Seahawks Slammed in New York by Champion Giants 44-6

In case you were wondering if all would be well after the bye week for the Seahawks - don't hold your breath.A Sunday at the Meadowlands the Hawks basically didn't show up, as they were totally outplayed and dominated by the World Champion Giants 44-6.A The Hawks showed little on offense, and even less on defense.A It was a 'slap in your face' type of outing that right now would be winless if it were not for the St.Louis Rams.
Nothing went right all day for Seattle.A They were down 14-3 about 11 minutes into the game, and by then you could tell it was going to be a struggle just to hang with New York.A After two more John Carney field goals and a Brandon Jacobs one-yard plunge, the Hawks were down 27-3 with less than a minute to go in the first half.A Olindo Mare did kick a 29-yard field goal to make it look as if the team was in the game at 27-6 at the half.
It made no difference, as Eli Manning, who went 19-for-25 for 267 yards with two TD's for New York, threw another TD in the third, this time 23 yards to Sinorice Moss to make it 34-6.A Backup David Carr ended the awful day for Seattle, as even he threw a TD with 9:25 left in the game to Moss to make it 44-6.
The numbers speak for themselves.A They were outgained 523 to 187.A They went 1-for-11 on third downs, had just 13 first downs (4 on penalites), and had the ball just 23:32.A Simply put, there is something wrong with the team right now, and if Mike Holmgren and the staff does not get it right, repeating as NFC West Champs is going to be a tough task.
Matt Hasselbeck played on a hyperextended right knee after the 4th play, and went 11-for-21 for 105 yards with one pick and a QB rating of 46.7.A Juilus Jones may have been the only bright spot, rushing 17 times for 61 yards, and earning every inch.A Seattle (1-3) will limp home to take on the equally as struggling 2-3 Green Bay Packers next Sunday.

Fantasy Football Weekly Recap - Week 5

With 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Houston Texans' fans were more than ready to celebrate their team's first win of 2008. After all, they were up 10 on the Indianapolis Colts and had the ball. Then, the unthinkable happened. QB Sage Rosenfels, who was filling in for the flu-ridden, Matt Schaub, fumbled not once but twice, leading to two Colts touchdowns and a 31-27 loss for the Texans. Just as games can swing so quickly in the NFL, so too can they in fantasy football. In fact, even with just one game left on the docket for week 5, plenty of owners going to bed tonight thinking they have their game in the bag may not be so happy tomorrow if Drew Brees or Adrian Peterson go off. But, that's what makes this game so beautiful. Now, onto the Week 5 Weekly Words.

Manning Masterful

With the New York Giants suspending wide receiver Plaxico Burress for insubordination for their week 5 match-up against the Seattle Seahawks, there were questions as to how Eli Manning would perform without his favorite target. Perhaps a younger Eli would have struggled, lacking the confidence to get the job done. But, in taking the Giants through the playoffs last season to a Super Bowl championship, Manning matured and is a different quarterback than he was in the past....

WR Moss Continues to Stand Out in Practice

Reports continue to pour in about the strong camp that wide out Sinorice Moss is having for the champion Giants. In an evening practice, Moss put on a burst of speed to catch up to an Eli Manning pass for a TD catch in the teams practice. Moss is making the most of his chances with both Plax Burress and Amani Toomer banged up, and if he can get in the game on third downs this year as the teams 3rd or 4th wide out, look for Manning to not hesitate to go to him in pressure situations just based on the type of camp he's had so far.

Fantasy Football Analysis: New York Giants

As a diehard Giants fan I am going to break down the fantasy impact from the defending Super Bowl Champions for 2008-09.
Quarterback: Eli Manning emerged late last season, going on a run of epic proportions. Manning led the Giants on the road to Tampa Bay, Dallas, Green Bay and Phoenix for the Super Bowl to beat the Bucs, Cowboys, Packers and Patriots. His leadership skills are not questioned, what is questioned is his on field decision making. He threw only one interception in the postseason, but he threw 20 in the regular season. Eli is coming along but he is not a top tier guy, yet. He will be around in the middle rounds of your draft, but don't take him ahead of David Garrard, Ben Roethlisberger, Donovan McNabb or the equivilant. Backing up Manning this season will be either David Carr or Anthony Wright, avoid at all costs.
Running Back: Brandon Jacobs just barely eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark last season, battling injuries along the way. This moves Jacobs, a bigtime touchdown threat, out of the first 10 or so running backs and into that second round, early third round area. He is a great pick though as the Giants are a run-heavy team and will give the big man lots of carries. The area that still needs to be decided in who backs up Jacobs. Both Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw played well last season backing up Jacobs. Ward ran for over 600 yards in his time and Bradshaw came on late to provide some speed when Ward went down. Problem is they will probably split the backup carries, making neither of them a strong fantasy play.
Wide Receiver: Plaxico Burress is an elite receiver. He is the big man on the Giants roster and is numero uno in the red zone, see Super Bowl winning TD. Burress is a strong pick in the second or third rounds. After him there will be a big fall off to Amani Toomer, Steve Smith, David Tyree, Sinorice Moss and rookie Mario Manningham. Smith emerged late and Toomer was hurt last season. They will both see probably 30-35 catches this year, but not many touchdowns, maybe five between them. Tyree and Manningham will be non-factors.
Tight End: Kevin Boss has become a very important late-round draftpick with the trade of Jeremy Shockey. Manning likes to use his tight ends and Boss proved last season he can make the big play when necessary. Boss isn't worth drafting ahead of more proven veterans but if he is on the board in one of the final rounds, he is worth grabbing and stashing if you have space.
Kicker: Lawrence Tynes is good, but not great. It's fantasy football and kickers are not important, if he's there you can get him, he will get a lot of chances to score, but he didn't have a great FG percentage last season.
Defense: The Giants defense is one of the five best in the game. They will get you a ton of sacks, even without Michael Strahan, and will cause a lot of fumbles. They are prone to giving up some big points but will make plays all over the field. Their defensive backs should have decent INT numbers this season with Aaron Ross, Corey Webster, Sam Madison and Kenny Phillips out there.

Toomer and Smith Miss Practice with Injuries

The Giants have another wide out on the sidelines, as veteran Amani Toomer missed practice today with swelling in his left leg. The team is already without Plaxico Burress, who is still trying to get his ankle back up to speed. Also missing the workout today was WR Steve Smith, who had general soreness. Domenik Hixon and Sinorice Moss lined up with the first team today while Burress, Toomer and Smith watched practice.

Why are the Giants Super Bowl champs? Because they draft so well

The draft is so essential to a team's success that its importance can't be undermined. One reason the Giants are Super Bowl champs is because they've been great in the draft. In this article, I compare the Eagles last four draft classes to the Giants to see where the Eagles went wrong.

When they open a restaurant, and don't be surprised if they do, you ought to make it a point to get there. Wherever it is.

Giants vs. Jaguars: Gangbang Anthems and Injuries

The Giants offensive woes in last week's loss to Chicago weren't only because Eli choked and Coughlin is such a bad coach, but due to Armani Toomer's absence. Luckily for NY, Sinorice Moss might finally start on Monday. More on this, and the U of Miami gangbang anthem revisited.

NY Giants Offensive Preview

I agree with this blogger (great writeup on NY's offensive prospects) that the Giants O should continue to get better in '06. Head coach Tom Coughlin, offensive coordinator John Hufnagel and QB Eli Manning are all entering their third season with the team. NY is returning all five of their offensive lineman and Plaxico should continue to develop into Coughlin's number one receiver with help on the outside from Toomer and rookie Moss. On top of all this, the defensive unit should be in better shape than it was last year when they were plucking linebackers off the street due to injury. This means more opportunities and time on the field for an already potent offense.

The Giants biggest weakness is probably at backup running back. Both backups, Brandon Jacobs (irregular heartbeat) and Derrick Ward (broken hand) aren't practicing at the moment and neither helps the offense in the passing game should they be called on for full-time duty in the regular season. Tiki is coming off a career high 357 carries and at the age of 31, there's no telling how his body will respond. He makes the Giants tick and his absence from the lineup would drastically reduce the effectiveness of each offensive player and the unit as a whole.
