Brothers Palmer look to make history in Cincy

They're the same height and almost the same weight. They have many of the same facial features. They use some of the same expressions. They play the same position.
And, for the first time, Carson and Jordan Palmer play on the same NFL team.
Carson stood on the sideline in shorts and watched his younger brother run plays during a weekend rookie camp at Paul Brown Stadium, a moment that was special for both of them. Jordan, who is 23, got to run some of the plays that his 28-year-old brother has mastered.
"It's great," Carson said, using one of their common expressions. "It's been so much fun. He's been living in our basement. We never had the chance to be on the same team because of our age difference. It's fun to be on the same team."
It goes deeper, of course.
When the Bengals signed Jordan on Jan. 30, giving him a chance to compete for the No. 3 quarterback job, two brothers who are closer than their age got a chance to do something they always wanted to do.
CLICK!!!!!!!!!
"It's exciting to have not only your best friend but your brother [here]," Carson said.

It's also a little eerie.

Thank God I Charged My Phone

I brought my charger with me because I knew the phone would be blowing up. It has been buzzing non stop. I have gotten 90 text messages and I don't know how many calls. The best call was from Marvin Lewis of course, but I was really excited to get calls from Carson Palmer and John Thornton. They are the two leaders of the team and for them to call means an awful lot to me. I will be flying into Cincinnati tomorrow morning. I didn't realize it was so far away from Florida.

Matt Leinart called and left an awesome message. We were roommates when I first came to USC. It was great hearing his voice. Lofa (Tatupu) called just before the pick. I couldn't believe it - I told him 'Lofa I'm waiting for a team to call.' It was great talking to him though. He just wanted to wish me well. Reggie Bush sent a text so did Thomas Williams and Terrell Thomas. It's been great hearing from all my friends and teammates.

I'm a Cincinnati Bengal!

This is an absolutely surreal experience. I am numb right now. I'm not sure what to do - jump up and down or cry - I'm just so excited about being a Cincinnati Bengal. Coach Marvin Lewis made the call. When my phone rang it was an unknown number and I had some friends calling before that so I wasn't sure if I should answer it. I was thrilled to get the call. My agent called after that and told me Carson Palmer was jumping up and down. I will be too - I'm a Cincinnati Bengal!

Chad Says He Wont Report To Anything

Chad finally made it clear that he no longer wants to wear a Bengals uniform, this comes after he heard QB Carson Palmer tell reporters that Johnson would be at the teams mini camps. Johnson said he wants a trade to made by the draft or soon thereafter. "I want to make this very clear," Johnson told ESPN.com. "I don't know where he got that. I made no assertion to Carson that I would do that. Nothing has changed from what I've been saying for three months that I don't want to play for the Bengals."

Bengals QB Carson Palmer Trash Talks The Browns - GridironFans.com

The Browns should need no added motivation to beat the Bengals, who basically knocked them out of the playoffs last season. But if they want some, here it is. It seems that news of the Browns' five prime-time national TV appearances next season already isn't sitting well with Bengals QB Carson Palmer. In case you haven't read it elsewhere, here's what Palmer, normally a classy professional, had to say Wednesday during a media availability in Cincinnati: "I was as shocked as anybody to see that because they're still a ways away from being a …" Apparently sensing he had said too much, Palmer finished that sentence after a pause by adding, "They weren't even in the playoffs." True enough, the Browns were a game away from the postseason, finishing 10-6. They fell short on the final day of the regular season when Tennessee beat Indianapolis. "I think it's a lot of hype early," Palmer reportedly huffed. "Just like every year, there's hype around one or two teams early." And then there was this prediction from Palmer on the hype surrounding the Browns: "It'll fizzle out once they start playing games."

A League in need of nicknames: the AFC North

Baltimore Ravens
Ed Reed → Granite Reed. "Granite" implies strength and solidity, but what I like most about it, as it relates to Ed Reed, is that it also has an air of permanence. It's always going to be there. When you need a tackle, Granite will be there. When you need a pass broken up, Granite will be there. When you need a big play for a touchdown, Granite will be there. Granite has no holes or weaknesses.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Casey Hampton → Burger Hampton. Every other star Steeler has a nickname of some kind of gimmick. "Big" Ben Roethlisberger (or, as I prefer, Large Benjamin), "Fast" Willie Parker, Hines Ward has his ever-present smile, and Troy Polamalu has his hair. But Casey Hampton's at least as valuable as any of them, and he's without any kind of nickname. It's not fair.
Cleveland Browns
Kellen Winslow → Paddles Winslow. The Browns are kind of a tough one, as Derek Anderson already has a fantastic nickname that commentators can't use, no one's sure if it's even worth giving Brady Quinn a nickname (though, if it was, I'd suggest "La Fogata" Quinn), and I don't know if Kellen Winslow is ever going to get away from the "Soldier" comments.
And believe me, I'll be using it as a source of cheap jokes for years and years to come. But I think someone on the current Browns roster needs a nickname to signify that resurrection of the Browns, and Winslow's gotta be the guy. No one knows who their QB of the future will be, and Winslow was there, giving the team a little spark and a little sizzle before anyone else.
Cincinnati Bengals
Carson Palmer → Cornhole Palmer. I love the thought of two 80-year-old guys on their porch, years from now, reminiscing about the Bengals glory days, "Ol' Cornhole Palmer," and his magical arm.
Now, I realize that this can't happen, as "cornhole," has a rather unsavory meaning, particularly when used as a verb and in a nonconsensual way. That's not how Carson Palmer means it, though, nor is it the meaning held by many well-intentioned, beanbag-tossing midwesterners. When you host the "Carson Palmer Cornhole Classic," though I think you've got to be ready for whatever people want to do with it.
And if you're bold enough to take the step and use it, it could refer to Carson Palmer's ability to, um, put the defense in a compromising position.

*yeah that last one is not gonna go over so well, specially with Palmer"

Chad Johnson falls short in the clutch?

interesting point of view from solomon wilcots with regards to ocho cinco. you can catch it in the main menu on nfl.com. apparently, chad has boqu dropped passes on his stat page, as well as this interesting one...during the final 6 games of the bengals '06 campaign, and more importantly, during the final 3 of those games (when cinci only needed to win one to get in to the playoffs), chad reached the end zone exactly ZERO times. and, he followed that with only 3 scores in the first 10 games of the '07 season. that's 3 TDs in a 16 game span...remember kids, it's not like he didn't have a pro-bowl caliber QB tossing it up, so spare me how super 5 could improve his #s. now, the interview then goes on to say that while it may be true that chad has something like an 8 TD per season avg, and blah blah blah, his stats don't seem to translate into wins when the game is on the line.
some may argue that the loses owe more to cinci's shitty defense, but i pose the question...is ocho really worth all the hype? and how bad do we want him in philly now?

Palmer Avoids Questions about Bengals WR's

With Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh both threatening to miss the Bengals' voluntary workouts, the person who is most affected -- Carson Palmer -- is trying to stay away from the subject.Houshmandzadeh is in the final year of his contract and wants a long term deal.

Palmer mostly mum regarding disgruntled WRs

**EDIT** thanks to all who answered it is appreciated, that is what makes a good thread ;) !!

an actual players perspective on the NON stop flapping of the jaws of Chad Johnson & i agree with the guy......where does it end. if this is the way he's treating his team now, can you imagine if he comes to one of the teams he's is supposedly rumored to be going to? no more diva clean up in philly please. i know you or most of you are all hungry for a WR/myself is surely included in that, but i'd much rather have a LEVEL headed player to compliment our already existing receivers then go through another distracted season over a diva ....... no time for it-READ the article ;) !!

peace out,
ck0712

EDIT: here for a second, our beloved & elite donovan ASKED FOR PLAYMAKERS yes, i'm aware of that, BUT he did not ask for playmakers that are gonna make a 3 ring circus outta the team as soon as things don't go there way!!!! ...Lets get #5 weapons, not TALKERS.......;)

seems i've started a new phase hopefully here in the yard & that's getting back to the TEAM !!
have a great easter & don't forget to bite the bunny ears off the bunnies ;)!!

Ocho wants to stinko the Cowboys

It always makes me laugh when a player under contract to a team talks about playing for another team. It is no secret that Chad Johnson is unhappy in Cincinnati. The Bengals have been adamant that they won't trade Johnson. However, don't let that stop Ocho from playing fantasy football.

Enough "Bengal" To Go Around

TJ Houshmandzadeh is now following in the footsteps of counterpart Chad Johnson as the two star wide receivers for the Cincinnati Bengals decide not to show up to optional conditioning program starting Monday. This is a sign of a holdout. Both Johnson and Houshmandzadeh feel they are underpaid and this could result in an ongoing issue entering this summer's training camp. They have stated and re-stated they have no interest in trading either receiver and will have to back it up by paying both now.
