Five Yankee players, including World Series MVP Hideki Matsui have elected for free agency today, as part of Article XX B (2) of the Basic Agreement. The other Yankee players include Johnny Damon, Eric Hinske, Jose Molina, and Xavier Nady as part of 31 total players that have filed since the process began. In the wake of the euphoria over the Yankees World Series victory, the one question that seems to be on everybody's mind is this: Damon or Matsui? Both of them contributed hugely to both the Yankees regular and postseason success. Both also came up huge in the World Series. Jack Curry reported via Twitter, that the Yankees have added Eric Hinske to the World Series roster and drop Freddy Guzman. He also said that they were considering adding Brian Bruney and going with 12 pitchers.I thought Freddy Guzman's speed would be more valuable than it proved to be. Running when he had the chance would have helped his cause. The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies have until 10 a.m. Eastern tomorrow to set their rosters for the World Series and the rumor is that both could make some slight alterations. Reports are surfacing that the Pirates' Eric Hinske has been traded to the Yankees for two minor leaguers.
