Browns' First-Round Pick Alex Mack Signs

by Bruce CiskieFiled under: Browns, AFC NorthOne day after showing up in Cleveland, anticipating a deal, first-round pick Alex Mack finally has one. The center out of California has been penciled in as the Browns' starter, so he knew from the start of minicamp that his presence at training camp from the start would be very important. With the contract done, Mack becomes just the third first-round pick to put pen to paper on a contract, joining top-five quarterbacks Matthew Stafford (Detroi...

Madden 2010: Alex Mack is Strong

The image above is a Madden 2010 rendition of the newly drafted center Alex Mack. The great folks at EA Sports went ahead and released the ratings of the entire first round, including a few specific area ratings to compare against a few peers.
If EA is right, Mack’s addition should add some much-needed run blocking [...]

Todd McShay Needs Some Sleep, I Think

It was a long weekend for Todd McShay with the NFL draft and all, but I think maybe he should have taken a bit longer nap before critiquing draft performance. He had this to say about the Browns.
While teams don’t usually like to take centers so early in the first round it’s unlikely Alex Mack [...]

The Steelers couldn’t take Alex Mack (Cleveland), and they didn’t go corner. Instead, they took the shot at #32 to address the defensive line as they selected Evander “Ziggy” Hood from Missouri.

It took awhile, but the Browns finally took a player, as they selected the Cal center Alex Mack with the 21st overall pick. The pick came after the Browns traded with the Jets (5th pick), Tampa Bay (17th pick), and Philly (19th pick) before they finally took Mack.

Browns Finally Pick!

The Browns have traded down three times, with NY Jets for the 5th pick, the Bucs for the 17th pick and Philly for the 20th. They finally selected C Alex Mack. Mack is the best center prospect and in my opinion the best o-line prospect in the draft. Not a flashy pick but a great pick nonetheless. Grade: B

Analysis of Eagle's Draft According to WalterFootball.com

I always find what Walter Football
has to say about the Eagles draft interesting. He usually throws some
curve balls from what you’re used to seeing at other mock drafts.
Let’s see who he has the Eagles taking with their first 5 picks:

21 - Robert Ayers - (DE) - Tennessee
28 - Alex Mack - (C) - California
53 - Duke Robinson - (OG) - Oklahoma
85 - Javon Ringer - (RB) - Michigan State
117 - Chase Coffman - (TE) - Missouri

It looks like he has a pretty good grasp on the Eagles needs:
offensive line, running back, and tight end. His curveball: the Eagles
taking Robert Ayers with the 21st pick. Here’s my reaction to his
picks.

I go into a very in-depth look at his picks so read the FULL STORY for my reaction.

Cal facing long odds in its quest to beat USC in L.A.

Here's a football fact that can't have Cal fans feeling too good approaching Saturday's showdown against USC in Los Angeles: The Bears under coach Jeff Tedford are oh-for-L.A.

Since coming to Berkeley in 2002, Tedford has turned Cal into a football powerhouse. The Bears are 56-28 and have been to five straight bowl games under Tedford. But they've lost three straight games to UCLA at the Rose Bowl and three straight games to USC at the Memorial Coliseum.
