys played Nintendo Wii boxing, and one of the kids was shooting baskets and impressing all of us football players with how good he was. He made 12 out of 13 at one point. His name was R.J. and he was only eight years old. What's up, R.J. Hope you're reading this!

Tonight I just chilled. I finally got a chance to meet up with some friends who came out to show their support. We just grabbed a steak and walked around the city to do a little shopping.

Impatiently, the Raider Nation waits for the NFL Draft

The beer is on ice. The Raider fans are sharpening their spikes and getting the face paint ready. April's answer to the Super Bowl is two days away. Now all the eyes are on the teams with the worst records from the past season. The passions are high in the Raider Nation as the fans are arguing like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton over whether to pick Darren McFadden, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, or trade their pick.

Raiders' Al Davis Intent On Drafting Darren McFadden? - GridironFans.com

ESPN's Bill Williamson reports there are "major rumblings" that Raiders owner Al Davis will take Darren McFadden with the No. 4 overall pick. If Lane Kiffin says Oakland doesn't need another tailback, Davis is probably thinking the exact opposite. Davis loves measurables, and other than Vernon Gholston, no one has better on-paper numbers than the Arkansas runner. Kiffin is likely hoping for a defensive lineman, but he isn't calling any shots.
