For the last 10 years the question of "If" has surrounded the Miami Dolphins offense. While this year, that has not changed, what has changed is that it is now just as pertinent to the Miami Dolphins defense. Forget about the losses of Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor, there are more questions surrounding the direction [...]

New Jags receivers hope to restore career vitality

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - If Troy Williamson and Jerry Porter look a little faster this season, it's only because each of them will be carrying a lot less weight.

We're talking figuratively here, but there might not be two players in the NFL feeling lighter right now than these two Jacksonville Jaguars wide receivers. For the moment anyway, the controversy that has defined the careers of Porter and Williamson is gone.

"I think we both feel like we're going to get a chance to do more with our careers than we've done in the past,'' Porter said.
That's precisely what the Jaguars, whom many thought were only a pass-rusher and wide receiver or two away from joining the Colts and Patriots in the AFC's elite, were banking on when they traded a sixth-round pick to Minnesota for Williamson and signed Porter as a free agent. The Jaguars addressed the pass rush by using their top two draft picks on defensive ends Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves.

They're banking that a fresh start is all Porter and Williamson need to revive careers that once were so promising. A revival would give quarterback David Garrard far more options than he had a year ago. That might not be a bad bet because both are considered upper-echelon receivers when it comes to pure talent. Plenty of people around the league will tell you Porter and Williamson were far from entirely responsible for their well-known clashes with previous coaches. CLICK the link for more....

TOP Ten feuds in NFL history has some real classic ones 10. Joey Porter vs. Cincinnati -Joey Porter likes to talk, and eventually found his match -- with help from Chad Johnson -- in the Bengals 9. Bill Bergey vs. Conrad Dobler- Rivals in the NFC East, Cardinals lineman Conrad Dobler and Eagles linebacker Bill Bergey had a number of memorable clashes in the 1970s. 8.Paul Brown vs. Cleveland Browns- Upon being fired by Browns owner Art Modell, Cleveland's long-time coach left to coach for the team's new rivals, the Bengals. 7.Steve Young vs. Joe Montana- Two ultra-competitive, future Hall-of-Fame quarterbacks on the same roster made for uneasy situation in San Francisco. 6.Donovan McNabb vs. Terrell Owens- Sure, together they helped lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl in 24 years, but their relationship wasn't always rosy. 5.Jerry Glanville vs. AFC Central- As head coach of the Oilers, Jerry Glanville left tickets for Elvis, but didn't make many friends among his AFC Central opponents. 4.George Allen vs. Dallas Cowboys- Redskins head coach George Allen took pride in beating the team dubbed "America's Team," thus creating one of the NFL's best rivalries. 3.Buddy Ryan vs. Mike Ditka- Buddy Ryan became the first coordinator to be carried off the field at the Super Bowl, then he left to coach the Eagles. 2.AFL vs. NFL- The American Football League opened play in 1960 and eventually forced a merger, resulting in the creation of the Super Bowl. 1.Raiders vs. The World- The Oakland, then Los Angeles, and back to Oakland Raiders have always fancied itself as a rebelious team that goes against convention.

Joey Porter tears Patriots to shreds on ESPN

Finally, a breath of fresh air, instead of the usual patriot butt kissing. Joey Porter was on ESPN and he spoke up about the patriots cheating, he says they should have an * next to their Super Bowls. It is nice to hear somebody tell the truth instead of being politically correct. Joey is obviously bitter about the afc championship losses against them. Donovan, call them out. The patriots are cheaters and should be recognized as such. Read the link for Joey's quotes

Pittsburgh Steelers - The 5 Year Review...

The Pittsburgh Steelers are legendary for building their team through the NFL Draft. Year after year, after year, after year the Steelers let what seems to be a key contributor, a star player leave the Steelers Organization. Whether it be through Free Agency or Waivers, the Steelers always have a guy to step into the role and succeed for a player who has left the organization.

In 2006 and most recently, Joey Porter was waived. A cap casualty. A very controversial release with the some of the coaches, the players and the fans. The heart and soul of the defense...gone! A major role in capturing "The One For The Thumb!" Released outright!! Enter - James Harrison - Pro-Bowl Season!! This is a regular thing with the Steelers, but my question arises...

How are the Steelers building for the future? How have they done in the last 5 Drafts to ensure when Harrison is ready to walk, Joe Blow can step in...

From 2003 to 2007, the Steelers have had a total of 38 picks ('03-5, '04-8, '05-8, '06-9, '07-8.) Of those 38 picks, 21% of those players (8) are starters on the team today. 29% are still on the roster as a back-up or special teams player. 16% have found a spot on another team. 34% are currently out of the league. ONLY 50% of the Players the Steelers drafted are currently on their roster...50%...

Joey Porter Called Cam Cameron a Gutless Coward, Cameron Backed Down

"Joey was great but it was unbelievable," said another player. "But the best was at the end of it, after getting ripped into, cursed at and questioned all Cam said was, 'OK, glad we got that out, on to Cincinnati.' It was ridiculous. He never defended himself and it went on for a while."

"The locker room applauded Porter for telling it like it is but shook their heads that Cameron just let it happen. "

Satisfaction guaranteed (or your patience refunded)

Tight end Randy McMichael laughs in the face of reality as he recently announced his St. Louis Rams will get their first win of the season this Sunday, when they host the Cleveland Browns. McMichael is so sure of this that he has gone out on the proverbial limb and guaranteed a victory for the Rams, who are now 0-7 and off to their worst start in franchise history.

"We have nothing else to say - we are going to win the football game," he said. `We will win Sunday.''

Whatever happened to the days when issuing a guarantee meant something? Turn on any TV station at 3:00 in the morning and you'll be absolutely inundated with guarantees of satisfaction for products that revolutionize this, or have reinvented that. Shut up already. It's garbage, and so is a verbal guarantee of something that has absolutely no evidence of value. The Rams, as a product, have this to offer:

* 0 confidence in themselves (sans 1 or 2 players)
* 0 wins
* 0 rushing touchdowns to date
* 0 touchdowns period over the last 8 quarters
* Dead last rank in points per game
* The NFL lead in giveaways at 23
(including 11 in the last 2 games)
* Internal strife in the form of player outbursts and sideline fiascos
* An injury-plagued offensive line
(now minus a starter due to being fired)
* Hobbled key-position starters
("Hammys, Ankles and Groins - oh my")
* Georgie Frontiere and John Shaw

Take all that, package it up and sell it to anyone with a guarantee of satisfaction attached and see what you get. Laughter? A call to the Better Business Bureau demanding immediate fraud investigation? Likely; and rightfully so.

Don't get me wrong here, I love the Rams and would like nothing else than to see them get off "the shnide", but I'm compelled to be a realist here. I see nothing in the form of substance that would give me cause to believe that this recent proclamation by Randy McMichael is nothing more than an attempt to rally his teammates -- similar to Isaac Bruce's "guaranteed win" over Dallas earlier in the season.

Bruce's guarantee carried about as much weight as Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter's did earlier in the year.

At 0-3, the Dolphins were fortunate enough to have their self-appointed spokesman, Joey Porter, guarantee a win against Oakland prior to their week 4 meeting. Said Porter of [Daunte] Culpepper, who played the second half of Oakland's defeat of Cleveland the previous Sunday, "Of course, he's going to have some business he wants to take care of and be the difference maker when they try to win this game, but it's not going to happen. We're forced into this situation. Our backs are against the wall. It's a must win for us. Write it how you want to write it: we will win on Sunday.''

I wrote it like this: "Dolphins lose 35-17". I hope that was grammatically correct.

More importantly though, is the fact that the Rams have been down this road before, only now they're in bizarro world. In 1999, Browns receiver Kevin Johnson publicly guaranteed the Browns would beat the Rams in week 7 of that season.

The Browns were 0-6 at that point, but were sure they were better than their record indicated. The Browns got waxed 34-3 by a far superior Rams team, and Kevin Johnson's "guarantee" was anything but realized. I have a sneaky suspicion that the outcome to McMichael's proclamation will be the same this Sunday; only the Rams will be on the receiving end.

The Browns put up 41 on the Dolphins last week, which is an easy task, but the difference between the Dolphins and the Rams is that the Dolphins can actually score some points. The Rams defense is better, only slightly, but St Louis simply cannot match the offensive output of ANY team at this point. While the Browns are currently ranked 7th in the NFL in offense, the only thing that could offer even the slightest glimmer of hope is that they're ranked dead last on defense.

If the Rams ever had a chance to fulfill a prophecy, it's now. Steven Jackson is likely to return this week and faces a Browns defense that ranks 30th against the run. St Louis will need to pound the ball until Jackson's legs fall off and make protecting the ball an absolute priority. Given the recent plight of Rams' quarterbacks as of late, I'd venture to guess that this will be the recipe for this week's gameplan. So far this year, Marc Bulger and Gus Frerotte have combined for 5 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, 4 lost fumbles and 24 sacks.

I can foresee one thing, and you can rest assured it will come to fruition. The Rams will play in a football game this week.

I guarantee it.
