Hinske Hits the Market Again

For the third time in as many off-seasons, Eric Hinske will be able to select his next team on the free agent market. The 2002 Rookie of the Year is far removed from any shred of stardom and continues to etch out the career arch of a role player.
Hinske’s BABIP fluctuated heavily between 2006 [...]

Jack Curry reported via Twitter, that the Yankees have added Eric Hinske to the World Series roster and drop Freddy Guzman. He also said that they were considering adding Brian Bruney and going with 12 pitchers.I thought Freddy Guzman's speed would be more valuable than it proved to be. Running when he had the chance would have helped his cause. Adding Hinske's bat, especially with games coming up under NL rules gives the Yankees some pop off the bench, which they haven't had all ...

No word yet on who will get the last spot on the team, but I'd have to think it'll go to Eric Hinske. Freddy Guzman was barely used in the ALCS, and now with the pitcher hitting in at least two games, a good pinch-hitter is more valuable than a pinch-runner.
Or maybe Joe throws a curve and drops F...

This from Chad Jennings over at the Lohud:Joe Girardi just announced that Freddy Guzman has been added to the roster in place of Eric Hinske. A.J. Burnett is starting Game 2. Andy Pettitte in Game 3. Game 4 is TBA.He also has this:Chad Gaudin threw 50 pitches on Tuesday and said he’s been told to be ready to pitch on Friday. Not as a starter, but as a guy who could give the Yankees innings in the case of a rain delay or some other circumstance that limits the starter. I suppose he could start...

Yankees - Acquired Hinske

New York Yankees - Acquired OF Eric Hinske from the Pittsburgh Pirates for OF Eric Fryer and P Casey Erickson

Hinske wanted more playing time, so the Pirates are helping him out by trading him to a team that will probably play him even less. But at least he has a chance now to play well into October and score some jewelry. Hinske's never going to be a regular again, simply because he hasn't been able to even fake third base very well since the shoulder problems.

Neither prospect was...

Yankees Acquire Eric Hinske From Pirates

The Yankees jumped into the trade market today picking up Eric Hinske from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Casey Erickson and Eric Fryer, 2 minor leaguers. At first, I was like, "huh?" Then I remembered that Xavier Nady was done for the year and then it clicked. I'm a fan of the deal. Hinske isn't exactly highly paid so it's not like the Yanks are adding much payroll. Hinske's salary is $1.5 million and the Yankees did receive some cash from the Buccos as part ...

Hinkse To Yanks: Bye Bye, Cervelli? Sit Down Swish?

Reports are surfacing that the Pirates' Eric Hinske has been traded to the Yankees for two minor leaguers. Hinske has split time this season in right field, and at first base and third base. The move seems to indicate that the Yankees are trying to solidify their bench. He would join Ramiro Pena and Cody Ransom as Yankee reserves. Also, with Xavier Nady unlikely to return this season, he could contribute in the outfield as well. If both Pena and Ransom are kept on the roster, however, the ...
