Ryan Clady Says He Wants To Retire With Broncos

Ryan Clady, the Broncos' designated franchise player in 2013, has not signed his one-year $9.8 million franchise tag offer, and is not working out at team facilities. The Boise State product tells Les and Tom Nalen of ESPN Denver 102.3 FM that the ball is in John Elway's court.

"There's no message in it," Clady said on not signing his franchise tag and rehabbing at Dove Valley. "You would have to ask Elway or someone in the front office what their plans for me are."

John Elway and the Broncos reportedly haven't had contract talks with Clady and his representative since July of last year, when they made him a $50 million offer. Clady can say there is no message behind his pseudo-holdout, but really the message is clear: he wants a long-term deal.

But until either Clady or the Broncos bend on his contract status, the fans remain in limbo, hoping that their star left tackle will indeed get the opportunity to retire in orange and blue.

Rumor Mill: Denver Has Made a Higher Offer to Dumervil than Baltimore

Per Les Shapiro of Denver’s ESPN Station 102.3, The Broncos have made a higher offer to bring back Elvis Dumervil than what is currently on the table from the Baltimore Ravens. This is pretty unfounded at this point, so it comes down to how good of a source Les has. That said, it appears the organization is holding to their word that they’re intent on keeping Doom in the Orange and Blue. We’ll keep you updated as this progresses.

Per @lesshapiro,offer Elvis Dumervil has received from the #Broncos is better than the one from the #Ravens

Are Birk, Saturday Hall of Famers

Matt Birk announced his retirement today meaning that the 2012 season was the last for two of the NFL’s most prominent centers over the last decade and change.
Birk joins Jeff Saturday in hanging up his cleats. The Vikings and Ravens center goes out on top, having helped Baltimore to its second Super Bowl championship. It was his only ring despite having played for 15 years.
In addition to winning the Super Bowl once, Birk finishes his career with six Pro Bowl appearances. Saturday leaves the league after a 14 year career that was primarily spent in Indianapolis. He made six Pro Bowl appearances, though the last one this season (with Green Bay) was earned despite his having been benched toward the end of the season. Saturday adds two appearances on the Associated Press NFL All Pro First Team.
So, where do these two greats fall on the all-time list of NFL centers? Both of them were very good to great players but I’m uncertain whether they belong in the Hall of Fame. Using Pro Bowls a...

Davis, Atwater, Lynch Snubbed by HOF… Again

Once again, deserving Denver Broncos have been snubbed from Pro Football Hall of Fame voting.
It took decades to get Floyd Little in. Years to get Shannon Sharpe in. Will the players below ever get into the HOF?
On Friday, the 17 finalists for the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame class were announced. Not among those finalists were Terrell Davis, John Lynch and Steve Atwater. (Neither was Karl Mecklenburg, but that is understandable.)
@jheath_den He had 2600 yards and 29 TDs in 98 including postseason, while sitting out 8 quarters during the season. AP who?
— Jeremiah Turco (@TFTurco) January 11, 2013

Down the road, cornerback Champ Bailey will easily walk into the Hall of Fame. Quarterback Peyton Manning will go in (likely as a Colt) and safety Brian Dawkins will be a candidate (like Manning, however, he will be remembered as an Eagle).
But there are seven other former Broncos that should also be given more consideration.

Former center Tom Nalen won two Super Bowls as a member...

The list of 25 semifinalist nominees will be announced in late November. That semifinalist list will be further reduced by a mail ballot to 15 modern-era finalists and announced in early January.

The Class of 2013 will be selected from the list of the 15 modern-era finalists plus the two senior nominees (former Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Oilers nose tackle Curley Culp and former Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins linebacker Dave Robinson).

Do The Houston Texans Have Championship Pedigree?

Lately, I’ve been following a lot of NFL analysts and I constantly hear many analysts say since the draft that the Houston Texans will be in the AFC Championship game and others that say the Texans will be in the Super Bowl. The question I ask is why? What do they see in the Texans that makes them believe that the Texans are a perennial Super Bowl contender after one successful season? I am not a cynic by any stretch of the word, because quite frankly I love the hype. I like to believe it all, but if anyone knows me understands I like to stay even kilter and temper my emotions because I like to make sure I’m properly informed when I start to agree with most analysts that follow my team. If I make any argument for my team I want to have some sort of information and stats that back up my theories or beliefs. Now, with that said I noticed that this year the Texans are building depth at positions oppose to drafting players, or going after overpriced free agents to fill gaping holes on t...

Rich Gannon knows well the challenges Manning faces | Yahoo! Sports
Peyton Manning has always been a split-second ahead – of the pass rush, of the opposing coordinator, even of his own receivers. Perhaps never in the history of the NFL has there been a quarterback as in tune with his surroundings as Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts. There was no static in the channel, no delayed reaction, no pause of uncertainty.

Dropping Back In NFL History: Johnny Unitas And His Golden Arm

There may not be a long list of events in NFL history to make note of between the end of January and training camp season in July but each week brings the birthday of another NFL legend to read about and profile. Last week we profiled Eagles’ great Chuck Bednarik. This week is the birthday of a quarterback no one wanted to believe in who became one of the greatest of all time.

It’s time to steer the “Wayback Machine” towards early 1930’s Pittsburgh.

May 7, 1933–Johnny Unitas was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
One of the greatest quarterbacks ever to line up behind center spent years looking for a chance to show what he could do. By the time he was finished, the legends of the game recognized that they had witnessed the career of someone special. Vince Lombardi said, “Unitas is the greatest football player that I have ever seen.” Bears legend Sid Luckman, one of the greatest of all time in his own right said of Unitas, "He was better than me.
For years, legendary quarterback John Elway was the only player representing the Denver Broncos historic franchise in Pro Football’s Hall of Fame. That all changed when offensive lineman Gary Zimmerman, running back Floyd Little and tight end Shannon Sharpewere enshrined during a four-year span.

The Broncos now have four players in the HOF and that number will grow in the coming years. Running back Terrell Davis, safety Steve Atwater and linebacker Randy Gradishar are expected to eventually get the nod, preferably sooner rather than later.
Joining Davis, Atwater and Gradishar as eligible (and deserving) HOF candidates over the next two years will be receiver Rod Smith, center Tom Nalen, kicker Jason Elam and safety John Lynch. There are four players representing the Broncos in Canton,...

Since the Broncos traded receiver Brandon Lloyd to the St. Louis Rams, Denver has turned to the ground game and gone 4-1 while the previously winless Rams have gone 2-3, getting 322 yards and three scores out of Lloyd in the process.
