Draft needs fro Cowboys, Redskins, Giants

Dallas Cowboys Positions of need RB, WR, CB
Needs Analysis: The offseason departure of Julius Jones left a void in the Cowboys' backfield behind starter Marion Barber III. With veteran WR Terry Glenn nearing the end of the line, the Cowboys could use a third wideout to supplement starters Terrell Owens and Patrick Crayton. CB Jacques Reeves has shown promise as a nickel corner, but the team still could use some depth at the position.

Round 1, Pick 22 (22) (From Browns)
Round 1, Pick 28 (28)
Round 2, Pick 30 (61)
Round 3, Pick 29 (92)
Round 4, Pick 27 (126)
Round 5, Pick 28 (163)
Round 6, Pick 1 (167) (From Dolphins)
Round 7, Pick 28 (235)
Washington Redskins Positions of need WR, DL, LB, S
Needs Analysis: Both Redskins' starting receivers are less than 6-feet tall, so finding a bigger target for young quarterback Jason Campbell should be a main priority. The team also has needs on defense at DE, LB and S. Finding a second pass-rusher to help Andre Carter is vital, and adding an outside linebacker to fill in for the injured Rocky McIntosh also is crucial. McIntosh suffered a devastating knee injury last season and might not be back for the start of the season. Sean Taylor's tragic death left a void the team has yet to fill at safety.

Round 1, Pick 21 (21)
Round 2, Pick 20 (51)
Round 3, Pick 21 (84)
Round 3, Pick 33 (96) (Compensatory selection)
Round 5, Pick 19 (154)
Round 6, Pick 20 (186)
Round 7, Pick 21 (228)
Round 7, Pick 35 (242) (Compensatory selection)
Round 7, Pick 42 (249) (Compensatory selection)

New York Giants
Positions of need WR, OL, S, LB
Needs Analysis: Linebacker is perhaps the greatest area of need for the Giants after they lost both of their starting outside linebackers to free agency, and the defection of S Gibril Wilson to the Raiders created a hole at the safety position, as well. With starting WRs Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer in their 30s and having been plagued by injuries in recent seasons, the Giants need to start developing a future wideout. The starters on the offensive line are solid and established, but the team could use some depth here, as well.

Round 1, Pick 31 (31)
Round 2, Pick 32 (63)
Round 3, Pick 32 (95)
Round 4, Pick 31 (130)
Round 5, Pick 30 (165)
Round 6, Pick 28 (194) (From Packers)
Round 6, Pick 32 (198)
Round 6, Pick 33 (199) (Compensatory selection)

Clarence "I'm Right More Than I Am Wrong" Hill Is At It Again

KFFL has these weird quick notes that state our one and only super-journalist Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram reports the Dallas Cowboys are looking to sign four star players to long-term deals. Here is what the weird quick notes say, without links:

Clarence E. Hill Jr., of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports the Dallas Cowboys are looking to sign DL Chris Canty to a long-term deal. Cowboys | Team looking to sign Barber long-term
Tue, 11 Mar 2008 18:14:50 -0700

Clarence E. Hill Jr., of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports the Dallas Cowboys are looking to sign restricted free-agent RB Marion Barber III to a long-term deal.

Well, how much credibility does any of this have? Hill is the same journalist who reported to us all that Marion Barber was only getting a 1st round pick tender, which scared the living crap out of most of us.

This time, I think the Super Journalist might be on to something. If Jerry Jones signs long-term deals for these four guys, he might be able to free up some more cap room. I am not sure because the whole cap crap is confusing and tedious. But if Jerry Jones can free up more cap room, it is another piece of evidence that he will be moving up in the draft, almost certainly giving away the two first-round picks, to draft Darren McFadden.

You know, I bet Jerry Jones traded that pick to Cleveland last year with the plan that if he had two first-round picks, he has more trading power to get McFadden. I wouldn't doubt JJ told McFadden last year he would be a Cowboy at almost any cost.

But where is our cornerback for the future? Who will be our wide receiver for the future (seriously guys, cut the crap on this Stanback stuff, because it's just pie in the sky right now)? Who will be our safety for the future?

The Cowboys may have been 13-3 last year, but that doesn't mean there weren't flaws that could be fixed with those two first-round picks. I am losing sleep over this damn stuff!

Trap Game Becomes Yap Game For Dallas Cowboys

Detroit seems like the classic trap game for the high-flying Dallas Cowboys. Coming off an emotional win over the Green Bay Packers, having played - and won - three huge games in just twelve days, sitting fat and happy in the catbird's seat, one might expect a letdown from the Boys come Sunday.

Cowboys out to get big mouthed Kitna

Looks like it could be a long Sunday for Jon Kitna at QB, wonder if he'll make it the whole game. Kitna's big mouth could result in some Cowboys taking some cheap hits.

Terrance Newman of the Cowboys had this to say
"Basically, what it boils down to is you've got to watch what you say ... Your mouth can't write checks that your ass can't cash. That's what it comes down to. Everybody's going to see those quotes.... He better just hope I don't blitz off the edge because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand dollars) however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet, definitely.""

SI's Peter King Ranks His Top 500 NFL Players

Now I know that the only reason a sports writer makes a list is to cause discussion and debate, but even the top 25 on his list makes me want take my Sports Illustrated and use it to fill my Cat's litter box. Here is my take on who Mr. King has overrated and underrated in his top 100 of the top 500 players on his list of NFL stars.
I think I'll start at # 1 just for the sake or argument. Tom Brady would be my top player followed by Peyton Manning, but I can see both sides to this tired old debate. Manning means more to his team and Brady has accomplished more success, case closed.
Julius Peppers at # 4? Is Shawn Merriman being discriminated on due to his steroid suspension here? Peppers disappears too many times in games for me and had a down year last year. Merriman must be game planned around, and his combination of speed, agility, and non-stop motor makes him a top 5 player in my eyes and definitely gets a nod in my top 10.
Marc Bulger #18? I see his reasoning of only 8 INT's in 588 Attempts, but doesn't winning games for your team mean anything in a league where you only play a 16 game schedule?
Matt Hasselbeck #20? Quarterbacks are getting the attention on his list more so than wide receivers. Can you even believe the first wide out on this list Steve Smith at # 22?
The list goes okay for me until I see that Tony Gonzalez is all the way down at #43. It must be due to his age. Right? He keeps making plays even though the Chiefs have no receivers to help him get open, and to have Vince Young (#41) ahead of him at his stage in his career is a joke to me.
Then comes #45 where CB Nnamdi Asomugha is one spot ahead of Chargers LT Marcus McNeill. McNeill was a Pro Bowl Rookie on the offensive line. Any idea how much respect he must have earned to gain those votes in his first season from league veterans at the most valuable position on the O-line? I think most NFL GM's would take him over a cornerback.
Terrance Newman at #74 is way ahead of Lions WR Roy Williams at #90. King's reasoning is that Newman has no stats because no one throws at him. Yet, every time I watch the Cowboys secondary they're chasing opposing pass catchers down the sidelines and into the end zones on deep scores. Williams is a playmaker on a team that doesn't know how to get him the ball enough. Maybe super rookie Calvin Johnson will help him, and Johnson by the way is #63 already ahead of teammate Williams and Steelers leader Hines Ward (#94). I guess age is really holding alot of weight on his list?
